1 請ふなんぢ龥びて看よ 誰か汝に應ふる者ありや 聖者の中にて誰に汝むかはんとするや Call now, if there be any that will answer thee; and to which of the saints wilt thou turn?
2 夫愚なる者は憤恨のために身を殺し 癡き者は嫉媢のために己を死しむ For wrath killeth the foolish man, and envy slayeth the silly one.
3 我みづから愚なる者のその根を張るを見たりしがすみやかにその家を詛へり I have seen the foolish taking root: but suddenly I cursed his habitation.
4 その子等は助援を獲ることなく 門にて惱まさる 之を救ふ者なし His children are far from safety, and they are crushed in the gate, neither is there any to deliver them.
5 その穡とれる物は饑たる人これを食ひ 荊棘の籬の中にありてもなほ之を奪ひいだし 羂をその所有物にむかひて口を張る Whose harvest the hungry eateth up, and taketh it even out of the thorns, and the robber swalloweth up their substance.
6 災禍は塵より起らず 艱難は土より出ず Although affliction cometh not forth of the dust, neither doth trouble spring out of the ground;
7 人の生れて艱難をうくるは火の子の上に飛がごとし Yet man is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward.
8 もし我ならんには我は必らず神に告求め 我事を神に任せん I would seek unto God, and unto God would I commit my cause:
9 神は大にして測りがたき事を行ひたまふ 其不思議なる事を爲たまふこと數しれず Which doeth great things and unsearchable; marvellous things without number:
10 雨を地の上に降し 水を野に遣り Who giveth rain upon the earth, and sendeth waters upon the fields:
11 卑き者を高く擧げ 憂ふる者を引興して幸福ならしめたまふ To set up on high those that be low; that those which mourn may be exalted to safety.
12 神は狡しき者の謀計を敗り 之をして何事をもその手に成就ること能はざらしめ He disappointeth the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot perform their enterprise.
13 慧き者をその自分の詭計によりて執へ 邪なる者の謀計をして敗れしむ He taketh the wise in their own craftiness: and the counsel of the froward is carried headlong.
14 彼らは晝も暗黑に遇ひ 卓午にも夜の如くに摸り惑はん They meet with darkness in the daytime, and grope in the noonday as in the night.
15 神は惱める者を救ひてかれらが口の劍を免かれしめ 強き者の手を免かれしめたまふ But he saveth the poor from the sword, from their mouth, and from the hand of the mighty.
16 是をもて弱き者望あり 惡き者口を閉づ So the poor hath hope, and iniquity stoppeth her mouth.
17 神の懲したまふ人は幸福なり 然ば汝全能者の儆責を輕んずる勿れ Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty:
18 神は傷け又裹み 撃ていため又その手をもて善醫したまふ For he maketh sore, and bindeth up: he woundeth, and his hands make whole.
19 彼はなんぢを六の艱難の中にて救ひたまふ 七の中にても災禍なんぢにのぞまじ He shall deliver thee in six troubles: yea, in seven there shall no evil touch thee.
20 饑饉の時にはなんぢを救ひて死を免れしめ 戰爭の時には劍の手を免れしめたまふ In famine he shall redeem thee from death: and in war from the power of the sword.
21 汝は舌にて鞭たるる時にも隱るることを得 壞滅の來る時にも懼るること有じ Thou shalt be hid from the scourge of the tongue: neither shalt thou be afraid of destruction when it cometh.
22 汝は壞滅と饑饉を笑ひ地の獸をも懼るること無るべし At destruction and famine thou shalt laugh: neither shalt thou be afraid of the beasts of the earth.
23 田野の石なんぢと相結び野の獸なんぢと和がん For thou shalt be in league with the stones of the field: and the beasts of the field shall be at peace with thee.
24 汝はおのが幕屋の安然なるを知ん 汝の住處を見まはるに缺たる者なからん And thou shalt know that thy tabernacle shall be in peace; and thou shalt visit thy habitation, and shalt not sin.
25 汝また汝の子等の多くなり 汝の裔の地の草の如くになるを知ん Thou shalt know also that thy seed shall be great, and thine offspring as the grass of the earth.
26 汝は遐齡におよびて墓にいらん 宛然麥束を時にいたりて運びあぐるごとくなるべし Thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age, like as a shock of corn cometh in in his season.
27 視よ我らが尋ね明めし所かくのごとし 汝これを聽て自ら知れよ Lo this, we have searched it, so it is; hear it, and know thou it for thy good.
