1	Asa erneuert den Bund mit Gott Der Geist Gottes nahm Besitz von Asarja, dem Sohn Odeds,	And the Spirit of God came upon Azariah the son of Oded:
2	sodass er Asa entgegenging und zu ihm sagte: »Hört mir zu, König Asa und alle Leute von Juda und Benjamin! Der Herr hält zu euch, solange ihr euch zu ihm haltet. Wenn ihr seine Nähe sucht, wird er sich von euch finden lassen. Wenn ihr euch aber von ihm abwendet, wird auch er sich von euch abwenden.	And he went out to meet Asa, and said unto him, Hear ye me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin; The Lord is with you, while ye be with him; and if ye seek him, he will be found of you; but if ye forsake him, he will forsake you.
3	Es gab eine lange Zeit, in der die Israeliten ohne den wahren Gott lebten. Da hatten sie auch keine Priester, die sie unterwiesen, und sie kannten Gottes Gesetz nicht mehr.	Now for a long season Israel hath been without the true God, and without a teaching priest, and without law.
4	Jedes Mal, wenn es dann den Israeliten schlecht ging, wandten sie sich wieder zum Herrn, ihrem Gott; sie suchten seine Nähe und er ließ sich finden.	But when they in their trouble did turn unto the Lord God of Israel, and sought him, he was found of them.
5	Damals konnte niemand ungefährdet reisen, es war eine Zeit der Unsicherheit und Unordnung in allen Ländern.	And in those times there was no peace to him that went out, nor to him that came in, but great vexations were upon all the inhabitants of the countries.
6	Die Völker bedrängten sich gegenseitig und Städte lagen miteinander im Streit, weil Gott sie durch alle Arten von Unglück verwirrte.	And nation was destroyed of nation, and city of city: for God did vex them with all adversity.
7	Darum seid jetzt stark und legt die Hände nicht in den Schoß! Der Herr wird euer Tun belohnen!«	Be ye strong therefore, and let not your hands be weak: for your work shall be rewarded.
8	Als Asa diese prophetischen Worte Asarjas hörte, ging er entschlossen ans Werk und ließ im ganzen Gebiet von Juda und Benjamin die verabscheuenswürdigen Götterbilder entfernen, ebenso in den Städten, die er im Bergland Efraïm erobert hatte. Den Altar des Herrn vor der Vorhalle des Tempels ließ er erneuern.	And when Asa heard these words, and the prophecy of Oded the prophet, he took courage, and put away the abominable idols out of all the land of Judah and Benjamin, and out of the cities which he had taken from mount Ephraim, and renewed the altar of the Lord, that was before the porch of the Lord.
9	Dann rief er die Männer aus Juda und Benjamin zusammen, dazu auch alle aus den Stämmen Efraïm, Manasse und Simeon, die sich in seinem Land aufhielten. Es waren nämlich viele zu ihm übergelaufen, als sie sahen, dass der Herr, sein Gott, auf seiner Seite stand.	And he gathered all Judah and Benjamin, and the strangers with them out of Ephraim and Manasseh, and out of Simeon: for they fell to him out of Israel in abundance, when they saw that the Lord his God was with him.
10	Im 15. Regierungsjahr von Asa, im dritten Monat, versammelten sich alle in Jerusalem.	So they gathered themselves together at Jerusalem in the third month, in the fifteenth year of the reign of Asa.
11	Sie opferten dem Herrn 700 Rinder und 7000 Schafe aus der Beute, die sie heimgebracht hatten.	And they offered unto the Lord the same time, of the spoil which they had brought, seven hundred oxen and seven thousand sheep.
12	Sie erneuerten den Bund, den Gott mit ihren Vorfahren geschlossen hatte, und verpflichteten sich, dem Herrn mit ganzem Herzen und allen Kräften zu gehorchen.	And they entered into a covenant to seek the Lord God of their fathers with all their heart and with all their soul;
13	Wer sich nicht nach dem Willen des Herrn richten würde, sollte mit dem Tod bestraft werden, gleichgültig ob solch ein Mensch vornehm oder gering, Mann oder Frau war.	That whosoever would not seek the Lord God of Israel should be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.
14	Dies alles gelobten sie dem Herrn unter Jubelrufen und dem Schall der Trompeten und Widderhörner.	And they sware unto the Lord with a loud voice, and with shouting, and with trumpets, and with cornets.
15	Alle in Juda freuten sich darüber, denn sie hatten aus voller Überzeugung in den Schwur eingestimmt. Weil sie sich mit ganzer Hingabe dem Herrn zugewandt hatten, wandte auch er sich ihnen zu und gab ihnen Frieden an allen ihren Grenzen.	And all Judah rejoiced at the oath: for they had sworn with all their heart, and sought him with their whole desire; and he was found of them: and the Lord gave them rest round about.
16	König Asa setzte auch seine Mutter Maacha als Königsmutter ab, weil sie ein verabscheuenswürdiges Götzenbild der Göttin Aschera aufgestellt hatte. Das Götzenbild ließ er umhauen, in Stücke schlagen und im Kidrontal verbrennen.	And also concerning Maachah the mother of Asa the king, he removed her from being queen, because she had made an idol in a grove: and Asa cut down her idol, and stamped it, and burnt it at the brook Kidron.
17	Die vielen Opferstätten in Israel blieben allerdings weiterhin bestehen, aber in allem anderen gehorchte Asa dem Herrn mit ungeteiltem Herzen sein Leben lang.	But the high places were not taken away out of Israel: nevertheless the heart of Asa was perfect all his days.
18	Er brachte die goldenen und silbernen Geräte, die sein Vater dem Herrn geweiht hatte, in den Tempel und weihte dem Herrn noch weitere Gold- und Silbergeräte.	And he brought into the house of God the things that his father had dedicated, and that he himself had dedicated, silver, and gold, and vessels.
19	Bis zum 35. Regierungsjahr von Asa gab es keinen Krieg mehr.	And there was no more war unto the five and thirtieth year of the reign of Asa.
