| 1 | ESSENDO presso alle fiumane di Babilonia, Dove noi sedevamo, ed anche piangevamo, Ricordandoci di Sion, | By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion. |
| 2 | Noi avevamo appese le nostre cetere A’ salci, in mezzo di essa. | We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof. |
| 3 | Benchè quelli che ci avevano menati in cattività Ci richiedessero quivi che cantassimo; E quelli che ci facevano urlar piangendo Ci richiedessero canzoni d’allegrezza, dicendo: Cantateci delle canzoni di Sion; | For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song; and they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion. |
| 4 | Come avremmo noi cantate le canzoni del Signore In paese di stranieri? | How shall we sing the Lord’s song in a strange land? |
| 5 | Se io ti dimentico, o Gerusalemme; Se la mia destra ti dimentica; | If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning. |
| 6 | Resti attaccata la mia lingua al mio palato, Se io non mi ricordo di te; Se non metto Gerusalemme In capo d’ogni mia allegrezza | If I do not remember thee, let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth; if I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy. |
| 7 | Ricordati, Signore, de’ figliuoli di Edom, I quali, nella giornata di Gerusalemme, Dicevano: Spianate, spianate, Fino a’ fondamenti. | Remember, O Lord, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Rase it, rase it, even to the foundation thereof. |
| 8 | O figliuola di Babilonia, che devi esser distrutta, Beato chi ti farà la retribuzione Del male che tu ci hai fatto! | O daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed; happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us. |
| 9 | Beato chi piglierà i tuoi piccoli figliuoli, E li sbatterà al sasso. | Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones. |
