1 アブラハム彼處より徒りて南の地に至りカデシとシユルの間に居りゲラルに寄留り And Abraham journeyed from thence toward the south country, and dwelled between Kadesh and Shur, and sojourned in Gerar.
2 アブラハム其妻サラを我妹なりと言しかばゲラルの王アビメレク人を遣してサラを召入たり And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, She is my sister: and Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah.
3 然るに神夜の夢にアビメレクに臨みて之に言たまひけるは汝は其召入たる婦人のために死るなるべし彼は夫ある者なればなり But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, Behold, thou art but a dead man, for the woman which thou hast taken; for she is a man’s wife.
4 アビメレク未だ彼に近づかざりしかば言ふ主よ汝は義き民をも殺したまふや But Abimelech had not come near her: and he said, Lord, wilt thou slay also a righteous nation?
5 彼は我に是はわが妹なりと言しにあらずや又婦も自彼はわが兄なりと言たり我全き心と潔き手をもて此をなせり Said he not unto me, She is my sister? and she, even she herself said, He is my brother: in the integrity of my heart and innocency of my hands have I done this.
6 神又夢に之に言たまひけるは然り我汝が全き心をもて之をなせるを知りたれば我も汝を阻めて罪を我に犯さしめざりき彼に觸るを容ざりしは是がためなり And God said unto him in a dream, Yea, I know that thou didst this in the integrity of thy heart; for I also withheld thee from sinning against me: therefore suffered I thee not to touch her.
7 然ば彼の妻を歸せ彼は預言者なれば汝のために祈り汝をして生命を保しめん汝若歸ずば汝と汝に屬する者皆必死るべきを知るべし Now therefore restore the man his wife; for he is a prophet, and he shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live: and if thou restore her not, know thou that thou shalt surely die, thou, and all that are thine.
8 是に於てアビメレク其朝夙に起て臣僕を悉く召し此事を皆語り聞せければ人々甚く懼れたり Therefore Abimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told all these things in their ears: and the men were sore afraid.
9 斯てアビメレク、アブラハムを召て之に言けるは爾我等に何を爲すや我何の惡き事を爾になしたれば爾大なる罪を我とわが國に蒙らしめんとせしか爾爲べからざる所爲を我に爲したり Then Abimelech called Abraham, and said unto him, What hast thou done unto us? and what have I offended thee, that thou hast brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? thou hast done deeds unto me that ought not to be done.
10 アビメレク又アブラハムに言けるは爾何を見て此事を爲たるや And Abimelech said unto Abraham, What sawest thou, that thou hast done this thing?
11 アブラハム言けるは我此處はかならず神を畏れざるべければ吾妻のために人我を殺さんと思ひたるなり And Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely the fear of God is not in this place; and they will slay me for my wife’s sake.
12 又我は誠にわが妹なり彼はわが父の子にしてわが母の子にあらざるが遂に我妻となりたるなり And yet indeed she is my sister; she is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife.
13 神我をして吾父の家を離れて周遊しめたまへる時に當りて我彼に爾我等が至る處にて我を爾の兄なりと言へ是は爾が我に施す恩なりと言たり And it came to pass, when God caused me to wander from my father’s house, that I said unto her, This is thy kindness which thou shalt shew unto me; at every place whither we shall come, say of me, He is my brother.
14 アビメレク乃ち羊牛僕婢を將てアブラハムに與へ其妻サラ之に歸せり And Abimelech took sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and womenservants, and gave them unto Abraham, and restored him Sarah his wife.
15 而してアビメレク言けるは視よ我地は爾のまへにあり爾の好むところに住め And Abimelech said, Behold, my land is before thee: dwell where it pleaseth thee.
16 又サラに言けるは視よ我爾の兄に銀千枚を與へたり是は爾および諸の人にありし事等につきて爾の目を蔽ふ者なり斯爾償贖を得たり And unto Sarah he said, Behold, I have given thy brother a thousand pieces of silver: behold, he is to thee a covering of the eyes, unto all that are with thee, and with all other: thus she was reproved.
17 是に於てアブラハム神に祈りければ神アビメレクと其妻および婢を醫したまひて彼等子を產むにいたる So Abraham prayed unto God: and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maidservants; and they bare children.
18 ヱホバさきにはアブラハムの妻サラの故をもてアビメレクの家の者の胎をことごとく閉たまへり For the Lord had fast closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah Abraham’s wife.
