Jesus and the Samaritan Woman
The Pharisees heard that Jesus was winning and baptizing more disciples than John. (
When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John,
Actually, Jesus himself did not baptize anyone; only his disciples did.) (Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,)
So when Jesus heard what was being said, he left Judea and went back to Galilee; He left Judea, and departed again into Galilee.
on his way there he had to go through Samaria. And he must needs go through Samaria.
In Samaria he came to a town named Sychar, which was not far from the field that Jacob had given to his son Joseph. Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.
Jacob's well was there, and Jesus, tired out by the trip, sat down by the well. It was about noon. Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour.
A Samaritan woman came to draw some water, and Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink of water.” ( There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.
His disciples had gone into town to buy food.) (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.)
The woman answered, “You are a Jew, and I am a Samaritan—so how can you ask me for a drink?” (Jews will not use the same cups and bowls that Samaritans use.) Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.
Jesus answered, “If you only knew what God gives and who it is that is asking you for a drink, you would ask him, and he would give you life-giving water.” Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.
“Sir,” the woman said, “you don't have a bucket, and the well is deep. Where would you get that life-giving water? The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?
It was our ancestor Jacob who gave us this well; he and his children and his flocks all drank from it. You don't claim to be greater than Jacob, do you?” Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?
Jesus answered, “Those who drink this water will get thirsty again, Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:
but those who drink the water that I will give them will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give them will become in them a spring which will provide them with life-giving water and give them eternal life.” But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
“Sir,” the woman said, “give me that water! Then I will never be thirsty again, nor will I have to come here to draw water.” The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.
“Go and call your husband,” Jesus told her, “and come back.” Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.
“I don't have a husband,” she answered. Jesus replied, “You are right when you say you don't have a husband. The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband:
You have been married to five men, and the man you live with now is not really your husband. You have told me the truth.” For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly.
“I see you are a prophet, sir,” the woman said. The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.
“My Samaritan ancestors worshiped God on this mountain, but you Jews say that Jerusalem is the place where we should worship God.” Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.
Jesus said to her, “Believe me, woman, the time will come when people will not worship the Father either on this mountain or in Jerusalem. Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.
You Samaritans do not really know whom you worship; but we Jews know whom we worship, because it is from the Jews that salvation comes. Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.
But the time is coming and is already here, when by the power of God's Spirit people will worship the Father as he really is, offering him the true worship that he wants. But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
God is Spirit, and only by the power of his Spirit can people worship him as he really is.” God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
The woman said to him, “I know that the Messiah will come, and when he comes, he will tell us everything.” The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.
Jesus answered, “I am he, I who am talking with you.” Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.
At that moment Jesus' disciples returned, and they were greatly surprised to find him talking with a woman. But none of them said to her, “What do you want?” or asked him, “Why are you talking with her?” And upon this came his disciples, and marvelled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her?
Then the woman left her water jar, went back to the town, and said to the people there, The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men,
“Come and see the man who told me everything I have ever done. Could he be the Messiah?” Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?
So they left the town and went to Jesus. Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.
In the meantime the disciples were begging Jesus, “Teacher, have something to eat!” In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat.
But he answered, “I have food to eat that you know nothing about.” But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of.
So the disciples started asking among themselves, “Could somebody have brought him food?” Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat?
“My food,” Jesus said to them, “is to obey the will of the one who sent me and to finish the work he gave me to do. Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.
You have a saying, ‘Four more months and then the harvest.’ But I tell you, take a good look at the fields; the crops are now ripe and ready to be harvested! Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.
The one who reaps the harvest is being paid and gathers the crops for eternal life; so the one who plants and the one who reaps will be glad together. And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.
For the saying is true, ‘Someone plants, someone else reaps.’ And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth.
I have sent you to reap a harvest in a field where you did not work; others worked there, and you profit from their work.” I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours.
Many of the Samaritans in that town believed in Jesus because the woman had said, “He told me everything I have ever done.” And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did.
So when the Samaritans came to him, they begged him to stay with them, and Jesus stayed there two days. So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days.
Many more believed because of his message, And many more believed because of his own word;
and they told the woman, “We believe now, not because of what you said, but because we ourselves have heard him, and we know that he really is the Savior of the world.” And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.

Jesus Heals an Official's Son
After spending two days there, Jesus left and went to Galilee.
Now after two days he departed thence, and went into Galilee.
For he himself had said, “Prophets are not respected in their own country.” For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honour in his own country.
When he arrived in Galilee, the people there welcomed him, because they had gone to the Passover Festival in Jerusalem and had seen everything that he had done during the festival. Then when he was come into Galilee, the Galileans received him, having seen all the things that he did at Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went unto the feast.
Then Jesus went back to Cana in Galilee, where he had turned the water into wine. A government official was there whose son was sick in Capernaum. So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum.
When he heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went to him and asked him to go to Capernaum and heal his son, who was about to die. When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judea into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death.
Jesus said to him, “None of you will ever believe unless you see miracles and wonders.” Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.
“Sir,” replied the official, “come with me before my child dies.” The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die.
Jesus said to him, “Go; your son will live!” The man believed Jesus' words and went. Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way.
On his way home his servants met him with the news, “Your boy is going to live!” And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Thy son liveth.
He asked them what time it was when his son got better, and they answered, “It was one o'clock yesterday afternoon when the fever left him.” Then enquired he of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.
Then the father remembered that it was at that very hour when Jesus had told him, “Your son will live.” So he and all his family believed. So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house.
This was the second miracle that Jesus performed after coming from Judea to Galilee. This is again the second miracle that Jesus did, when he was come out of Judea into Galilee.
