1
Jesus Speaks of the Destruction of the Temple
Jesus left and was going away from the Temple when his disciples came to him to call his attention to its buildings.
And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple.
2 “Yes,” he said, “you may well look at all these. I tell you this: not a single stone here will be left in its place; every one of them will be thrown down.” (; ) And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.
3
Troubles and Persecutions
As Jesus sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him in private. “Tell us when all this will be,” they asked, “and what will happen to show that it is the time for your coming and the end of the age.”
And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?
4 Jesus answered, “Watch out, and do not let anyone fool you. And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
5 Many men, claiming to speak for me, will come and say, ‘I am the Messiah!’ and they will fool many people. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
6 You are going to hear the noise of battles close by and the news of battles far away; but do not be troubled. Such things must happen, but they do not mean that the end has come. And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
7 Countries will fight each other; kingdoms will attack one another. There will be famines and earthquakes everywhere. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
8 All these things are like the first pains of childbirth. All these are the beginning of sorrows.
9 “Then you will be arrested and handed over to be punished and be put to death. Everyone will hate you because of me. Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake.
10 Many will give up their faith at that time; they will betray one another and hate one another. And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.
11 Then many false prophets will appear and fool many people. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
12 Such will be the spread of evil that many people's love will grow cold. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
13 But whoever holds out to the end will be saved. But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
14 And this Good News about the Kingdom will be preached through all the world for a witness to all people; and then the end will come. (; ) And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.
15
The Awful Horror
“You will see ‘The Awful Horror’ of which the prophet Daniel spoke. It will be standing in the holy place.” (Note to the reader: understand what this means!)
When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)
16 “Then those who are in Judea must run away to the hills. Then let them which be in Judea flee into the mountains:
17 Someone who is on the roof of a house must not take the time to go down and get any belongings from the house. Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house:
18 Someone who is in the field must not go back to get a cloak. Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes.
19 How terrible it will be in those days for women who are pregnant and for mothers with little babies! And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!
20 Pray to God that you will not have to run away during the winter or on a Sabbath! But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:
21 For the trouble at that time will be far more terrible than any there has ever been, from the beginning of the world to this very day. Nor will there ever be anything like it again. For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
22 But God has already reduced the number of days; had he not done so, nobody would survive. For the sake of his chosen people, however, God will reduce the days. And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.
23 “Then, if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’ or ‘There he is!’—do not believe it. Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.
24 For false Messiahs and false prophets will appear; they will perform great miracles and wonders in order to deceive even God's chosen people, if possible. For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
25 Listen! I have told you this ahead of time. Behold, I have told you before.
26 “Or, if people should tell you, ‘Look, he is out in the desert!’—don't go there; or if they say, ‘Look, he is hiding here!’—don't believe it. Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.
27 For the Son of Man will come like the lightning which flashes across the whole sky from the east to the west. For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
28 “Wherever there is a dead body, the vultures will gather. (; ) For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.
29
The Coming of the Son of Man
“Soon after the trouble of those days, the sun will grow dark, the moon will no longer shine, the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers in space will be driven from their courses.
Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
30 Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky; and all the peoples of earth will weep as they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
31 The great trumpet will sound, and he will send out his angels to the four corners of the earth, and they will gather his chosen people from one end of the world to the other. (; ) And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
32
The Lesson of the Fig Tree
“Let the fig tree teach you a lesson. When its branches become green and tender and it starts putting out leaves, you know that summer is near.
Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:
33 In the same way, when you see all these things, you will know that the time is near, ready to begin. So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.
34 Remember that all these things will happen before the people now living have all died. Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.
35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. (; Luke 17.26-30,34-36) Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
36
No One Knows the Day and Hour
“No one knows, however, when that day and hour will come—neither the angels in heaven nor the Son; the Father alone knows.
But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
37 The coming of the Son of Man will be like what happened in the time of Noah. But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
38 In the days before the flood people ate and drank, men and women married, up to the very day Noah went into the boat; For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
39 yet they did not realize what was happening until the flood came and swept them all away. That is how it will be when the Son of Man comes. And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
40 At that time two men will be working in a field: one will be taken away, the other will be left behind. Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
41 Two women will be at a mill grinding meal: one will be taken away, the other will be left behind. Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
42 Watch out, then, because you do not know what day your Lord will come. Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
43 If the owner of a house knew the time when the thief would come, you can be sure that he would stay awake and not let the thief break into his house. But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.
44 So then, you also must always be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you are not expecting him. () Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.
45
The Faithful or the Unfaithful Servant
“Who, then, is a faithful and wise servant? It is the one that his master has placed in charge of the other servants to give them their food at the proper time.
Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?
46 How happy that servant is if his master finds him doing this when he comes home! Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
47 Indeed, I tell you, the master will put that servant in charge of all his property. Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.
48 But if he is a bad servant, he will tell himself that his master will not come back for a long time, But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming;
49 and he will begin to beat his fellow servants and to eat and drink with drunkards. And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken;
50 Then that servant's master will come back one day when the servant does not expect him and at a time he does not know. The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of,
51 The master will cut him in pieces and make him share the fate of the hypocrites. There he will cry and gnash his teeth. And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
