1 我は自主の者ならずや、使徒にあらずや、我らの主イエスを見しにあらずや、汝らは主に在りて我が業ならずや。 Am I not an apostle? am I not free? have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord? are not ye my work in the Lord?
2 われ他の人には使徒ならずとも汝らには使徒なり。汝らは主にありて我が使徒たる職の印なればなり。 If I be not an apostle unto others, yet doubtless I am to you: for the seal of mine apostleship are ye in the Lord.
3 われを審く者に對する我が辯明は斯くのごとし。 Mine answer to them that do examine me is this,
4 我らは飮食する權なきか。 Have we not power to eat and to drink?
5 我らは他の使徒たち主の兄弟たち及びケパのごとく、姉妹たる妻を携ふる權なきか。 Have we not power to lead about a sister, a wife, as well as other apostles, and as the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas?
6 ただ我とバルナバとのみ工を止むる權なきか。 Or I only and Barnabas, have not we power to forbear working?
7 誰か己の財にて兵卒を務むる者あらんや。誰か葡萄畑を作りてその果を食はぬ者あらんや。誰か群を牧ひてその乳を飮まぬ者あらんや。 Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock?
8 我ただ人の思にのみ由りて此 等のことを言はんや、律法も亦かく言ふにあらずや。 Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also?
9 モーセの律法に『穀物を碾す牛には口籠を繋くべからず』と録したり。神は牛のために慮ぱかり給へるか、 For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen?
10 また專ら我等のために之を言ひ給ひしか、然り、我らのために録されたり。それ耕す者は望をもて耕し、穀物をこなす者は之に與る望をもて碾すべきなり。 Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope.
11 もし我ら靈の物を汝らに蒔きしならば、汝らの肉の物を刈り取るは過分ならんや。 If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things?
12 もし他の人なんぢらに對してこの權あらんには、まして我らをや。然れど我等はこの權を用ひざりき。唯キリストの福音に障碍なきやうに一切のことを忍ぶなり。 If others be partakers of this power over you, are not we rather? Nevertheless we have not used this power; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ.
13 なんぢら知らぬか、聖なる事を務むる者は宮のものを食し、祭壇に事ふる者は祭壇のものに與るを。 Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things live of the things of the temple? and they which wait at the altar are partakers with the altar?
14 斯くのごとく主もまた福音を宣傳ふる者の福音によりて生活すべきことを定め給へり。 Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel.
15 されど我は此 等のことを一つだに用ひし事なし、また自ら斯くせられんために之を書き贈るにあらず、斯くせられんよりは寧ろ死ぬるを善しとすればなり。誰もわが誇を空しくせざるべし。 But I have used none of these things: neither have I written these things, that it should be so done unto me: for it were better for me to die, than that any man should make my glorying void.
16 われ福音を宣傳ふとも誇るべき所なし、已むを得ざるなり。もし福音を宣傳へずば、我は禍害なるかな。 For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!
17 若しわれ心より之をなさば報を得ん、たとひ心ならずとも我はその務を委ねられたり。 For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me.
18 然らば我が報は何ぞ、福音を宣傳ふるに、人をして費なく福音を得しめ、而も福音によりて我が有てる權を用ひ盡さぬこと是なり。 What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.
19 われ凡ての人に對して自主の者なれど、更に多くの人を得んために、自ら凡ての人の奴隷となれり。 For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.
20 我ユダヤ人にはユダヤ人の如くなれり、これユダヤ人を得んが爲なり。律法の下にある者には――律法の下に我はあらねど――律法の下にある者の如くなれり。これ律法の下にある者を得んが爲なり。 And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law;
21 律法なき者には――われ神に向ひて律法なきにあらず、反つてキリストの律法の下にあれど――律法なき者の如くなれり、これ律法なき者を得んがためなり。 To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law.
22 弱き者には弱き者となれり、これ弱き者を得んためなり。我すべての人には凡ての人の状に從へり、これ如何にもして幾許かの人を救はんためなり。 To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.
23 われ福音のために凡ての事をなす、これ我も共に福音に與らん爲なり。 And this I do for the gospel’s sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.
24 なんぢら知らぬか、馳場を走る者はみな走れども、褒美を得る者の、ただ一人なるを。汝らも得んために斯く走れ。 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.
25 すべて勝を爭ふ者は何事をも節し愼む、彼らは朽つる冠冕を得んが爲なれど、我らは朽ちぬ冠冕を得んがために之をなすなり。 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.
26 斯く我が走るは目標なきが如きにあらず、我が拳鬪するは空を撃つが如きにあらず。 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:
27 わが體を打ち擲きて之を服從せしむ。恐らくは他人に宣傳へて自ら棄てらるる事あらん。 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.
