| 1 | A gradual canticle. Blessed are all they that fear the Lord: that walk in his ways. | Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain. |
| 2 | For thou shalt eat the labours of thy hands: blessed art thou, and it shall be well with thee. | It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep. |
| 3 | Thy wife as a fruitful vine, on the sides of thy house. Thy children as olive plants, round about thy table. | Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. |
| 4 | Behold, thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the Lord. | As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. |
| 5 | May the Lord bless thee out of Sion: and mayst thou see the good things of Jerusalem all the days of thy life. | Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate. |
