A Song of Praise How good it is to give thanks to you, O Lord, to sing in your honor, O Most High God,
It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High: |
to proclaim your constant love every morning and your faithfulness every night, | To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night,
with the music of stringed instruments and with melody on the harp. | Upon an instrument of ten strings, and upon the psaltery; upon the harp with a solemn sound.
Your mighty deeds, O Lord, make me glad; because of what you have done, I sing for joy. | For thou, Lord, hast made me glad through thy work: I will triumph in the works of thy hands.
How great are your actions, Lord! How deep are your thoughts! | O Lord, how great are thy works! and thy thoughts are very deep.
This is something a fool cannot know; someone who is stupid cannot understand: | A brutish man knoweth not; neither doth a fool understand this.
the wicked may grow like weeds, those who do wrong may prosper; yet they will be totally destroyed, | When the wicked spring as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity do flourish; it is that they shall be destroyed for ever:
because you, Lord, are supreme forever. | But thou, Lord, art most high for evermore.
We know that your enemies will die, and all the wicked will be defeated. | For, lo, thine enemies, O Lord, for, lo, thine enemies shall perish; all the workers of iniquity shall be scattered.
You have made me as strong as a wild ox; you have blessed me with happiness. | But my horn shalt thou exalt like the horn of an unicorn: I shall be anointed with fresh oil.
I have seen the defeat of my enemies and heard the cries of the wicked. | Mine eye also shall see my desire on mine enemies, and mine ears shall hear my desire of the wicked that rise up against me.
The righteous will flourish like palm trees; they will grow like the cedars of Lebanon. | The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
They are like trees planted in the house of the Lord, that flourish in the Temple of our God, | Those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God.
that still bear fruit in old age and are always green and strong. | They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing;
This shows that the Lord is just, that there is no wrong in my protector. | To shew that the Lord is upright: he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.
