A Prayer for the Nation's Restoration
Listen to us, O Shepherd of Israel; hear us, leader of your flock. Seated on your throne above the winged creatures,
Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, thou that leadest Joseph like a flock; thou that dwellest between the cherubims, shine forth.
reveal yourself to the tribes of Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh. Show us your strength; come and save us! Before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh stir up thy strength, and come and save us.
Bring us back, O God! Show us your mercy, and we will be saved! Turn us again, O God, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.
How much longer, Lord God Almighty, will you be angry with your people's prayers? O Lord God of hosts, how long wilt thou be angry against the prayer of thy people?
You have given us sorrow to eat, a large cup of tears to drink. Thou feedest them with the bread of tears; and givest them tears to drink in great measure.
You let the surrounding nations fight over our land; our enemies insult us. Thou makest us a strife unto our neighbours: and our enemies laugh among themselves.
Bring us back, Almighty God! Show us your mercy, and we will be saved! Turn us again, O God of hosts, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.
You brought a grapevine out of Egypt; you drove out other nations and planted it in their land. Thou hast brought a vine out of Egypt: thou hast cast out the heathen, and planted it.
You cleared a place for it to grow; its roots went deep, and it spread out over the whole land. Thou preparedst room before it, and didst cause it to take deep root, and it filled the land.
It covered the hills with its shade; its branches overshadowed the giant cedars. The hills were covered with the shadow of it, and the boughs thereof were like the goodly cedars.
It extended its branches to the Mediterranean Sea and as far as the Euphrates River. She sent out her boughs unto the sea, and her branches unto the river.
Why did you break down the fences around it? Now anyone passing by can steal its grapes; Why hast thou then broken down her hedges, so that all they which pass by the way do pluck her?
wild hogs trample it down, and wild animals feed on it. The boar out of the wood doth waste it, and the wild beast of the field doth devour it.
Turn to us, Almighty God! Look down from heaven at us; come and save your people! Return, we beseech thee, O God of hosts: look down from heaven, and behold, and visit this vine;
Come and save this grapevine that you planted, this young vine you made grow so strong! And the vineyard which thy right hand hath planted, and the branch that thou madest strong for thyself.
Our enemies have set it on fire and cut it down; look at them in anger and destroy them! It is burned with fire, it is cut down: they perish at the rebuke of thy countenance.
Preserve and protect the people you have chosen, the nation you made so strong. Let thy hand be upon the man of thy right hand, upon the son of man whom thou madest strong for thyself.
We will never turn away from you again; keep us alive, and we will praise you. So will not we go back from thee: quicken us, and we will call upon thy name.
Bring us back, Lord God Almighty. Show us your mercy, and we will be saved. Turn us again, O Lord God of hosts, cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.
