1 されど汝これを知れ、末の世に苦しき時きたらん。 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 人々おのれを愛する者・金を愛する者・誇るもの・高ぶる者・罵るもの・父 母に逆ふもの・恩を忘るる者・潔からぬ者、 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 無情なる者・怨を解かぬ者・譏る者・節制なき者・殘刻なる者・善を好まぬ者、 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 友を賣る者・放縱なる者・傲慢なる者・神よりも快樂を愛する者、 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5 敬虔の貌をとりてその徳を捨つる者とならん、斯かる類の者を避けよ。 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
6 彼らの中には人の家に潜り入りて愚なる女を虜にする者あり、斯くせらるる女は罪を積み重ねて各樣の慾に引かれ、 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
7 常に學べども眞理を知る知識に至ること能はず。 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
8 彼の者らはヤンネとヤンブレとがモーセに逆ひし如く、眞理に逆ふもの、心の腐れたる者、また信仰につきて棄てられたる者なり。 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.
9 されど此の上になほ進むこと能はじ、そはかの二人のごとく彼らの愚なる事も亦すべての人に顯るべければなり。 But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was.
10 汝は我が教誨・品行・志望・信仰・寛容・愛・忍耐・迫害、および苦難を知り、 But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience,
11 またアンテオケ、イコニオム、ルステラにて起りし事、わが如何なる迫害を忍びしかを知る。主は凡てこれらの中より我を救ひ出したまへり。 Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me.
12 凡そキリスト・イエスに在りて敬虔をもて一生を過さんと欲する者は迫害を受くべし。 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
13 惡しき人と人を欺く者とは、ますます惡にすすみ、人を惑し、また人に惑されん。 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
14 されど汝は學びて確信したる所に常に居れ。なんぢ誰より之を學びしかを知り、 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;
15 また幼き時より聖なる書を識りし事を知ればなり。この書はキリスト・イエスを信ずる信仰によりて救に至らしむる知慧を汝に與へ得るなり。 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16 聖書はみな神の感動によるものにして、教誨と譴責と矯正と義を薫陶するとに益あり。 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 これ神の人の全くなりて諸般の善き業に備を全うせん爲なり。 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
