1 イエスはこれらの言葉を話すと，弟子たちと共にキドロンの小川の向こうへ出て行った。そこには園があって，彼と弟子たちはその中に入った。 When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples.
2 さて，彼を売り渡したユダもその場所を知っていた。イエスは弟子たちと共に何度もそこに行っていたからである。 And Judas also, which betrayed him, knew the place: for Jesus ofttimes resorted thither with his disciples.
3 そこでユダは，一隊の兵士および大祭司とファリサイ人たちからの役人たちを連れ，明かりとたいまつと武器を持って，そこにやって来た。 Judas then, having received a band of men and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weapons.
4 それでイエスは，自分に起ころうとしていたすべての事を知っていたので，出て行って彼らに言った，「だれを探し求めているのか」 。 Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek ye?
5 彼らは彼に答えた，「ナザレのイエスを」。 イエスは彼らに言った，「わたしはある」 。 彼を売り渡したユダも，彼らと共に立っていた。 They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them.
6 それで彼が「わたしはある」 と彼らに言うと，彼らは後ずさりして地面に倒れた。 As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground.
7 それで彼は再び彼らに尋ねた，「だれを探し求めているのか」 。 彼らは言った，「ナザレのイエスを」。 Then asked he them again, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth.
8 イエスは答えた，「わたしはあるとあなた方に告げたのだ。だから，あなた方がわたしを探しているのなら，これらの者たちは去らせなさい」 。 Jesus answered, I have told you that I am he: if therefore ye seek me, let these go their way:
9 それは，「あなたがわたしに与えてくださった者たちのうち，わたしは一人も失いませんでした」 と語った言葉が果たされるためであった。 That the saying might be fulfilled, which he spake, Of them which thou gavest me have I lost none.
10 それでシモン・ペトロは，剣を持っていたが，それを抜き，大祭司の召使いに撃ちかかり，その右の耳を切り落とした。その召使いの名はマルコスであった。 Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and smote the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus.
11 それでイエスはペトロに言った，「剣をさやに納めなさい。父がわたしに与えておられるこの杯，わたしはそれをどうして飲まないことがあるだろうか」 。 Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?
12 それでその一隊，指揮官，およびユダヤ人の役人たちは，イエスを捕まえて縛り， Then the band and the captain and officers of the Jews took Jesus, and bound him,
13 まずアンナスのところに連れて行った。その年に大祭司であったカイアファスのしゅうとであったからである。 And led him away to Annas first; for he was father in law to Caiaphas, which was the high priest that same year.
14 ところでこの者が，一人の人が民のために死ぬことが好都合だとユダヤ人たちに勧めたカイアファスであった。 Now Caiaphas was he, which gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.
15 シモン・ペトロは別の弟子と共にイエスに付いて行った。さて，その弟子は大祭司に知られていたので，イエスと共に大祭司の中庭に入った。 And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple: that disciple was known unto the high priest, and went in with Jesus into the palace of the high priest.
16 しかしペトロは外で戸口に立っていた。そこで大祭司に知られていたほかの弟子が出て来て戸口番の女に話し，ペトロを中に連れて来た。 But Peter stood at the door without. Then went out that other disciple, which was known unto the high priest, and spake unto her that kept the door, and brought in Peter.
17 すると，戸口番の女中がペトロに言った，「あなたもこの人の弟子の一人なのですか」。 彼は「違う」と言った。 Then saith the damsel that kept the door unto Peter, Art not thou also one of this man’s disciples? He saith, I am not.
18 ところで，寒かったので，召使いや役人たちはそこに立って炭火を起こしていた。彼らは身を暖めていた。ペトロも彼らと共におり，立って身を暖めていた。 And the servants and officers stood there, who had made a fire of coals; for it was cold: and they warmed themselves: and Peter stood with them, and warmed himself.
19 それで，大祭司はイエスに，彼の弟子たちや教えについて尋ねた。 The high priest then asked Jesus of his disciples, and of his doctrine.
20 イエスは彼に答えた，「わたしは世に対しておおっぴらに語った。わたしはいつも，ユダヤ人たちが常に集まる会堂や神殿で教えた。ひそかに話したことは何もない。 Jesus answered him, I spake openly to the world; I ever taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, whither the Jews always resort; and in secret have I said nothing.
