1 人々からでもなく、人によってでもなく、イエス・キリストと彼を死人の中からよみがえらせた父なる神とによって立てられた使徒パウロ、 Paul, an apostle, (not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead;)
2 ならびにわたしと共にいる兄弟たち一同から、ガラテヤの諸教会へ。 And all the brethren which are with me, unto the churches of Galatia:
3 わたしたちの父なる神と主イエス・キリストから、恵みと平安とが、あなたがたにあるように。 Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ,
4 キリストは、わたしたちの父なる神の御旨に従い、わたしたちを今の悪の世から救い出そうとして、ご自身をわたしたちの罪のためにささげられたのである。 Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:
5 栄光が世々限りなく神にあるように、アァメン。 To whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
6 あなたがたがこんなにも早く、あなたがたをキリストの恵みの内へお招きになったかたから離れて、違った福音に落ちていくことが、わたしには不思議でならない。 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
7 それは福音というべきものではなく、ただ、ある種の人々があなたがたをかき乱し、キリストの福音を曲げようとしているだけのことである。 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
8 しかし、たといわたしたちであろうと、天からの御使であろうと、わたしたちが宣べ伝えた福音に反することをあなたがたに宣べ伝えるなら、その人はのろわるべきである。 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
9 わたしたちが前に言っておいたように、今わたしは重ねて言う。もしある人が、あなたがたの受けいれた福音に反することを宣べ伝えているなら、その人はのろわるべきである。 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
10 今わたしは、人に喜ばれようとしているのか、それとも、神に喜ばれようとしているのか。あるいは、人の歓心を買おうと努めているのか。もし、今もなお人の歓心を買おうとしているとすれば、わたしはキリストの僕ではあるまい。 For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.
11 兄弟たちよ。あなたがたに、はっきり言っておく。わたしが宣べ伝えた福音は人間によるものではない。 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.
12 わたしは、それを人間から受けたのでも教えられたのでもなく、ただイエス・キリストの啓示によったのである。 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.
13 ユダヤ教を信じていたころのわたしの行動については、あなたがたはすでによく聞いている。すなわち、わたしは激しく神の教会を迫害し、また荒しまわっていた。 For ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews’ religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it:
14 そして、同国人の中でわたしと同年輩の多くの者にまさってユダヤ教に精進し、先祖たちの言伝えに対して、だれよりもはるかに熱心であった。 And profited in the Jews’ religion above many my equals in mine own nation, being more exceedingly zealous of the traditions of my fathers.
15 ところが、母の胎内にある時からわたしを聖別し、み恵みをもってわたしをお召しになったかたが、 But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s womb, and called me by his grace,
16 異邦人の間に宣べ伝えさせるために、御子をわたしの内に啓示して下さった時、わたしは直ちに、血肉に相談もせず、 To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen; immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood:
17 また先輩の使徒たちに会うためにエルサレムにも上らず、アラビヤに出て行った。それから再びダマスコに帰った。 Neither went I up to Jerusalem to them which were apostles before me; but I went into Arabia, and returned again unto Damascus.
18 その後三年たってから、わたしはケパをたずねてエルサレムに上り、彼のもとに十五日間、滞在した。 Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to see Peter, and abode with him fifteen days.
19 しかし、主の兄弟ヤコブ以外には、ほかのどの使徒にも会わなかった。 But other of the apostles saw I none, save James the Lord’s brother.
20 ここに書いていることは、神のみまえで言うが、決して偽りではない。 Now the things which I write unto you, behold, before God, I lie not.
21 その後、わたしはシリヤとキリキヤとの地方に行った。 Afterwards I came into the regions of Syria and Cilicia;
22 しかし、キリストにあるユダヤの諸教会には、顔を知られていなかった。 And was unknown by face unto the churches of Judea which were in Christ:
23 ただ彼らは、「かつて自分たちを迫害した者が、以前には撲滅しようとしていたその信仰を、今は宣べ伝えている」と聞き、 But they had heard only, That he which persecuted us in times past now preacheth the faith which once he destroyed.
24 わたしのことで、神をほめたたえた。 And they glorified God in me.
