1 ヱホバまたヨブに對へて言たまはく Moreover the Lord answered Job, and said,
2 非難する者ヱホバと爭はんとするや 神と論ずる者これに答ふべし Shall he that contendeth with the Almighty instruct him? he that reproveth God, let him answer it.
3 ヨブ是においてヱホバに答へて曰く Then Job answered the Lord, and said,
4 嗚呼われは賤しき者なり 何となんぢに答へまつらんや 唯手をわが口に當んのみ Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth.
5 われ已に一度言たり 復いはじ 已に再度せり 重ねて述じ Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: yea, twice; but I will proceed no further.
6 是に於てヱホバまた大風の中よりヨブに應へて言たまはく Then answered the Lord unto Job out of the whirlwind, and said,
7 なんぢ腰ひきからげて丈夫のごとくせよ 我なんぢに問ん なんぢ我にこたへよ Gird up thy loins now like a man: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me.
8 なんぢ我審判を廢んとするや 我を非として自身を是とせんとするや Wilt thou also disannul my judgment? wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be righteous?
9 なんぢ神のごとき腕ありや 神のごとき聲をもて轟きわたらんや Hast thou an arm like God? or canst thou thunder with a voice like him?
10 さればなんぢ威光と尊貴とをもて自ら飾り 榮光と華美とをもて身に纒へ Deck thyself now with majesty and excellency; and array thyself with glory and beauty.
11 なんぢの溢るる震怒を洩し 高ぶる者を視とめて之をことごとく卑くせよ Cast abroad the rage of thy wrath: and behold every one that is proud, and abase him.
12 すなはち高ぶる者を見てこれを盡く鞠ませ また惡人を立所に踐つけ Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place.
13 これを塵の中に埋め これが面を隱れたる處に閉こめよ Hide them in the dust together; and bind their faces in secret.
14 さらば我もなんぢを讚てなんぢの右の手なんぢを救ひ得ると爲ん Then will I also confess unto thee that thine own right hand can save thee.
15 今なんぢ我がなんぢとともに造りたりし河馬を視よ 是は牛のごとく草を食ふ Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox.
16 觀よその力は腰にあり その勢力は腹の筋にあり Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly.
17 その尾の搖く樣は香柏のごとく その腿の筋は彼此に盤互ふ He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together.
18 その骨は銅の管ごとくその肋骨は鐡の棒のごとし His bones are as strong pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron.
19 これは神の工の第一なる者にして之を造りし者これに劍を賦けたり He is the chief of the ways of God: he that made him can make his sword to approach unto him.
20 山もこれがために食物を產出し もろもろの野獸そこに遊ぶ Surely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play.
21 これは蓮の樹の下に臥し 葦蘆の中または沼の裏に隱れをる He lieth under the shady trees, in the covert of the reed, and fens.
22 蓮の樹その蔭をもてこれを覆ひ また河の柳これを環りかこむ The shady trees cover him with their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about.
23 たとひ河荒くなるとも驚ろかず ヨルダンその口に注ぎかかるも惶てず Behold, he drinketh up a river, and hasteth not: he trusteth that he can draw up Jordan into his mouth.
24 その目の前にて誰か之を執ふるを得ん 誰か羂をその鼻に貫ぬくを得ん He taketh it with his eyes: his nose pierceth through snares.
