| 1 | 長老、書を愛するガイオ、わが眞をもて愛する者に贈る。 | The elder unto the wellbeloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth. |
| 2 | 愛する者よ、我なんぢが靈魂の榮ゆるごとく汝すべての事に榮え、かつ健かならんことを祈る。 | Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. |
| 3 | 兄弟たち來りて汝が眞理を保つこと、即ち眞理に循ひて歩むことを證したれば、われ甚だ喜べり。 | For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth. |
| 4 | 我には我が子供の、眞理に循ひて歩むことを聞くより大なる喜悦はなし。 | I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth. |
| 5 | 愛する者よ、なんぢ旅人なる兄弟たちにまで行ふ所みな忠實をもて爲せり。 | Beloved, thou doest faithfully whatsoever thou doest to the brethren, and to strangers; |
| 6 | かれら教會の前にて汝の愛につきて證せり。なんぢ神の御意に適ふやうに彼らを見 送らば、その行ふところ善からん。 | Which have borne witness of thy charity before the church: whom if thou bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, thou shalt do well: |
| 7 | 彼らは異邦人より何をも受けずして御名のために旅立せり。 | Because that for his name’s sake they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles. |
| 8 | されば斯かる人を助くべきなり、我らも彼らと共に眞理のために働く者とならん爲なり。 | We therefore ought to receive such, that we might be fellowhelpers to the truth. |
| 9 | われ曩に聊か教會に書きおくれり。然れど彼らの中に長たらんと欲するデオテレペス我らを受けず。 | I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not. |
| 10 | この故に我もし往かば、その行へる業を思ひ出させん。彼は惡しき言をもて我らを罵り、なほ足れりとせずして自ら兄弟たちを接けず、之を接けんとする者をも拒みて教會より逐ひ出す。 | Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doeth, prating against us with malicious words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth them out of the church. |
| 11 | 愛する者よ、惡に效ふな、善にならへ。善をおこなふ者は神より出で、惡をおこなふ者は未だ神を見ざるなり。 | Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God. |
| 12 | デメテリオは凡ての人にも眞理にも證せらる。我等もまた證す、なんぢ我らの證の眞なるを知る。 | Demetrius hath good report of all men, and of the truth itself: yea, and we also bear record; and ye know that our record is true. |
| 13 | 我なほ汝に書き贈ること多くあれど、墨と筆とにてするを欲せず、 | I had many things to write, but I will not with ink and pen write unto thee: |
| 14 | 速かに汝を見、たがひに顏をあはせて語らんことを望む。 汝に平安あれ、朋友たち安否を問ふ。なんぢ名をさして友たちに安否を問へ。 | But I trust I shall shortly see thee, and we shall speak face to face. Peace be to thee. Our friends salute thee. Greet the friends by name. |
