1 ヱホバ、マムレの橡林にてアブラハムに顯現たまへり彼は日の熱き時刻天幕の入口に坐しゐたりしが And the Lord appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day;
2 目を擧て見たるに視よ三人の人其前に立り彼見て天幕の入口より趨り行て之を迎へ And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground,
3 身を地に鞠めて言けるは我が主よ我若汝の目のまへに恩を得たるならば請ふ僕を通り過すなかれ And said, My Lord, if now I have found favour in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant:
4 請ふ少許の水を取きたらしめ汝等の足を濯ひて樹の下に休憇たまへ Let a little water, I pray you, be fetched, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree:
5 我一口のパンを取來らん汝等心を慰めて然る後過ゆくべし汝等僕の所に來ればなり彼等言ふ汝が言るごとく爲せ And I will fetch a morsel of bread, and comfort ye your hearts; after that ye shall pass on: for therefore are ye come to your servant. And they said, So do, as thou hast said.
6 是においてアブラハム天幕に急ぎいりてサラの許に至りて言けるは速に細麺三セヤを取り捏てパンを作るべしと And Abraham hastened into the tent unto Sarah, and said, Make ready quickly three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes upon the hearth.
7 而してアブラハム牛の群に趨ゆき犢の柔にして善き者を取りきたりて少者に付しければ急ぎて之を調理ふ And Abraham ran unto the herd, and fetcht a calf tender and good, and gave it unto a young man; and he hasted to dress it.
8 かくてアブラハム牛酪と牛乳および其調理へたる犢を取て彼等のまへに供へ樹の下にて其側に立り彼等乃ち食へり And he took butter, and milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree, and they did eat.
9 彼等アブラハムに言けるは爾の妻サラは何處にあるや彼言ふ天幕にあり And they said unto him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent.
10 其一人言ふ明年の今頃我必ず爾に返るべし爾の妻サラに男子あらんサラ其後なる天幕の入口にありて聞ゐたり And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him.
11 抑アブラハムとサラは年邁み老いたる者にしてサラには婦人の常の經已に息たり Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age; and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.
12 是故にサラ心に哂ひて言けるは我は老衰へ吾が主も亦老たる後なれば我に樂あるべけんや Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?
13 ヱホバ、アブラハムに言たまひけるは何故にサラは哂ひて我老たれば果して子を生ことあらんと言ふや And the Lord said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old?
14 ヱホバに豈爲し難き事あらんや時至らば我定めたる期に爾に歸るべしサラに男子あらんと Is any thing too hard for the Lord? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.
15 サラ懼れたれば承ずして我哂はずと言へりヱホバ言たまひけるは否汝哂へるなり Then Sarah denied, saying, I laughed not; for she was afraid. And he said, Nay; but thou didst laugh.
16 斯て其人々彼處より起てソドムの方を望みければアブラハム彼等を送らんとて倶に行り And the men rose up from thence, and looked toward Sodom: and Abraham went with them to bring them on the way.
17 ヱホバ言ひ給けるは我爲んとする事をアブラハムに隱すべけんや And the Lord said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do;
18 アブラハムは必ず大なる強き國民となりて天下の民皆彼に由て福を獲に至るべきに在ずや Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him?
19 其は我彼をして其後の兒孫と家族とに命じヱホバの道を守りて公儀と公道を行しめん爲に彼をしれり是ヱホバ、アブラハムに其曾て彼に就て言し事を行はん爲なり For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment; that the Lord may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.
20 ヱホバ又言給ふソドムとゴモラの號呼大なるに因り又其罪甚だ重に因て And the Lord said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous;
21 我今下りて其號呼の我に逹れる如くかれら全く行ひたりしやを見んとす若しからずば我知るに至らんと I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know.
22 其人々其處より身を旋してソドムに赴むけりアブラハムは尚ほヱホバのまへに立り And the men turned their faces from thence, and went toward Sodom: but Abraham stood yet before the Lord.
23 アブラハム近よりて言けるは爾は義者をも惡者と倶に滅ぼしたまふや And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked?
24 若邑の中に五十人の義者あるも汝尚ほ其處を滅ぼし其中の五十人の義者のためにこれを恕したまはざるや Peradventure there be fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein?
25 なんぢ斯の如く爲て義者と惡者と倶に殺すが如きは是あるまじき事なり又義者と惡者を均等するが如きもあるまじき事なり天下を鞫く者は公儀を行ふ可にあらずや That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?
26 ヱホバ言たまひけるは我若ソドムに於て邑の中に五十人の義者を看ば其人々のために其處を盡く恕さん And the Lord said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes.
27 アブラハム應へていひけるは我は塵と灰なれども敢て我主に言上す And Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord, which am but dust and ashes:
28 若五十人の義者の中五人缺たらんに爾五人の缺たるために邑を盡く滅ぼしたまふやヱホバ言たまひけるは我若彼處に四十五人を看ば滅さざるべし Peradventure there shall lack five of the fifty righteous: wilt thou destroy all the city for lack of five? And he said, If I find there forty and five, I will not destroy it.
29 アブラハム又重ねてヱホバに言上して曰けるは若彼處に四十人看えなば如何ヱホバ言たまふ我四十人のために之をなさじ And he spake unto him yet again, and said, Peradventure there shall be forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for forty’s sake.
30 アブラハム曰ひけるは請ふわが主よ怒らずして言しめたまへ若彼處に三十人看えなば如何ヱホバいひたまふ我三十人を彼處に看ば之を爲じ And he said unto him, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak: Peradventure there shall thirty be found there. And he said, I will not do it, if I find thirty there.
31 アブラハム言ふ我あへてわが主に言上す若彼處に二十人看えなば如何ヱホバ言たまふ我二十人のためにほろぼさじ And he said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord: Peradventure there shall be twenty found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for twenty’s sake.
32 アブラハム言ふ請ふわが主怒らずして今一度言しめたまへ若かしこに十人看えなば如何ヱホバ言たまふ我十人のためにほろぼさじ And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten’s sake.
33 ヱホバ、アブラハムと言ふことを終てゆきたまへりアブラハムおのれの所にかへりぬ And the Lord went his way, as soon as he had left communing with Abraham: and Abraham returned unto his place.
