— Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said,

Bildad
Are you finally through with your windy speech?
How long wilt thou speak these things? and how long shall the words of thy mouth be like a strong wind?
God never twists justice; he never fails to do what is right. Doth God pervert judgment? or doth the Almighty pervert justice?
Your children must have sinned against God, and so he punished them as they deserved. If thy children have sinned against him, and he have cast them away for their transgression;
But turn now and plead with Almighty God; If thou wouldest seek unto God betimes, and make thy supplication to the Almighty;
if you are so honest and pure, then God will come and help you and restore your household as your reward. If thou wert pure and upright; surely now he would awake for thee, and make the habitation of thy righteousness prosperous.
All the wealth you lost will be nothing compared with what God will give you then. Though thy beginning was small, yet thy latter end should greatly increase.
Look for a moment at ancient wisdom; consider the truths our ancestors learned. For enquire, I pray thee, of the former age, and prepare thyself to the search of their fathers:
Our life is short, we know nothing at all; we pass like shadows across the earth. (For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow:)
But let the ancient wise people teach you; listen to what they had to say: Shall not they teach thee, and tell thee, and utter words out of their heart?
“Reeds can't grow where there is no water; they are never found outside a swamp. Can the rush grow up without mire? can the flag grow without water?
If the water dries up, they are the first to wither, while still too small to be cut and used. Whilst it is yet in his greenness, and not cut down, it withereth before any other herb.
Godless people are like those reeds; their hope is gone, once God is forgotten. So are the paths of all that forget God; and the hypocrite’s hope shall perish:
They trust a thread—a spider's web. Whose hope shall be cut off, and whose trust shall be a spider’s web.
If they lean on a web, will it hold them up? If they grab for a thread, will it help them stand?” He shall lean upon his house, but it shall not stand: he shall hold it fast, but it shall not endure.
Evil people sprout like weeds in the sun, like weeds that spread all through the garden. He is green before the sun, and his branch shooteth forth in his garden.
Their roots wrap around the stones and hold fast to every rock. His roots are wrapped about the heap, and seeth the place of stones.
But then pull them up— no one will ever know they were there. If he destroy him from his place, then it shall deny him, saying, I have not seen thee.
Yes, that's all the joy evil people have; others now come and take their places. Behold, this is the joy of his way, and out of the earth shall others grow.
But God will never abandon the faithful or ever give help to evil people. Behold, God will not cast away a perfect man, neither will he help the evil doers:
He will let you laugh and shout again, Till he fill thy mouth with laughing, and thy lips with rejoicing.
but he will bring disgrace on those who hate you, and the homes of the wicked will vanish. They that hate thee shall be clothed with shame; and the dwelling place of the wicked shall come to nought.
