1 ここにイエス群衆と弟子たちとに語りて言ひ給ふ、 Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples,
2 『學者とパリサイ人とはモーセの座を占む。 Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat:
3 されば凡てその言ふ所は守りて行へ、されどその所作には效ふな、彼らは言ふのみにて行はぬなり。 All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.
4 また重き荷を括りて人の肩にのせ、己は指にて之を動かさんともせず。 For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.
5 凡てその所作は人に見られん爲にするなり。即ちその經札を幅ひろくし、衣の總を大くし、 But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,
6 饗宴の上席、會堂の上座、 And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,
7 市場にての敬禮、また人にラビと呼ばるることを好む。 And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.
8 されど汝らはラビの稱を受くな、汝らの師は一人にして、汝 等はみな兄弟なり。 But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren.
9 地にある者を父と呼ぶな、汝らの父は一人、すなはち天に在す者なり。 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
10 また導師の稱を受くな、汝らの導師はひとり、即ちキリストなり。 Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ.
11 汝 等のうち大なる者は、汝らの役者とならん。 But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.
12 凡そおのれを高うする者は卑うせられ、己を卑うする者は高うせらるるなり。 And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.
13 禍害なるかな、僞善なる學者、パリサイ人よ、なんぢらは人の前に天國を閉して自ら入らず、入らんとする人の入るをも許さぬなり。 But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.
14 [なし] Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows’ houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.
15 禍害なるかな、僞善なる學者、パリサイ人よ、汝らは一人の改宗者を得んために海 陸を經めぐり、既に得れば、之を己に倍したるゲヘナの子となすなり。 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.
16 禍害なるかな、盲目なる手引よ、なんぢらは言ふ「人もし宮を指して誓はば事なし、宮の黄金を指して誓はば果さざるべからず」と。 Woe unto you, ye blind guides, which say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor!
17 愚にして盲目なる者よ、黄金と黄金を聖ならしむる宮とは孰か貴き。 Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold?
18 なんぢら又いふ「人もし祭壇を指して誓はば事なし、其の上の供物を指して誓はば果さざるべからず」と。 And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever sweareth by the gift that is upon it, he is guilty.
19 盲目なる者よ、供物と供物を聖ならしむる祭壇とは孰か貴き。 Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift?
20 されば祭壇を指して誓ふ者は、祭壇とその上の凡ての物とを指して誓ふなり。 Whoso therefore shall swear by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon.
21 宮を指して誓ふ者は、宮とその内に住みたまふ者とを指して誓ふなり。 And whoso shall swear by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein.
22 また天を指して誓ふ者は、神の御座とその上に坐したまふ者とを指して誓ふなり。 And he that shall swear by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon.
23 禍害なるかな、僞善なる學者、パリサイ人よ、汝らは薄荷・蒔蘿・クミンの十分の一を納めて、律法の中にて尤も重き公平と憐憫と忠信とを等閑にす。されど之は行ふべきものなり、而して、彼もまた等閑にすべきものならず。 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
24 盲目なる手引よ、汝らは蚋を漉し出して駱駝を呑むなり。 Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.
25 禍害なるかな、僞善なる學者、パリサイ人よ、汝らは酒杯と皿との外を潔くす、されど内は貪慾と放縱とにて滿つるなり。 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.
26 盲目なるパリサイ人よ、汝まづ酒杯の内を潔めよ、さらば外も潔くなるべし。 Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.
27 禍害なるかな、僞善なる學者、パリサイ人よ、汝らは白く塗りたる墓に似たり、外は美しく見ゆれども、内は死人の骨とさまざまの穢とにて滿つ。 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness.
28 かくのごとく汝らも外は人に正しく見ゆれども、内は僞善と不法とにて滿つるなり。 Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
29 禍害なるかな、僞善なる學者、パリサイ人よ、汝らは預言者の墓をたて、義人の碑を飾りて言ふ、 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,
30 「我らもし先祖の時にありしならば、預言者の血を流すことに與せざりしものを」と。 And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.
31 かく汝らは預言者を殺しし者の子たるを自ら證す。 Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets.
32 なんぢら己が先祖の桝目を充せ。 Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.
33 蛇よ、蝮の裔よ、なんぢら爭でゲヘナの刑罰を避け得んや。 Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?
34 この故に視よ、我なんぢらに預言者・智者・學者らを遣さんに、其の中の或 者を殺し、十字架につけ、或 者を汝らの會堂にて鞭うち、町より町に逐ひ苦しめん。 Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city:
35 之によりて義人アベルの血より、聖所と祭壇との間にて汝らが殺ししバラキヤの子ザカリヤの血に至るまで、地上にて流したる正しき血は、皆なんぢらに報い來らん。 That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.
36 まことに汝らに告ぐ、これらの事はみな今の代に報い來るべし。 Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.
37 ああエルサレム、エルサレム、預言者たちを殺し、遣されたる人々を石にて撃つ者よ、牝鷄のその雛を翼の下に集むるごとく、我なんぢの子どもを集めんとせしこと幾度ぞや、されど汝らは好まざりき。 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!
38 視よ、汝らの家は廢てられて汝らに遺らん。 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.
39 われ汝らに告ぐ「讃むべきかな、主の名によりて來る者」と、汝 等のいふ時の至るまでは、今より我を見ざるべし』 For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
