1	Über die Philister Noch bevor der Pharao die Stadt Gaza eroberte, sprach der Herr zum Propheten Jeremia und befahl ihm, über die Philister folgende Botschaft zu verkünden:	The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet against the Philistines, before that Pharaoh smote Gaza.
2	»So spricht der Herr: ›Wasser bricht von Norden herein. Es wird zu einem reißenden Strom, der alles überflutet: das offene Land und was dort wächst, die Städte und ihre Bewohner. Die Menschen klagen und schreien,	Thus saith the Lord; Behold, waters rise up out of the north, and shall be an overflowing flood, and shall overflow the land, and all that is therein; the city, and them that dwell therein: then the men shall cry, and all the inhabitants of the land shall howl.
3	denn sie hören das Stampfen der Pferde, das Rasseln der Streitwagen, das Rollen der Räder. Da kümmern selbst Eltern sich nicht mehr darum, wo ihre Kinder bleiben; so sehr hat die Angst sie gepackt.	At the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his strong horses, at the rushing of his chariots, and at the rumbling of his wheels, the fathers shall not look back to their children for feebleness of hands;
4	Denn der Tag ist gekommen, der allen Philistern den Untergang bringt. Niemand wird übrig bleiben, der Tyrus und Sidon künftig noch zu Hilfe kommen könnte. Ich selbst, der Herr, bin es, der die Philister vernichtet, den Rest dieser Leute, die einst von der Insel Kreta kamen.‹«	Because of the day that cometh to spoil all the Philistines, and to cut off from Tyrus and Zidon every helper that remaineth: for the Lord will spoil the Philistines, the remnant of the country of Caphtor.
5	Die Einwohner von Gaza trauern; sie haben sich den Kopf kahl geschoren. In Aschkelon ist jeder Freudenlaut verstummt. Ihr Nachkommen der Anakiter, wie lange werdet ihr noch trauern müssen und euch die Haut blutig ritzen?	Baldness is come upon Gaza; Ashkelon is cut off with the remnant of their valley: how long wilt thou cut thyself?
6	Ach, Schwert des Herrn, willst du denn keine Ruhe geben? Kehr zurück in deine Scheide! Hör auf zu wüten, halt ein!	O thou sword of the Lord, how long will it be ere thou be quiet? put up thyself into thy scabbard, rest, and be still.
7	Aber wie könnte es Ruhe geben? Der Herr selbst gab ihm den Befehl, Aschkelon und das Gebiet an der Küste zu schlagen.	How can it be quiet, seeing the Lord hath given it a charge against Ashkelon, and against the sea shore? there hath he appointed it.
