|---|---|---|
Wise children pay attention when their parents correct them, but arrogant people never admit they are wrong. | A wise son heareth his father’s instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.
Good people will be rewarded for what they say, but those who are deceitful are hungry for violence. | A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.
Be careful what you say and protect your life. A careless talker destroys himself. | He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.
No matter how much a lazy person may want something, he will never get it. A hard worker will get everything he wants. | The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.
Honest people hate lies, but the words of wicked people are shameful and disgraceful. | A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame.
Righteousness protects the innocent; wickedness is the downfall of sinners. | Righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.
Some people pretend to be rich, but have nothing. Others pretend to be poor, but own a fortune. | There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.
The rich have to use their money to save their lives, but no one threatens the poor. | The ransom of a man’s life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke.
The righteous are like a light shining brightly; the wicked are like a lamp flickering out. | The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.
Arrogance causes nothing but trouble. It is wiser to ask for advice. | Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.
The more easily you get your wealth, the sooner you will lose it. The harder it is to earn, the more you will have. | Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.
When hope is crushed, the heart is crushed, but a wish come true fills you with joy. | Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.
If you refuse good advice, you are asking for trouble; follow it and you are safe. | Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.
The teachings of the wise are a fountain of life; they will help you escape when your life is in danger. | The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.
Intelligence wins respect, but those who can't be trusted are on the road to ruin. | Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.
Sensible people always think before they act, but stupid people advertise their ignorance. | Every prudent man dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open his folly.
Unreliable messengers cause trouble, but those who can be trusted bring peace. | A wicked messenger falleth into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health.
Someone who will not learn will be poor and disgraced. Anyone who listens to correction is respected. | Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.
How good it is to get what you want! Stupid people refuse to turn away from evil. | The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil.
Keep company with the wise and you will become wise. If you make friends with stupid people, you will be ruined. | He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.
Trouble follows sinners everywhere, but righteous people will be rewarded with good things. | Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed.
Good people will have wealth to leave to their grandchildren, but the wealth of sinners will go to the righteous. | A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.
Unused fields could yield plenty of food for the poor, but unjust people keep them from being farmed. | Much food is in the tillage of the poor: but there is that is destroyed for want of judgment.
If you don't punish your children, you don't love them. If you do love them, you will correct them. | He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.
The righteous have enough to eat, but the wicked are always hungry. | The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want.
