1
The Wedding in Cana
Two days later there was a wedding in the town of Cana in Galilee. Jesus' mother was there,
And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there:
2 and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage.
3 When the wine had given out, Jesus' mother said to him, “They are out of wine.” And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine.
4 “You must not tell me what to do,” Jesus replied. “My time has not yet come.” Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.
5 Jesus' mother then told the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.
6 The Jews have rules about ritual washing, and for this purpose six stone water jars were there, each one large enough to hold between twenty and thirty gallons. And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece.
7 Jesus said to the servants, “Fill these jars with water.” They filled them to the brim, Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.
8 and then he told them, “Now draw some water out and take it to the man in charge of the feast.” They took him the water, And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it.
9 which now had turned into wine, and he tasted it. He did not know where this wine had come from (but, of course, the servants who had drawn out the water knew); so he called the bridegroom When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom,
10 and said to him, “Everyone else serves the best wine first, and after the guests have drunk a lot, he serves the ordinary wine. But you have kept the best wine until now!” And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.
11 Jesus performed this first miracle in Cana in Galilee; there he revealed his glory, and his disciples believed in him. This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.
12 After this, Jesus and his mother, brothers, and disciples went to Capernaum and stayed there a few days. (,; ; ,) After this he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his brethren, and his disciples: and they continued there not many days.
13
Jesus Goes to the Temple
It was almost time for the Passover Festival, so Jesus went to Jerusalem.
And the Jews’ passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem,
14 There in the Temple he found people selling cattle, sheep, and pigeons, and also the moneychangers sitting at their tables. And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting:
15 So he made a whip from cords and drove all the animals out of the Temple, both the sheep and the cattle; he overturned the tables of the moneychangers and scattered their coins; And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers’ money, and overthrew the tables;
16 and he ordered those who sold the pigeons, “Take them out of here! Stop making my Father's house a marketplace!” And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father’s house an house of merchandise.
17 His disciples remembered that the scripture says, “My devotion to your house, O God, burns in me like a fire.” And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up.
18 The Jewish authorities came back at him with a question, “What miracle can you perform to show us that you have the right to do this?” Then answered the Jews and said unto him, What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things?
19 Jesus answered, “Tear down this Temple, and in three days I will build it again.” Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.
20 “Are you going to build it again in three days?” they asked him. “It has taken forty-six years to build this Temple!” Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days?
21 But the temple Jesus was speaking about was his body. But he spake of the temple of his body.
22 So when he was raised from death, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they believed the scripture and what Jesus had said. When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.
23
Jesus' Knowledge of Human Nature
While Jesus was in Jerusalem during the Passover Festival, many believed in him as they saw the miracles he performed.
Now when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, in the feast day, many believed in his name, when they saw the miracles which he did.
24 But Jesus did not trust himself to them, because he knew them all. But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men,
25 There was no need for anyone to tell him about them, because he himself knew what was in their hearts. And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man.
