1 Al la homo apartenas la projektoj de la koro; Sed de la Eternulo venas la vortoj de la lango. The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the Lord.
2 Ĉiuj vojoj de la homo estas puraj en liaj okuloj; Sed la Eternulo esploras la spiritojn. All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the Lord weigheth the spirits.
3 Transdonu al la Eternulo viajn farojn; Tiam viaj entreprenoj staros forte. Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.
4 Ĉiu faro de la Eternulo havas sian celon; Eĉ malvirtulo estas farita por tago de malbono. The Lord hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.
5 Ĉiu malhumilulo estas abomenaĵo por la Eternulo; Kaj li certe ne restos ne punita. Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.
6 Per bono kaj vero pardoniĝas peko; Kaj per timo antaŭ la Eternulo oni evitas malbonon. By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil.
7 Kiam al la Eternulo plaĉas la vojoj de homo, Li eĉ liajn malamikojn pacigas kun li. When a man’s ways please the Lord, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.
8 Pli bona estas malmulto, sed kun justeco, Ol granda profito, sed maljusta. Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues without right.
9 La koro de homo pripensas sian vojon; Sed la Eternulo direktas lian iradon. A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps.
10 Sorĉo estas sur la lipoj de reĝo; Lia buŝo ne peku ĉe la juĝo. A divine sentence is in the lips of the king: his mouth transgresseth not in judgment.
11 Ĝusta pesilo kaj ĝustaj pesiltasoj estas de la Eternulo; Ĉiuj pezilŝtonoj en la sako estas Lia faro. A just weight and balance are the Lord’s: all the weights of the bag are his work.
12 Abomenaĵo por reĝoj estas fari maljustaĵon; Ĉar per justeco staras fortike la trono. It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness: for the throne is established by righteousness.
13 Al la reĝoj plaĉas lipoj veramaj; Kaj ili amas tiun, kiu parolas la veron. Righteous lips are the delight of kings; and they love him that speaketh right.
14 Kolero de reĝo estas kuriero de morto; Sed homo saĝa igas ĝin pardoni. The wrath of a king is as messengers of death: but a wise man will pacify it.
15 Luma vizaĝo de reĝo estas vivo; Kaj lia favoro estas kiel nubo kun printempa pluvo. In the light of the king’s countenance is life; and his favour is as a cloud of the latter rain.
16 Akiro de saĝeco estas multe pli bona ol oro; Kaj akiro de prudento estas preferinda ol arĝento. How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!
17 La vojo de virtuloj evitas malbonon; Kiu gardas sian vojon, tiu konservas sian animon. The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul.
18 Antaŭ la pereo iras fiereco; Kaj antaŭ la falo iras malhumileco. Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.
19 Pli bone estas esti humila kun malriĉuloj, Ol dividi akiron kun fieruloj. Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.
20 Kiu prudente kondukas aferon, tiu trovos bonon; Kaj kiu fidas la Eternulon, tiu estas feliĉa. He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the Lord, happy is he.
21 Kiu havas prudentan koron, tiu estas nomata saĝulo; Kaj agrablaj paroloj plivalorigas la instruon. The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning.
22 Saĝo estas fonto de vivo por sia posedanto; Sed la instruo de malsaĝuloj estas malsaĝeco. Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that hath it: but the instruction of fools is folly.
23 La koro de saĝulo prudentigas lian buŝon, Kaj en lia buŝo plivaloriĝas la instruo. The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth, and addeth learning to his lips.
24 Agrabla parolo estas freŝa mielo, Dolĉa por la animo kaj saniga por la ostoj. Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.
25 Iufoje vojo ŝajnas ĝusta al homo, Kaj tamen ĝia fino kondukas al la morto. There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
26 Kiu laboras, tiu laboras por si mem; Ĉar lin devigas lia buŝo. He that laboureth laboureth for himself; for his mouth craveth it of him.
27 Malbona homo kaŭzas malbonon; Kaj sur liaj lipoj estas kvazaŭ brulanta fajro. An ungodly man diggeth up evil: and in his lips there is as a burning fire.
28 Malica homo disvastigas malpacon; Kaj kalumnianto disigas amikojn. A froward man soweth strife: and a whisperer separateth chief friends.
29 Rabemulo forlogas sian proksimulon Kaj kondukas lin sur vojo malbona. A violent man enticeth his neighbour, and leadeth him into the way that is not good.
30 Kiu faras signojn per la okuloj, tiu intencas malicon; Kiu faras signojn per la lipoj, tiu plenumas malbonon. He shutteth his eyes to devise froward things: moving his lips he bringeth evil to pass.
31 Krono de gloro estas la grizeco; Sur la vojo de justeco ĝi estas trovata. The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness.
32 Pacienculo estas pli bona ol fortulo; Kaj kiu regas sian spiriton, tiu estas pli bona ol militakiranto de urbo. He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.
33 Sur la baskon oni ĵetas loton; Sed ĝia tuta decido estas de la Eternulo. The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing thereof is of the Lord.
