1 使徒たち及びユダヤに居る兄弟たちは、異邦人も神の言を受けたりと聞く。 And the apostles and brethren that were in Judea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God.
2 かくてペテロのエルサレムに上りしとき、割禮ある者ども彼を詰りて言ふ、 And when Peter was come up to Jerusalem, they that were of the circumcision contended with him,
3 『なんぢ割禮なき者の内に入りて之と共に食せり』 Saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised, and didst eat with them.
4 ペテロ有りし事を序 正しく説き出して言ふ、 But Peter rehearsed the matter from the beginning, and expounded it by order unto them, saying,
5 『われヨツパの町にて祈り居るとき、我を忘れし心地し、幻影にて器のくだるを見る、大なる布のごとき物にして、四隅もて天より縋り下され我が許にきたる。 I was in the city of Joppa praying: and in a trance I saw a vision, A certain vessel descend, as it had been a great sheet, let down from heaven by four corners; and it came even to me:
6 われ目を注めて之を視るに、地の四 足のもの、野の獸、匐ふもの、空の鳥を見たり。 Upon the which when I had fastened mine eyes, I considered, and saw fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.
7 また「ペテロ、立て、屠りて食せよ」といふ聲を聞けり。 And I heard a voice saying unto me, Arise, Peter; slay and eat.
8 我いふ「主よ、可からじ、潔からぬもの穢れたる物は、曾て我が口に入りしことなし」 But I said, Not so, Lord: for nothing common or unclean hath at any time entered into my mouth.
9 再び天より聲ありて答ふ「神の潔め給ひし物を、なんぢ潔からずと爲な」 But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.
10 かくの如きこと三度にして、終にはみな天に引上げられたり。 And this was done three times: and all were drawn up again into heaven.
11 視よ、三人の者カイザリヤより我に遣されて、はや我らの居る家の前に立てり。 And, behold, immediately there were three men already come unto the house where I was, sent from Cesarea unto me.
12 御靈われに、疑はずして彼らと共に往くことを告げ給ひたれば、此の六 人の兄弟も我とともに往きて、かの人の家に入れり。 And the spirit bade me go with them, nothing doubting. Moreover these six brethren accompanied me, and we entered into the man’s house:
13 彼はおのが家に御使の立ちて「人をヨツパに遣し、ペテロと稱ふるシモンを招け、 And he shewed us how he had seen an angel in his house, which stood and said unto him, Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter;
14 その人、なんぢと汝の全家族との救はるべき言を語らん」と言ふを、見しことを我らに告げたり。 Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved.
15 ここに、われ語り出づるや、聖 靈かれらの上に降りたまふ、初め我らの上に降りし如し。 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.
16 われ主の曾て「ヨハネは水にてバプテスマを施ししが、汝らは聖 靈にてバプテスマを施されん」と宣給ひし御言を思ひ出せり。 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.
17 神われらが主イエス・キリストを信ぜしときに賜ひしと同じ賜物を彼らにも賜ひたるに、われ何 者なれば神を阻み得ん』 Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?
18 人々これを聞きて默然たりしが、頓て神を崇めて言ふ『されば神は異邦人にも生命を得さする悔改を與へ給ひしなり』 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.
19 かくてステパノによりて起りし迫害のために散されたる者ども、ピニケ、クブロ、アンテオケまで到り、ただユダヤ人にのみ御言を語りたるに、 Now they which were scattered abroad upon the persecution that arose about Stephen travelled as far as Phenice, and Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to none but unto the Jews only.
20 その中にクブロ及びクレネの人、數人ありて、アンテオケに來りし時、ギリシヤ人にも語りて主イエスの福音を宣傳ふ。 And some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyrene, which, when they were come to Antioch, spake unto the Grecians, preaching the Lord Jesus.
21 主の手かれらと偕にありたれば、數多の人、信じて主に歸依せり。 And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord.
22 この事エルサレムに在る教會に聞えたれば、バルナバをアンテオケに遣す。 Then tidings of these things came unto the ears of the church which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas, that he should go as far as Antioch.
23 かれ來りて、神の恩惠を見てよろこび、彼 等に、みな心を堅くして主にをらんことを勸む。 Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord.
24 彼は聖 靈と信仰とにて滿ちたる善き人なればなり。ここに多くの人々、主に加はりたり。 For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord.
25 かくてバルナバはサウロを尋ねんとてタルソに往き、 Then departed Barnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Saul:
26 彼に逢ひてアンテオケに伴ひきたり、二人ともに一年の間かしこの教會の集會に出でて多くの人を教ふ。弟子たちのキリステアンと稱へらるる事はアンテオケより始れり。 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.
27 その頃エルサレムより預言者たちアンテオケに下る。 And in these days came prophets from Jerusalem unto Antioch.
28 その中の一人アガボと云ふもの起ちて、大なる飢饉の全世界にあるべきことを御靈によりて示せるが、果してクラウデオの時に起れり。 And there stood up one of them named Agabus, and signified by the spirit that there should be great dearth throughout all the world: which came to pass in the days of Claudius Cesar.
29 ここに弟子たち各々の力に應じてユダヤに住む兄弟たちに扶助をおくらん事をさだめ、 Then the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren which dwelt in Judea:
30 遂に之をおこなひ、バルナバ及びサウロの手に托して長老たちに贈れり。 Which also they did, and sent it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.
