1 キリスト肉體にて苦難を受け給ひたれば、汝らも亦おなじ心をもて自ら鎧へ。――肉體にて苦難を受くる者は罪を止むるなり―― Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;
2 これ今よりのち、人の慾に從はず、神の御意に從ひて、肉體に寓れる殘の時を過さん爲なり。 That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.
3 なんぢら過ぎにし日は、異邦人の好む所をおこなひ、好色・慾 情・酩酊・宴樂・暴飮・律法にかなはぬ偶像 崇拜に歩みて、もはや足れり。 For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries:
4 彼らは汝らの己とともに放蕩の極に走らぬを怪しみて譏るなり。 Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:
5 彼らは生ける者と死にたる者とを審く準備をなし給へる者に己のことを陳ぶべし。 Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead.
6 福音の死にたる者に宣傅へられしは、彼らが肉體にて人のごとく審かれ、靈にて神のごとく生きん爲なり。 For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.
7 萬の物のをはり近づけり、然れば汝ら心を慥にし、愼みて祈せよ。 But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.
8 何事よりも先づ互に熱く相 愛せよ。愛は多くの罪を掩へばなり。 And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.
9 また吝むことなく互に懇ろに待せ。 Use hospitality one to another without grudging.
10 神のさまざまの恩惠を掌どる善き家 司のごとく、各人その受けし賜物をもて互に事へよ。 As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
11 もし語るならば、神の言をかたる者のごとく語り、事ふるならば、神の與へたまふ能力を受けたる者のごとく事へよ。是イエス・キリストによりて事々に神の崇められ給はん爲なり。榮光と權力とは世々 限りなく彼に歸するなり、アァメン。 If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
12 愛する者よ、汝らを試みんとて來れる火のごとき試煉を異なる事として怪しまず、 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:
13 反つてキリストの苦難に與れば、與るほど喜べ、なんぢら彼の榮光の顯れん時にも喜び樂しまん爲なり。 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.
14 もし汝 等キリストの名のために謗られなば幸福なり。榮光の御靈すなはち神の御靈なんじらの上に留り給へばなり。 If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.
15 汝 等のうち誰にても或は殺人、あるひは盜人、あるひは惡を行ふ者、あるひは妄に他人の事に干渉する者となりて苦難に遭ふな。 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters.
16 されど若しキリステアンたるをもて苦難を受けなば、之を恥づることなく、反つて此の名によりて神を崇めよ。 Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.
17 既に時いたれり、審判は神の家より始るべし。まづ我等より始るとせば、神の福音に從はざる者のその結局は如何にぞや。 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?
18 義人もし辛うじて救はるるならば、不 敬虔なるもの、罪ある者は何處にか立たん。 And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?
19 されば神の御意に從ひて苦難を受くる者は、善を行ひて己が靈魂を眞實なる造物主にゆだね奉るべし。 Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.
