| 17 | されば總て世をふる事、アブラハムよりダビデまで十四代、ダビデよりバビロンに移さるるまで十四代、バビロンに移されてよりキリストまで十四代なり。 | So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations. |
| 18 | イエス・キリストの誕生は左のごとし。その母マリヤ、ヨセフと許嫁したるのみにて、未だ偕にならざりしに、聖 靈によりて孕り、その孕りたること顯れたり。 | Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. |
| 19 | 夫ヨセフは正しき人にして、之を公然にするを好まず、私に離縁せんと思ふ。 | Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily. |
| 20 | かくて、これらの事を思ひ囘らしをるとき、視よ、主の使、夢に現れて言ふ『ダビデの子ヨセフよ、妻マリヤを納るる事を恐るな。その胎に宿る者は聖 靈によるなり。 | But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. |
| 21 | かれ子を生まん、汝その名をイエスと名づくべし。己が民をその罪より救ひ給ふ故なり』 | And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. |
| 22 | すべて此の事の起りしは、預言者によりて主の云ひ給ひし言の成就せん爲なり。曰く、 | Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, |
| 23 | 『視よ、處女みごもりて子を生まん。その名はインマヌエルと稱へられん』之を釋けば、神われらと偕に在すといふ意なり。 | Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. |
| 24 | ヨセフ寐より起き、主の使の命ぜし如くして妻を納れたり。 | Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: |
| 25 | されど子の生るるまでは、相 知る事なかりき。かくてその子をイエスと名づけたり。 | And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS. |