21 なぜあなたはわたしに尋ねるのか。わたしが彼らに言ったことを聞いてきた人たちに尋ねなさい。見よ，これらの人たちはわたしが言った事を知っているのだ」 。 Why askest thou me? ask them which heard me, what I have said unto them: behold, they know what I said.
22 彼がこのことを言うと，役人の一人がイエスに平手打ちを加えて，「大祭司にそのような答えをするのか」と言った。 And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers which stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so?
23 イエスは彼に言った，「わたしが悪いことを語ったのなら，その悪について証言しなさい。だが，正しいのなら，なぜわたしを打つのか」 。 Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil: but if well, why smitest thou me?
24 アンナスは彼を縛ったまま，大祭司カイアファスのところに送った。 Now Annas had sent him bound unto Caiaphas the high priest.
25 さて，シモン・ペトロは立って身を暖めていた。それで人々は彼らに言った，「あなたも彼の弟子のうちの一人ではないだろうな」。 彼はそれを否定して，「違う」と言った。 And Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. They said therefore unto him, Art not thou also one of his disciples? He denied it, and said, I am not.
26 大祭司の召使いの一人で，ペトロが耳を切り落とした者の親族の者が言った，「わたしはあなたが園で彼と共にいるのを見なかっただろうか」。 One of the servants of the high priest, being his kinsman whose ear Peter cut off, saith, Did not I see thee in the garden with him?
27 それでペトロは再びそれを否定した。するとすぐにおんどりが鳴いた。 Peter then denied again: and immediately the cock crew.
28 それで彼らは，イエスをカイアファスのところからプラエトリウムに連れて行った。早朝のことであった。そして彼ら自身は，汚れることなく過ぎ越しの食事ができるように，プラエトリウムの中に入らなかった。 Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the passover.
29 それでピラトが彼らのところに出て来て，こう言った。「この人に対してどんな告訴を提出するのか」。 Pilate then went out unto them, and said, What accusation bring ye against this man?
30 彼らはピラトに答えた，「この人が悪人でなかったなら，わたしたちは彼をあなたのもとに引き渡しはしなかったでしょう」。 They answered and said unto him, If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up unto thee.
31 それでピラトは彼らに言った，「自分たちで彼を引き取って，お前たちの律法に従って彼を裁くがよい」。 それでユダヤ人たちは彼に言った，「わたしたちがだれかを死刑にすることは法律で認められていません」。 Then said Pilate unto them, Take ye him, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death:
32 それは，自分がどのような死に方で死ぬことになるかを示したイエスの言葉が果たされるためであった。 That the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spake, signifying what death he should die.
33 それでピラトは再びプラエトリウムの中に入って，イエスを呼び，彼に言った，「お前はユダヤ人の王なのか」。 Then Pilate entered into the judgment hall again, and called Jesus, and said unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews?
34 イエスは彼に答えた，「あなたは自分でこのことを言うのか。それともほかの人たちがわたしについてあなたに告げたのか」 。 Jesus answered him, Sayest thou this thing of thyself, or did others tell it thee of me?
35 ピラトは答えた，「わたしはユダヤ人ではないではないか。お前の国民と祭司長たちがお前をわたしに引き渡したのだ。お前は何をしたのか」。 Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thine own nation and the chief priests have delivered thee unto me: what hast thou done?
36 イエスは答えた，「わたしの王国はこの世のものではない。わたしの王国がこの世のものだったなら，わたしの召使いたちがわたしをユダヤ人たちに引き渡さないように闘ったことだろう。だが今，わたしの王国はこの世からのものではない」 。 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.
37 それでピラトは彼に答えた，「それではお前は王なのか」。 イエスは答えた，「あなたがわたしを王だと言っている。真理を証言すること，このためにわたしは生まれ，このためにわたしは世に入った。真理に属する者はみな，わたしの声を聞く」 。 Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.
38 ピラトは彼に言った，「真理とは何か」。 これを言ってから，再びユダヤ人たちのところへ出て行って，彼らに言った，「わたしは彼に対して訴える根拠を何も見いださない。 Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all.
39 だがお前たちには，過ぎ越しの際にだれかをわたしがあなた方に釈放するという習慣がある。それでお前たちは，このユダヤ人の王を釈放して欲しいのか」。 But ye have a custom, that I should release unto you one at the passover: will ye therefore that I release unto you the King of the Jews?
40 すると彼らは再び叫んで言った，「この人ではない。バラバを！」 ところでバラバは強盗であった。 Then cried they all again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.
