God and His People
Give thanks to the Lord, proclaim his greatness; tell the nations what he has done.
O give thanks unto the Lord; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people.
Sing praise to the Lord; tell the wonderful things he has done. Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him: talk ye of all his wondrous works.
Be glad that we belong to him; let all who worship him rejoice. Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the Lord.
Go to the Lord for help; and worship him continually. Seek the Lord, and his strength: seek his face evermore.
— Remember his marvellous works that he hath done; his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth;
You descendants of Abraham, his servant; you descendants of Jacob, the man he chose: remember the miracles that God performed and the judgments that he gave. O ye seed of Abraham his servant, ye children of Jacob his chosen.
The Lord is our God; his commands are for all the world. He is the Lord our God: his judgments are in all the earth.
He will keep his covenant forever, his promises for a thousand generations. He hath remembered his covenant for ever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations.
He will keep the agreement he made with Abraham and his promise to Isaac. Which covenant he made with Abraham, and his oath unto Isaac;
The Lord made a covenant with Jacob, one that will last forever. And confirmed the same unto Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant:
“I will give you the land of Canaan,” he said. “It will be your own possession.” Saying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance:
God's people were few in number, strangers in the land of Canaan. When they were but a few men in number; yea, very few, and strangers in it.
They wandered from country to country, from one kingdom to another. When they went from one nation to another, from one kingdom to another people;
But God let no one oppress them; to protect them, he warned the kings: He suffered no man to do them wrong: yea, he reproved kings for their sakes;
“Don't harm my chosen servants; do not touch my prophets.” Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.
The Lord sent famine to their country and took away all their food. Moreover he called for a famine upon the land: he brake the whole staff of bread.
But he sent a man ahead of them, Joseph, who had been sold as a slave. He sent a man before them, even Joseph, who was sold for a servant:
His feet were kept in chains, and an iron collar was around his neck, Whose feet they hurt with fetters: he was laid in iron:
until what he had predicted came true. The word of the Lord proved him right. Until the time that his word came: the word of the Lord tried him.
Then the king of Egypt had him released; the ruler of nations set him free. The king sent and loosed him; even the ruler of the people, and let him go free.
He put him in charge of his government and made him ruler over all the land, He made him lord of his house, and ruler of all his substance:
with power over the king's officials and authority to instruct his advisers. To bind his princes at his pleasure; and teach his senators wisdom.
Then Jacob went to Egypt and settled in that country. Israel also came into Egypt; and Jacob sojourned in the land of Ham.
The Lord gave many children to his people and made them stronger than their enemies. And he increased his people greatly; and made them stronger than their enemies.
He made the Egyptians hate his people and treat his servants with deceit. He turned their heart to hate his people, to deal subtilly with his servants.
Then he sent his servant Moses, and Aaron, whom he had chosen. He sent Moses his servant; and Aaron whom he had chosen.
They did God's mighty acts and performed miracles in Egypt. They shewed his signs among them, and wonders in the land of Ham.
God sent darkness on the country, but the Egyptians did not obey his command. He sent darkness, and made it dark; and they rebelled not against his word.
He turned their rivers into blood and killed all their fish. He turned their waters into blood, and slew their fish.
Their country was overrun with frogs; even the palace was filled with them. Their land brought forth frogs in abundance, in the chambers of their kings.
God commanded, and flies and gnats swarmed throughout the whole country. He spake, and there came divers sorts of flies, and lice in all their coasts.
He sent hail and lightning on their land instead of rain; He gave them hail for rain, and flaming fire in their land.
he destroyed their grapevines and fig trees and broke down all the trees. He smote their vines also and their fig trees; and brake the trees of their coasts.
He commanded, and the locusts came, countless millions of them; He spake, and the locusts came, and caterpillers, and that without number,
they ate all the plants in the land; they ate all the crops. And did eat up all the herbs in their land, and devoured the fruit of their ground.
He killed the first-born sons of all the families of Egypt. He smote also all the firstborn in their land, the chief of all their strength.
Then he led the Israelites out; they carried silver and gold, and all of them were healthy and strong. He brought them forth also with silver and gold: and there was not one feeble person among their tribes.
The Egyptians were afraid of them and were glad when they left. Egypt was glad when they departed: for the fear of them fell upon them.
God put a cloud over his people and a fire at night to give them light. He spread a cloud for a covering; and fire to give light in the night.
They asked, and he sent quails; he gave them food from heaven to satisfy them. The people asked, and he brought quails, and satisfied them with the bread of heaven.
He opened a rock, and water gushed out, flowing through the desert like a river. He opened the rock, and the waters gushed out; they ran in the dry places like a river.
He remembered his sacred promise to Abraham his servant. For he remembered his holy promise, and Abraham his servant.
So he led his chosen people out, and they sang and shouted for joy. And he brought forth his people with joy, and his chosen with gladness:
He gave them the lands of other peoples and let them take over their fields, And gave them the lands of the heathen: and they inherited the labour of the people;
so that his people would obey his laws and keep all his commands. Praise the Lord! That they might observe his statutes, and keep his laws. Praise ye the Lord.
