| 1 | A gradual canticle. Out of the depths I have cried to thee, O Lord: | Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth, may Israel now say: |
| 2 | Lord, hear my voice. Let thy ears be attentive to the voice of my supplication. | Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth: yet they have not prevailed against me. |
| 3 | If thou, O Lord, wilt mark iniquities: Lord, who shall stand it. | The plowers plowed upon my back: they made long their furrows. |
| 4 | For with thee there is merciful forgiveness: and by reason of thy law, I have waited for thee, O Lord. My soul hath relied on his word: | The Lord is righteous: he hath cut asunder the cords of the wicked. |
| 5 | my soul hath hoped in the Lord. | Let them all be confounded and turned back that hate Zion. |
| 6 | From the morning watch even until night, let Israel hope in the Lord. | Let them be as the grass upon the housetops, which withereth afore it groweth up: |
| 7 | Because with the Lord there is mercy: and with him plentiful redemption. | Wherewith the mower filleth not his hand; nor he that bindeth sheaves his bosom. |
| 8 | And he shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities. | Neither do they which go by say, The blessing of the Lord be upon you: we bless you in the name of the Lord. |
