1 凡そイエスをキリストと信ずる者は、神より生れたるなり。おほよそ之を生み給ひし神を愛する者は、神より生れたる者をも愛す。 Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.
2 我等もし神を愛して、その誡命を行はば、之によりて神の子供を愛することを知る。 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
3 神の誡命を守るは即ち神を愛するなり、而してその誡命は難からず。 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
4 おほよそ神より生るる者は世に勝つ、世に勝つ勝利は我らの信仰なり。 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
5 世に勝つものは誰ぞ、イエスを神の子と信ずる者にあらずや。 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
6 これ水と血とに由りて來り給ひし者、即ちイエス・キリストなり。啻に水のみならず、水と血とをもて來り給ひしなり。 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.
7 證する者は御靈なり。御靈は眞理なればなり。 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
8 證する者は三つ、御靈と水と血となり。この三つ合ひて一つとなる。 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.
9 我等もし人の證を受けんには、神の證は更に大なり。神の證はその子につきて證し給ひし是なり。 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son.
10 神の子を信ずる者はその衷にこの證をもち、神を信ぜぬ者は神を僞 者とす。これ神その子につきて證せし證を信ぜぬが故なり。 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.
11 その證はこれなり、神は永遠の生命を我らに賜へり、この生命はその子にあり。 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
12 御子をもつ者は生命をもち、神の子をもたぬ者は生命をもたず。 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
13 われ神の子の名を信ずる汝らに此 等のことを書き贈るは、汝らに自ら永遠の生命を有つことを知らしめん爲なり。 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
14 我らが神に向ひて確信する所は是なり、即ち御意にかなふ事を求めば、必ず聽き給ふ。 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:
15 かく求むるところ、何事にても聽き給ふと知れば、求めし願を得たる事をも知るなり。 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.
16 人もし其の兄弟の死に至らぬ罪を犯すを見ば、神に求むべし。さらば彼に、死に至らぬ罪を犯す人々に生命を與へ給はん。死に至る罪あり、我これに就きて請ふべしと言はず。 If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.
17 凡ての不義は罪なり、されど死に至らぬ罪あり。 All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.
18 凡て神より生れたる者の罪を犯さぬことを我らは知る。神より生れ給ひし者、これを守りたまふ故に、惡しきもの觸るる事をせざるなり。 We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.
19 我らは神より出で、全世界は惡しき者に屬するを我らは知る。 And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.
20 また神の子すでに來りて我らに眞の者を知る知識を賜ひしを我らは知る。而して我らは眞の者に居り、その子イエス・キリストに居るなり、彼は眞の神にして永遠の生命なり。 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.
21 若子よ、自ら守りて偶像に遠ざかれ。 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.
