| 1 | 自己を人と異にする者はおのれの欲するところのみを求めてすべての善き考察にもとる | Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom. |
| 2 | 愚なる者は明哲を喜ばず 惟おのれの心意を顯すことを喜ぶ | A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself. |
| 3 | 惡者きたれば藐視したがひてきたり 恥きたれば凌辱もともに來る | When the wicked cometh, then cometh also contempt, and with ignominy reproach. |
| 4 | 人の口の言は深水の如し 湧てながるる川 智慧の泉なり | The words of a man’s mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook. |
| 5 | 惡者を偏視るは善らず 審判をなして義者を惡しとするも亦善らず | It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgment. |
| 6 | 愚なる者の口唇はあらそひを起し その口は打るることを招く | A fool’s lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes. |
| 7 | 愚なる者の口はおのれの敗壞となり その口唇はおのれの霊魂の罟となる | A fool’s mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul. |
| 8 | 人の是非をいふものの言はたはぶれのごとしといへども反つて腹の奧にいる | The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly. |
| 9 | その行爲をおこたる者は滅すものの兄弟なり | He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster. |
| 10 | ヱホバの名はかたき櫓のごとし 義者は之に走りいりて救を得 | The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe. |
| 11 | 富者の資財はその堅き城なり これを高き石垣の如くに思ふ | The rich man’s wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit. |
| 12 | 人の心のたかぶりは滅亡に先だち 謙遜はたふとまるる事にさきだつ | Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility. |
| 13 | いまだ事をきかざるさきに應ふる者は愚にして辱をかうぶる | He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him. |
| 14 | 人の心は尚其疾を忍ぶべし されど心の傷める時は誰かこれに耐んや | The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear? |
| 15 | 哲者の心は知識をえ 智慧ある者の耳は知識を求む | The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge. |
| 16 | 人の贈物はその人のために道をひらき かつ貴きものの前にこれを導く | A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men. |
| 17 | 先に訴訟の理由をのぶるものは正義に似たれども その鄰人きたり詰問ひてその事を明かにす | He that is first in his own cause seemeth just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him. |
| 18 | 籤は爭端をとどめ且つよきものの間にへだてとなる | The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty. |
| 19 | 怒れる兄弟はかたき城にもまさりて説き伏せがたし 兄弟のあらそひは櫓の貫木のごとし | A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle. |
| 20 | 人は口の徳によりて腹をあかし その口唇の徳によりて自ら飽べし | A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled. |
| 21 | 死生は舌の權能にあり これを愛する者はその果を食はん | Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. |
| 22 | 妻を得るものは美物を得るなり 且ヱホバより恩寵をあたへらる | Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the Lord. |
| 23 | 貧者は哀なる言をもて乞ひ 富人は厲しき答をなす | The poor useth intreaties; but the rich answereth roughly. |
| 24 | 多の友をまうくる人は遂にその身を亡す 但し兄弟よりもたのもしき知己もまたあり | A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother. |
