1 されば何をか言はん、恩惠の増さんために罪のうちに止るべきか、 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
2 決して然らず、罪に就きて死にたる我らは爭で尚その中に生きんや。 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
3 なんじら知らぬか、凡そキリスト・イエスに合ふバプテスマを受けたる我らは、その死に合ふバプテスマを受けしを。 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
4 我らはバプテスマによりて彼とともに葬られ、その死に合せられたり。これキリスト父の榮光によりて死人の中より甦へらせられ給ひしごとく、我らも新しき生命に歩まんためなり。 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
5 我らキリストに接がれて、その死の状にひとしくば、その復活にも等しかるべし。 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
6 我らは知る、われらの舊き人、キリストと共に十字架につけられたるは、罪の體ほろびて、此ののち罪に事へざらん爲なるを。 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
7 そは死にし者は罪より脱るるなり。 For he that is dead is freed from sin.
8 我等もしキリストと共に死にしならば、また彼とともに活きんことを信ず。 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:
9 キリスト死人の中より甦へりて復 死に給はず、死もまた彼に主とならぬを我ら知ればなり。 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.
10 その死に給へるは罪につきて一たび死に給へるにて、その活き給へるは神につきて活き給へるなり。 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
11 斯くのごとく汝らも己を罪につきては死にたるもの、神につきては、キリスト・イエスに在りて活きたる者と思ふべし。 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
12 されば罪を汝らの死ぬべき體に王たらしめて其の慾に從ふことなく、 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
13 汝らの肢體を罪に献げて不義の器となさず、反つて死人の中より活き返りたる者のごとく己を神にささげ、その肢體を義の器として神に献げよ。 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
14 汝らは律法の下にあらずして恩惠の下にあれば、罪は汝らに主となる事なきなり。 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
15 然らば如何に、我らは律法の下にあらず、恩惠の下にあるが故に、罪を犯すべきか、決して然らず。 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.
16 なんぢら知らぬか、己を献げ僕となりて、誰に從ふとも其の僕たることを。或は罪の僕となりて死に至り、或は從順の僕となりて義に至る。 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
17 然れど神に感謝す、汝 等はもと罪の僕なりしが、傳へられし教の範に心より從ひ、 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
18 罪より解放されて義の僕となりたり。 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
19 斯く人の事をかりて言ふは、汝らの肉よわき故なり。なんぢら舊その肢體をささげ、穢と不法との僕となりて不法に到りしごとく、今その肢體をささげ、義の僕となりて潔に到れ。 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.
20 なんぢら罪の僕たりしときは義に對して自由なりき。 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.
21 その時に今は恥とする所の事によりて何の實を得しか、これらの事の極は死なり。 What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.
22 然れど今は罪より解放されて神の僕となりたれば、潔にいたる實を得たり、その極は永遠の生命なり。 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
23 それ罪の拂ふ價は死なり、然れど神の賜物は我らの主キリスト・イエスにありて受くる永遠の生命なり。 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
