The Scroll and the Lamb
I saw a scroll in the right hand of the one who sits on the throne; it was covered with writing on both sides and was sealed with seven seals.
And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals.
And I saw a mighty angel, who announced in a loud voice, “Who is worthy to break the seals and open the scroll?” And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof?
But there was no one in heaven or on earth or in the world below who could open the scroll and look inside it. And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon.
I cried bitterly because no one could be found who was worthy to open the scroll or look inside it. And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon.
Then one of the elders said to me, “Don't cry. Look! The Lion from Judah's tribe, the great descendant of David, has won the victory, and he can break the seven seals and open the scroll.” And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.
Then I saw a Lamb standing in the center of the throne, surrounded by the four living creatures and the elders. The Lamb appeared to have been killed. It had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God that have been sent through the whole earth. And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.
The Lamb went and took the scroll from the right hand of the one who sits on the throne. And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne.
As he did so, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each had a harp and gold bowls filled with incense, which are the prayers of God's people. And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.
They sang a new song: “You are worthy to take the scroll and to break open its seals. For you were killed, and by your sacrificial death you bought for God people from every tribe, language, nation, and race. And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;
You have made them a kingdom of priests to serve our God, and they shall rule on earth.” And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.
Again I looked, and I heard angels, thousands and millions of them! They stood around the throne, the four living creatures, and the elders, And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;
and sang in a loud voice: “The Lamb who was killed is worthy to receive power, wealth, wisdom, and strength, honor, glory, and praise!” Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.
And I heard every creature in heaven, on earth, in the world below, and in the sea—all living beings in the universe—and they were singing: “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb, be praise and honor, glory and might, forever and ever!” And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.
The four living creatures answered, “Amen!” And the elders fell down and worshiped. And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever.
