1 わたしが少しばかり愚かなことを言うのを、どうか、忍んでほしい。もちろん忍んでくれるのだ。 Would to God ye could bear with me a little in my folly: and indeed bear with me.
2 わたしは神の熱情をもって、あなたがたを熱愛している。あなたがたを、きよいおとめとして、ただひとりの男子キリストにささげるために、婚約させたのである。 For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.
3 ただ恐れるのは、エバがへびの悪巧みで誘惑されたように、あなたがたの思いが汚されて、キリストに対する純情と貞操とを失いはしないかということである。 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
4 というのは、もしある人がきて、わたしたちが宣べ伝えもしなかったような異なるイエスを宣べ伝え、あるいは、あなたがたが受けたことのない違った霊を受け、あるいは、受けいれたことのない違った福音を聞く場合に、あなたがたはよくもそれを忍んでいる。 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.
5 事実、わたしは、あの大使徒たちにいささかも劣ってはいないと思う。 For I suppose I was not a whit behind the very chiefest apostles.
6 たとい弁舌はつたなくても、知識はそうでない。わたしは、事ごとに、いろいろの場合に、あなたがたに対してそれを明らかにした。 But though I be rude in speech, yet not in knowledge; but we have been throughly made manifest among you in all things.
7 それとも、あなたがたを高めるために自分を低くして、神の福音を価なしにあなたがたに宣べ伝えたことが、罪になるのだろうか。 Have I committed an offence in abasing myself that ye might be exalted, because I have preached to you the gospel of God freely?
8 わたしは他の諸教会をかすめたと言われながら得た金で、あなたがたに奉仕し、 I robbed other churches, taking wages of them, to do you service.
9 あなたがたの所にいて貧乏をした時にも、だれにも負担をかけたことはなかった。わたしの欠乏は、マケドニヤからきた兄弟たちが、補ってくれた。こうして、わたしはすべての事につき、あなたがたに重荷を負わせまいと努めてきたし、今後も努めよう。 And when I was present with you, and wanted, I was chargeable to no man: for that which was lacking to me the brethren which came from Macedonia supplied: and in all things I have kept myself from being burdensome unto you, and so will I keep myself.
10 わたしの内にあるキリストの真実にかけて言う、この誇がアカヤ地方で封じられるようなことは、決してない。 As the truth of Christ is in me, no man shall stop me of this boasting in the regions of Achaia.
11 なぜであるか。わたしがあなたがたを愛していないからか。それは、神がご存じである。 Wherefore? because I love you not? God knoweth.
12 しかし、わたしは、現在していることを今後もしていこう。それは、わたしたちと同じように誇りうる立ち場を得ようと機会をねらっている者どもから、その機会を断ち切ってしまうためである。 But what I do, that I will do, that I may cut off occasion from them which desire occasion; that wherein they glory, they may be found even as we.
13 こういう人々はにせ使徒、人をだます働き人であって、キリストの使徒に擬装しているにすぎないからである。 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.
14 しかし、驚くには及ばない。サタンも光の天使に擬装するのだから。 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
15 だから、たといサタンの手下どもが、義の奉仕者のように擬装したとしても、不思議ではない。彼らの最期は、そのしわざに合ったものとなろう。 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.
16 繰り返して言うが、だれも、わたしを愚か者と思わないでほしい。もしそう思うなら、愚か者あつかいにされてもよいから、わたしにも、少し誇らせてほしい。 I say again, Let no man think me a fool; if otherwise, yet as a fool receive me, that I may boast myself a little.
17 いま言うことは、主によって言うのではなく、愚か者のように、自分の誇とするところを信じきって言うのである。 That which I speak, I speak it not after the Lord, but as it were foolishly, in this confidence of boasting.
18 多くの人が肉によって誇っているから、わたしも誇ろう。 Seeing that many glory after the flesh, I will glory also.
19 あなたがたは賢い人たちなのだから、喜んで愚か者を忍んでくれるだろう。 For ye suffer fools gladly, seeing ye yourselves are wise.
20 実際、あなたがたは奴隷にされても、食い倒されても、略奪されても、いばられても、顔をたたかれても、それを忍んでいる。 For ye suffer, if a man bring you into bondage, if a man devour you, if a man take of you, if a man exalt himself, if a man smite you on the face.
21 言うのも恥ずかしいことだが、わたしたちは弱すぎたのだ。もしある人があえて誇るなら、わたしは愚か者になって言うが、わたしもあえて誇ろう。 I speak as concerning reproach, as though we had been weak. Howbeit whereinsoever any is bold, (I speak foolishly,) I am bold also.
22 彼らはヘブル人なのか。わたしもそうである。彼らはイスラエル人なのか。わたしもそうである。彼らはアブラハムの子孫なのか。わたしもそうである。 Are they Hebrews? so am I. Are they Israelites? so am I. Are they the seed of Abraham? so am I.
23 彼らはキリストの僕なのか。わたしは気が狂ったようになって言う、わたしは彼ら以上にそうである。苦労したことはもっと多く、投獄されたことももっと多く、むち打たれたことは、はるかにおびただしく、死に面したこともしばしばあった。 Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am more; in labours more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft.
24 ユダヤ人から四十に一つ足りないむちを受けたことが五度、 Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one.
25 ローマ人にむちで打たれたことが三度、石で打たれたことが一度、難船したことが三度、そして、一昼夜、海の上を漂ったこともある。 Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep;
26 幾たびも旅をし、川の難、盗賊の難、同国民の難、異邦人の難、都会の難、荒野の難、海上の難、にせ兄弟の難に会い、 In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren;
27 労し苦しみ、たびたび眠られぬ夜を過ごし、飢えかわき、しばしば食物がなく、寒さに凍え、裸でいたこともあった。 In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness.
28 なおいろいろの事があった外に、日々わたしに迫って来る諸教会の心配ごとがある。 Beside those things that are without, that which cometh upon me daily, the care of all the churches.
29 だれかが弱っているのに、わたしも弱らないでおれようか。だれかが罪を犯しているのに、わたしの心が燃えないでおれようか。 Who is weak, and I am not weak? who is offended, and I burn not?
30 もし誇らねばならないのなら、わたしは自分の弱さを誇ろう。 If I must needs glory, I will glory of the things which concern mine infirmities.
31 永遠にほむべき、主イエス・キリストの父なる神は、わたしが偽りを言っていないことを、ご存じである。 The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which is blessed for evermore, knoweth that I lie not.
32 ダマスコでアレタ王の代官が、わたしを捕えるためにダマスコ人の町を監視したことがあったが、 In Damascus the governor under Aretas the king kept the city of the Damascenes with a garrison, desirous to apprehend me:
33 その時わたしは窓から町の城壁づたいに、かごでつり降ろされて、彼の手からのがれた。 And through a window in a basket was I let down by the wall, and escaped his hands.
