| 1 | あなた方の間の争いや闘いはどこから来るのですか。あなた方の肢体の中で戦う，快楽に対する欲情から来るのではありませんか。 | From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? |
| 2 | あなた方は渇望しますが，持っていません。人殺しをし，むやみに欲しがりますが，獲得できません。闘ったり争ったりします。あなた方が持っていないのは，求めないからです。 | Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. |
| 3 | 求めても受けていないのは，それを自分の快楽のために使おうとして，間違った動機で求めるからです。 | Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. |
| 4 | 姦淫を犯す者たち，また姦淫を犯す女たちよ，あなた方は世との交友が神との敵対であることを知らないのですか。それゆえ，だれでもこの世の友になりたいと思っている人は，自分を神の敵としているのです。 | Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. |
| 5 | それともあなた方は，「わたしたちのうちに住んでいる霊は，ねたむほどに慕っている」と聖書が述べているのは，無意味なことだと思っているのですか。 | Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy? |
| 6 | しかし，その方はさらに豊かな恵みを与えてくださるのです。それゆえ，こう言われています。「神は高慢な者に立ち向かい，謙そんな者に恵みをお与えになる」。 | But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. |
| 7 | ですから，神に服しなさい。しかし悪魔に立ち向かいなさい。そうすればあなた方から逃げ去るでしょう。 | Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. |
| 8 | 神に近づきなさい。そうすればあなた方に近づいてくださるでしょう。罪人たちよ，あなた方の手を清めなさい。二心の者たちよ，あなた方の心を清めなさい。 | Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. |
| 9 | 嘆き，悲しみ，泣きなさい。あなた方の笑いを悲しみに，あなた方の喜びを憂いに変えなさい。 | Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. |
| 10 | 主のみ前で自分を低くしなさい。そうすればあなた方を高くしてくださるでしょう。 | Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. |
| 11 | 兄弟たち，互いを悪く言ってはいけません。兄弟を悪く言ったり，自分の兄弟を裁いたりする者は，律法を悪く言い，律法を裁いているのです。そして，もし律法を裁いているなら，あなたは律法の実行者ではなく，裁き手です。 | Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge. |
| 12 | 立法者はただひとり，救うことも滅ぼすこともできる方です。それなのに，ほかの人を裁こうとするあなたは，いったい何者なのですか。 | There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another? |
| 13 | さあ，「今日か明日，あの町へ行き，一年間そこで過ごして，商売をし，金もうけをしよう」と言っている者たちよ。 | Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: |
| 14 | 一方では，あなた方は明日自分の命がどうなるかを知らないのです。というのは，あなた方の命はどんなものなのですか。あなた方は，少しの間現われて，やがて消え去ってしまう霧にすぎないのです。 | Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. |
| 15 | あなた方は，「もし主のご意志であれば，わたしたちは生きていて，あのことやこのことをするでしょう」と言うべきなのです。 | For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that. |
| 16 | しかし今，あなた方は自分の自慢を誇りとしています。そうした自慢はすべて悪いことです。 | But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil. |
| 17 | それゆえ，善をなすことを知っていながら，それを行なわないなら，それはその人にとって罪なのです。 | Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin. |
