|---|---|---|
My spirit shall be wasted, my days shall be shortened and only the grave remaineth for me. | My breath is corrupt, my days are extinct, the graves are ready for me.
I have not sinned, and my eye abideth in bitterness. | Are there not mockers with me? and doth not mine eye continue in their provocation?
Deliver me, O Lord, and set me beside thee, and let any man's hand fight against me. | Lay down now, put me in a surety with thee; who is he that will strike hands with me?
Thou hast set their heart far from understanding, therefore they shall not be exalted. | For thou hast hid their heart from understanding: therefore shalt thou not exalt them.
He promiseth a prey to his companions, and the eyes of his children shall fail. | He that speaketh flattery to his friends, even the eyes of his children shall fail.
He hath made me as it were a byword of the people, and I am an example before them. | He hath made me also a byword of the people; and aforetime I was as a tabret.
My eye is dim through indignation, and my limbs are brought as it were to nothing. | Mine eye also is dim by reason of sorrow, and all my members are as a shadow.
The just shall be astonished at this, and the innocent shall be raised up against the hypocrite. | Upright men shall be astonied at this, and the innocent shall stir up himself against the hypocrite.
And the just man shall hold on his way, and he that hath clean hands shall be stronger and stronger. | The righteous also shall hold on his way, and he that hath clean hands shall be stronger and stronger.
Wherefore be you all converted, and come, and I shall not find among you any wise man. | But as for you all, do ye return, and come now: for I cannot find one wise man among you.
My days have passed away, my thoughts are dissipated, tormenting my heart. | My days are past, my purposes are broken off, even the thoughts of my heart.
They have turned night into day, and after darkness I hope for light again. | They change the night into day: the light is short because of darkness.
If I wait hell is my house, and I have made my bed in darkness. | If I wait, the grave is mine house: I have made my bed in the darkness.
I have said to rottenness: Thou art my father; to worms, my mother and my sister. | I have said to corruption, Thou art my father: to the worm, Thou art my mother, and my sister.
Where is now then my expectation, and who considereth my patience? | And where is now my hope? as for my hope, who shall see it?
All that I have shall go down into the deepest pit: thinkest thou that there at least I shall have rest? | They shall go down to the bars of the pit, when our rest together is in the dust.
