1	Rut wagt eine Bitte Eines Tages sagte Noomi zu Rut: »Meine Tochter, ich möchte, dass du wieder einen Mann und eine Heimat bekommst.	Then Naomi her mother in law said unto her, My daughter, shall I not seek rest for thee, that it may be well with thee?
2	Du weißt, dass Boas, mit dessen Leuten du auf dem Feld warst, mit uns verwandt ist. Er arbeitet heute Abend mit der Worfschaufel auf der Tenne, um die Spreu von der Gerste zu trennen.	And now is not Boaz of our kindred, with whose maidens thou wast? Behold, he winnoweth barley to night in the threshingfloor.
3	Bade und salbe dich, zieh deine besten Kleider an und geh zur Tenne. Sieh zu, dass er dich nicht bemerkt, bevor er mit Essen und Trinken fertig ist.	Wash thyself therefore, and anoint thee, and put thy raiment upon thee, and get thee down to the floor: but make not thyself known unto the man, until he shall have done eating and drinking.
4	Pass gut auf, wo er sich hinlegt, und wenn er schläft, schlüpfe unter seine Decke und lege dich neben ihn. Er wird dir dann schon sagen, was du tun sollst.«	And it shall be, when he lieth down, that thou shalt mark the place where he shall lie, and thou shalt go in, and uncover his feet, and lay thee down; and he will tell thee what thou shalt do.
5	»Ich werde alles so machen, wie du gesagt hast«, antwortete Rut.	And she said unto her, All that thou sayest unto me I will do.
6	Dann ging sie zur Tenne und verfuhr genau nach den Anweisungen ihrer Schwiegermutter.	And she went down unto the floor, and did according to all that her mother in law bade her.
7	Als Boas gegessen und getrunken hatte, legte er sich gut gelaunt und zufrieden am Rand des Getreidehaufens schlafen. Leise ging Rut zu ihm hin, schlüpfte unter die Decke und legte sich neben ihn.	And when Boaz had eaten and drunk, and his heart was merry, he went to lie down at the end of the heap of corn: and she came softly, and uncovered his feet, and laid her down.
8	Um Mitternacht schrak Boas auf und tastete um sich. An ihn geschmiegt lag – eine Frau.	And it came to pass at midnight, that the man was afraid, and turned himself: and, behold, a woman lay at his feet.
9	»Wer bist du?«, fragte er und bekam die Antwort: »Ich bin Rut, deine Sklavin! Breite deinen Gewandsaum über mich und nimm mich zur Frau; du bist doch der Löser!«	And he said, Who art thou? And she answered, I am Ruth thine handmaid: spread therefore thy skirt over thine handmaid; for thou art a near kinsman.
10	Boas erwiderte: »Der Herr segne dich! Was du jetzt getan hast, zeigt noch mehr als alles bisher, wie treu du zur Familie deiner Schwiegermutter hältst. Du hättest ja auch den jungen Männern nachlaufen können und jeden bekommen, ob arm oder reich.	And he said, Blessed be thou of the Lord, my daughter: for thou hast shewed more kindness in the latter end than at the beginning, inasmuch as thou followedst not young men, whether poor or rich.
11	Nun, meine Tochter, sei unbesorgt! Ich werde tun, worum du mich gebeten hast. Jeder in der Stadt weiß, dass du eine tüchtige Frau bist.	And now, my daughter, fear not; I will do to thee all that thou requirest: for all the city of my people doth know that thou art a virtuous woman.
12	Doch da ist noch ein Punkt: Es stimmt zwar, dass ich ein Löser bin und dir helfen muss; aber es gibt noch einen zweiten, der den Vortritt hat, weil er näher verwandt ist als ich.	And now it is true that I am thy near kinsman: howbeit there is a kinsman nearer than I.
13	Bleib die Nacht über hier! Morgen früh werde ich ihn vor die Wahl stellen, ob er der Verpflichtung nachkommen will oder nicht. Wenn nicht, werde ich es tun. Das verspreche ich dir, so gewiss der Herr lebt. Bleib jetzt liegen bis zum Morgen!«	Tarry this night, and it shall be in the morning, that if he will perform unto thee the part of a kinsman, well; let him do the kinsman’s part: but if he will not do the part of a kinsman to thee, then will I do the part of a kinsman to thee, as the Lord liveth: lie down until the morning.
14	Rut blieb neben ihm liegen; aber in aller Frühe, noch bevor ein Mensch den andern erkennen konnte, stand sie auf. Denn Boas sagte: »Es darf nicht bekannt werden, dass eine Frau auf der Tenne war.«	And she lay at his feet until the morning: and she rose up before one could know another. And he said, Let it not be known that a woman came into the floor.
15	Dann sagte er noch zu ihr: »Nimm dein Umschlagtuch ab und halte es auf!« Er füllte einen halben Zentner Gerste hinein und hob ihr die Last auf die Schulter. Dann ging er in die Stadt.	Also he said, Bring the vail that thou hast upon thee, and hold it. And when she held it, he measured six measures of barley, and laid it on her: and she went into the city.
16	Als Rut nach Hause kam, fragte ihre Schwiegermutter: »Wie ist es dir ergangen, meine Tochter?« Rut erzählte alles, was Boas für sie getan und zu ihr gesagt hatte.	And when she came to her mother in law, she said, Who art thou, my daughter? And she told her all that the man had done to her.
17	»Und diese ganze Menge Gerste hat er mir mitgegeben«, fügte sie hinzu. »Er sagte: ›Du darfst nicht mit leeren Händen zu deiner Schwiegermutter kommen.‹«	And she said, These six measures of barley gave he me; for he said to me, Go not empty unto thy mother in law.
18	Noomi antwortete: »Bleib nun hier, meine Tochter, und warte ab, wie die Sache ausgeht. Der Mann wird nicht ruhen, bis er sie noch heute geordnet hat.«	Then said she, Sit still, my daughter, until thou know how the matter will fall: for the man will not be in rest, until he have finished the thing this day.
