| 1 | サウロは彼の死刑に同意していた。その日，エルサレムにあった集会に対して激しい迫害が起こった。使徒たちのほかは皆，ユダヤとサマリアの地方全域に散らされていった。 | And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles. |
| 2 | 敬けんな人々はステファノを葬り，彼のために大いに嘆いた。 | And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him. |
| 3 | 一方，サウロは集会を荒らそうとして，すべての家に押し入り，男も女も引きずり出してはろうやに引き渡した。 | As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison. |
| 4 | それで，各地に散らされた人たちは，み言葉を宣教しながら巡回した。 | Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word. |
| 5 | フィリポはサマリアの町に下って行き，人々にキリストを宣明した。 | Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them. |
| 6 | 群衆は，フィリポが行なったしるしを見聞きすると，彼の語る事柄に心を合わせて聞き従った。 | And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. |
| 7 | 汚れた霊が取り付いていた多くの者から，それらが出て来たからである。それらは大声で叫びながら出て来た。体がまひした人や足の不自由な人が大勢いやされた。 | For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed. |
| 8 | この町には大きな喜びが起こった。 | And there was great joy in that city. |
| 9 | ところで，そこにはある人がいたが，名をシモンといい，その町で以前から魔術を行なってサマリアの人々を驚かせ，自分を何か偉い者のように見せかけていた。 | But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one: |
| 10 | 最も小さな者から最も大きな者に至るまで，みんなが彼に聞き従い，「この人は神の偉大な力だ」と言っていた。 | To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God. |
| 11 | 人々が彼に聞き従ったのは，彼が長い間，その魔術によって人々を驚かせてきたためであった。 | And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had bewitched them with sorceries. |
| 12 | ところが，人々は，神の王国とイエス・キリストの名についての良いたよりを宣教するフィリポを信じた時，男も女もバプテスマを受けた。 | But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. |
| 13 | シモン自身もバプテスマを受けた。彼はバプテスマを受けると，いつもフィリポに伴っていた。しるしや大きな奇跡が起きるのを見て，驚いていた。 | Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done. |
| 14 | さて，エルサレムにいた使徒たちは，サマリアが神の言葉を受け入れたと聞くと，ペトロとヨハネを彼らのもとに遣わした。 | Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: |
| 15 | 二人は下って行き，彼らが聖霊を受けるようにと彼らのために祈った。 | Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: |
| 16 | それがまだ彼らの中のだれにも下っていなかったからである。彼らは，ただキリスト・イエスの名においてバプテスマを受けていただけであった。 | (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) |
| 17 | それで，二人が彼らの上に手を置くと，彼らは聖霊を受けた。 | Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost. |
| 18 | その時，シモンは，使徒たちが手を置くことによって聖霊が与えられるのを見ると，二人にお金を差し出して | And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money, |
| 19 | 言った，「わたしにもこの力を下さって，だれでもわたしが手を置く人が聖霊を受けられるようにしてください」。 | Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost. |
| 20 | しかしペトロは彼に言った，「あなたの銀はあなたと共に滅びてしまうがよい。あなたは神の贈り物をお金で得られると考えたからだ！ | But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money. |
| 21 | あなたはこの事において受け分も分け前も持っていない。あなたの心が神の前にまっすぐでないからだ。 | Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God. |
| 22 | だから，この悪事を悔い改め，神に請い求めなさい。そうすれば，あなたの心の思いが許されることになるかも知れない。 | Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee. |
| 23 | あなたが苦い胆汁と不法の束縛との中にいるのが，わたしには見えるからだ」。 | For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity. |
| 24 | シモンは答えた，「皆さん，わたしのために主に祈ってください。あなた方の言われたことが何一つわたしに起こらないようにするためです」。 | Then answered Simon, and said, Pray ye to the Lord for me, that none of these things which ye have spoken come upon me. |
| 25 | このようにして，二人は証言して主の言葉を語ってから，エルサレムに引き返し，サマリア人の多くの村に福音を宣教した。 | And they, when they had testified and preached the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the gospel in many villages of the Samaritans. |
| 26 | 一方，主のみ使いがフィリポに語りかけて，こう言った。「立って，南の方へ行き，エルサレムからガザに下る道に出なさい。そこは砂漠の道だ」。 | And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert. |
| 27 | 彼は立って出かけて行った。すると見よ，一人のエチオピア人がいた。エチオピア人の女王カンダケのもとで大きな権力を持つ宦官で，彼女の全財宝を管理していたが，礼拝のためにエルサレムに来ていた。 | And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship, |
| 28 | その帰りに，自分の戦車の中に座り，預言者イザヤを朗読していた。 | Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet. |
| 29 | 霊がフィリポに言った，「近寄って，あの戦車と一緒に行きなさい」。 | Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot. |
| 30 | フィリポは走り寄り，彼が預言者イザヤを朗読しているのを聞いて，こう言った。「読んでいることが分かりますか」。 | And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest? |
| 31 | 彼は言った，「だれかが説明してくれなければ，どうして分かるでしょうか」。そして，上がって来て自分と一緒に座ってくれるよう，フィリポに頼んだ。 | And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him. |
| 32 | ところで，彼が朗読していた聖書の箇所は，次のとおりであった。 「彼は羊のようにほふり場に引かれて行った。毛を刈る者の前で黙っている子羊のように，その口を開かない。 | The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth: |
| 33 | 辱めを受け，その裁きは取り去られた。だれがその子孫のことを語るだろうか。その命は地から取り去られるからだ」。 | In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth. |
| 34 | 宦官はフィリポに答えた，「この預言者はだれについて語っているのでしょうか。自分自身についてですか。それともだれかほかの人についてですか」。 | And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man? |
| 35 | フィリポは口を開き，この聖句から始めて，彼にイエスのことを宣教した。 | Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus. |
| 36 | 彼らが進んで行くと，水のある所に来た。そこで宦官は言った，「ご覧ください，ここに水があります。わたしがバプテスマを受けるのに何の妨げがあるでしょうか」。 | And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? |
| 37 | — | And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. |
| 38 | 彼は戦車に止まるよう命じた。そして，フィリポと宦官は二人とも水の中に下りて行き，フィリポは彼にバプテスマを施した。 | And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. |
| 39 | 二人が水から上がると，主の霊がフィリポを連れ去ったので，宦官はもはや彼を見なかったが，喜びながら自分の道を進んで行った。 | And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing. |
| 40 | 一方，フィリポはアゾトスに現われた。すべての町々を通り抜けながら，福音を宣教し，ついにカエサレアに着いた。 | But Philip was found at Azotus: and passing through he preached in all the cities, till he came to Cesarea. |
