1 その頃また大なる群衆にて食ふべき物なかりしかば、イエス弟子たちを召して言ひ給ふ、 In those days the multitude being very great, and having nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples unto him, and saith unto them,
2 『われ此の群衆を憫む、既に三日われと偕にをりて、食ふべき物なし。 I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now been with me three days, and have nothing to eat:
3 飢ゑしままにて其の家に歸らしめば、途にて疲れ果てん。其の中には遠くより來れる者あり』 And if I send them away fasting to their own houses, they will faint by the way: for divers of them came from far.
4 弟子たち答へて言ふ『この寂しき地にては、何處よりパンを得て、この人々を飽かしむべき』 And his disciples answered him, From whence can a man satisfy these men with bread here in the wilderness?
5 イエス問ひ給ふ『パン幾つあるか』答へて『七つ』といふ。 And he asked them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven.
6 イエス群衆に命じて地に坐せしめ、七つのパンを取り、謝して之を裂き、弟子たちに與へて群衆の前におかしむ。弟子たち乃ちその前におく。 And he commanded the people to sit down on the ground: and he took the seven loaves, and gave thanks, and brake, and gave to his disciples to set before them; and they did set them before the people.
7 また小き魚すこしばかりあり、祝して、之をもその前におけと言ひ給ふ。 And they had a few small fishes: and he blessed, and commanded to set them also before them.
8 人々 食ひて飽き、裂きたる餘を拾ひしに、七つの籃に滿ちたり。 So they did eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets.
9 その人おほよそ四千 人なりき。イエス彼らを歸し、 And they that had eaten were about four thousand: and he sent them away.
10 直ちに弟子たちと共に舟に乘りて、ダルマヌタの地方に往き給へり。 And straightway he entered into a ship with his disciples, and came into the parts of Dalmanutha.
11 パリサイ人いで來りて、イエスと論じはじめ、之を試みて天よりの徴をもとむ。 And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with him, seeking of him a sign from heaven, tempting him.
12 イエス心に深く歎じて言ひ給ふ『なにゆゑ今の代は徴を求むるか、まことに汝らに告ぐ、徴は今の代に斷えて與へられじ』 And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith, Why doth this generation seek after a sign? verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this generation.
13 かくて彼らを離れ、また舟に乘りて彼方に往き給ふ。 And he left them, and entering into the ship again departed to the other side.
14 弟子たちパンを携ふることを忘れ、舟には唯一つの他パンなかりき。 Now the disciples had forgotten to take bread, neither had they in the ship with them more than one loaf.
15 イエス彼らを戒めて言ひたまふ『愼みて、パリサイ人のパンだねと、ヘロデのパンだねとに心せよ』 And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod.
16 弟子たち互に、これはパン無き故ならんと語り合ふ。 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have no bread.
17 イエス知りて言ひたまふ『何ぞパン無き故ならんと語り合ふか、未だ知らぬか、悟らぬか、汝らの心なほ鈍きか。 And when Jesus knew it, he saith unto them, Why reason ye, because ye have no bread? perceive ye not yet, neither understand? have ye your heart yet hardened?
18 目ありて見ぬか、耳ありて聽かぬか。又なんぢら思ひ出でぬか、 Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember?
19 五つのパンを裂きて、五 千 人に與へし時、その餘を幾筐ひろひしか』弟子たち言ふ『十二』 When I brake the five loaves among five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? They say unto him, Twelve.
20 『七つのパンを裂きて四千 人に與へし時、その餘を幾籃ひろひしか』弟子たち言ふ『七つ』 And when the seven among four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? And they said, Seven.
21 イエス言ひたまふ『未だ悟らぬか』 And he said unto them, How is it that ye do not understand?
22 彼ら遂にベツサイダに到る。人々、盲人をイエスに連れ來りて、觸り給はんことを願ふ。 And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and besought him to touch him.
23 イエス盲人の手をとりて、村の外に連れ往き、その目に唾し、御手をあてて『なにか見ゆるか』と問ひ給へば、 And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought.
24 見 上げて言ふ『人を見る、それは樹の如き物の歩くが見ゆ』 And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.
25 また御手をその目にあて給へば、視凝めたるに、癒えて凡てのもの明かに見えたり。 After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly.
26 かくて『村にも入るな』と言ひて、その家に歸し給へり。 And he sent him away to his house, saying, Neither go into the town, nor tell it to any in the town.
27 イエス其の弟子たちとピリポ・カイザリヤの村々に出でゆき、途にて弟子たちに問ひて言ひたまふ『人々は我を誰と言ふか』 And Jesus went out, and his disciples, into the towns of Cesarea Philippi: and by the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Whom do men say that I am?
28 答へて言ふ『バプテスマのヨハネ、或 人はエリヤ、或 人は預言者の一人』 And they answered, John the Baptist: but some say, Elias; and others, One of the prophets.
29 また問ひ給ふ『なんぢらは我を誰と言ふか』ペテロ答へて言ふ『なんぢはキリストなり』 And he saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ.
30 イエス己がことを誰にも告ぐなと、彼らを戒め給ふ。 And he charged them that they should tell no man of him.
31 かくて人の子の必ず多くの苦難をうけ、長老・祭司長・學者らに棄てられ、かつ殺され、三日の後に甦へるべき事を教へはじめ、 And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.
32 此の事をあらはに語り給ふ。ここにペテロ、イエスを傍にひきて戒め出でたれば、 And he spake that saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him.
33 イエス振反りて弟子たちを見、ペテロを戒めて言ひ給ふ『サタンよ、わが後に退け、汝は神のことを思はず、反つて人のことを思ふ』 But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men.
34 かくて群衆を弟子たちと共に呼び寄せて言ひたまふ『人もし我に從ひ來らんと思はば、己をすて、己が十字架を負ひて我に從へ。 And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
35 己が生命を救はんと思ふ者は、これを失ひ、我が爲また福音の爲に己が生命をうしなふ者は、之を救はん。 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it.
36 人、全世界を贏くとも、己が生命を損せば、何の益あらん、 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
37 人その生命の代に何を與へんや。 Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
38 不義なる罪 深き今の代にて、我または我が言を恥づる者をば、人の子もまた、父の榮光をもて、聖なる御使たちと共に來らん時に恥づべし』 Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.
