| 1 | Poikani, jos otat minun puheeni, ja käskyni kätket; | My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; |
| 2 | Niin anna korvas kuulla viisautta, ja taivuta sydämes ymmärrykseen. | So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; |
| 3 | Sillä jos ymmärrystä ahkerasti halajat, ja rukoilet taitoa; | Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; |
| 4 | Jos sitä etsit niinkuin hopiaa, ja pyörit sen perään niinkuin tavaran; | If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; |
| 5 | Niin sinä ymmärrät Herran pelvon, ja Herran tunnon löydät. | Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God. |
| 6 | Sillä Herra antaa viisauden, ja hänen suustansa tulee taito ja ymmärrys. | For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding. |

| 8 | Varjelee hurskaat, ja holhoo pyhäinsä retket. | He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints. |
| 9 | Silloin sinä ymmärrät vanhurskauden ja tuomion, oikeuden ja kaiken hyvän tien. | Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path. |
| 10 | Jos viisaus sydämees tulee, ja taito on sinulle kelvollinen, | When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul; |
| 11 | Niin hyvä neuvo sinua varjelee, ja ymmärrys kätkee sinun, | Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee: |
| 12 | Tempaamaan sinun pois pahalta tieltä, ja niiden seurasta, jotka toimettomia puhuvat, | To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things; |
| 13 | Ja hylkäävät oikian tien, ja vaeltavat pimeitä retkiä; | Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness; |
| 14 | Jotka iloitsevat pahoista töistänsä, ja riemuitsevat pahoista menoistansa; | Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked; |
| 15 | Joiden tiet ovat vastahakoiset, ja retket väärär ja häpiälliset: | Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths: |
| 16 | Ettet sinä ryhtyisi vieraaseen vaimoon, joka ei sinun ole, joka suloisilla sanoilla puhuttelee, | To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words; |
| 17 | Ja hylkää nuoruutensa johdattajan, ja unohtaa Jumalansa liiton. | Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God. |
| 18 | Sillä hänen huoneensa kallistuu kuolemaan, ja hänen askeleensa kadotettuin tykö. | For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead. |
| 19 | Jokainen joka menee hänen tykönsä, ei palaja, eikä elämän tielle joudu; | None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life. |
| 20 | Ettäs vaeltasit hyvää tietä, ja pitäisit hurskasten tiet. | That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous. |
| 21 | Sillä vanhurskaat asuvat maassa, ja vakaat siinä pysyvät; | For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it. |
| 22 | Mutta jumalattomat hukutetaan maasta, ja ylönkatsojat siitä teloitetaan. | But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it. |
