| 1 | 雅各 見 埃及 有 糧， 就對兒子們 說：「你們為甚麼 彼此觀望呢？ | Now when Jacob saw that there was corn in Egypt, Jacob said unto his sons, Why do ye look one upon another? |
| 2 | 我聽見 埃及 有 糧，你們可以下去，從那裡 為我們 糴些來，使我們可以存活，不至於 死。」 | And he said, Behold, I have heard that there is corn in Egypt: get you down thither, and buy for us from thence; that we may live, and not die. |
| 3 | 於是，約瑟 的十個 哥哥 都下 埃及 糴 糧去了。 | And Joseph’s ten brethren went down to buy corn in Egypt. |
| 4 | 但 約瑟 的兄弟 便雅憫，雅各 沒有 打發 他和 哥哥們同去，因為 雅各說：「恐怕 他遭 害。」 | But Benjamin, Joseph’s brother, Jacob sent not with his brethren; for he said, Lest peradventure mischief befall him. |
| 5 | 來 糴糧 的人中 有以色列 的兒子們，因為 迦南 地 也有 饑荒。 | And the sons of Israel came to buy corn among those that came: for the famine was in the land of Canaan. |
| 6 | 當時治理 埃及地 的是 約瑟；糶糧 給那地 眾 民 的就是他。約瑟 的哥哥們 來了，臉 伏於地，向他 下拜。 | And Joseph was the governor over the land, and he it was that sold to all the people of the land: and Joseph’s brethren came, and bowed down themselves before him with their faces to the earth. |

| 9 | 約瑟 想起 從前所 做 的 那兩個夢，就對他們 說：「你們 是奸細，來 窺探 這地 的虛實。」 | And Joseph remembered the dreams which he dreamed of them, and said unto them, Ye are spies; to see the nakedness of the land ye are come. |
| 10 | 他們對他 說：「我主啊，不是的。僕人們 是糴 糧 來的。 | And they said unto him, Nay, my lord, but to buy food are thy servants come. |
| 11 | 我們 都是 一個 人 的兒子，是 誠實人；僕人們 並不 是 奸細。」 | We are all one man’s sons; we are true men, thy servants are no spies. |
| 12 | 約瑟說：「不然，你們必是 窺探 這地 的虛實 來的。」 | And he said unto them, Nay, but to see the nakedness of the land ye are come. |
| 13 | 他們說：「僕人們 本是 弟兄 十二人，是迦南 地 一個 人 的兒子， 頂小的 現今 在 我們的父親那裡，有一個 沒有了。」 | And they said, Thy servants are twelve brethren, the sons of one man in the land of Canaan; and, behold, the youngest is this day with our father, and one is not. |
| 14 | 約瑟 說：「我才說 你們 是奸細，這話實在不錯。 | And Joseph said unto them, That is it that I spake unto you, saying, Ye are spies: |
| 15 | 我指著法老 的性命起誓，若是 你們的小 兄弟 不到 這裡來，你們就不得 出 這地方，從此 就可以把你們證驗出來了。 | Hereby ye shall be proved: By the life of Pharaoh ye shall not go forth hence, except your youngest brother come hither. |
| 16 | 須要打發 你們中間 一個人去，把 你們的兄弟 帶來。至於你們，都要囚在這裡，好證驗 你們的話 真不真，若 不真，我指著法老 的性命起誓，你們 一定 是奸細。」 | Send one of you, and let him fetch your brother, and ye shall be kept in prison, that your words may be proved, whether there be any truth in you: or else by the life of Pharaoh surely ye are spies. |
| 17 | 於是約瑟把他們 都下 在 監裡 三 天。 | And he put them all together into ward three days. |
| 18 | 到第三 天，約瑟 對他們 說：「我 是敬畏 神的；你們照我的話 行 就可以存活。 | And Joseph said unto them the third day, This do, and live; for I fear God: |
| 19 | 你們 如果 是誠實人，可以留你們中間 的一個人 囚 在監裡，但你們 可以帶著 糧食 回去，救你們家 裡的饑荒。 | If ye be true men, let one of your brethren be bound in the house of your prison: go ye, carry corn for the famine of your houses: |
| 20 | 把 你們的小 兄弟 帶 到我這裡來，如此，你們的話 便有證據，你們也不至於 死。」他們就照樣 而行。 | But bring your youngest brother unto me; so shall your words be verified, and ye shall not die. And they did so. |
| 21 | 他們彼此 說：「我們 在 兄弟 身上實在 有罪。他 哀求 我們的時候，我們見 他心裡 的愁苦，卻不肯 聽，所以 這場 苦難 臨到 我們身上。」 | And they said one to another, We are verily guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the anguish of his soul, when he besought us, and we would not hear; therefore is this distress come upon us. |
| 22 | 流便 說：「我豈不是 對你們 說過，不可 傷害 那孩子嗎？只是你們不肯 聽，所以 流他血的罪 向我們追討。」 | And Reuben answered them, saying, Spake I not unto you, saying, Do not sin against the child; and ye would not hear? therefore, behold, also his blood is required. |
| 23 | 他們 不 知道 約瑟 聽得出來，因為 在他們中間 用通事傳話。 | And they knew not that Joseph understood them; for he spake unto them by an interpreter. |
| 24 | 約瑟轉身 退去，哭了一場，又回來 對他們 說話，就從他們中間 挑出 西緬來，在他們眼前 把他 捆綁。 | And he turned himself about from them, and wept; and returned to them again, and communed with them, and took from them Simeon, and bound him before their eyes. |
| 25 | 約瑟 吩咐 人把糧食 裝滿 他們的器具，把各人 的銀子 歸還 在 各人的口袋裡，又給 他們 路上 用的食物，人就照 他的話辦了。 | Then Joseph commanded to fill their sacks with corn, and to restore every man’s money into his sack, and to give them provision for the way: and thus did he unto them. |
| 26 | 他們就把 糧食 馱 在 驢上，離開 那裡去了。 | And they laded their asses with the corn, and departed thence. |
| 27 | 到了住宿的地方，他們中間有一個人 打開 口袋，要拿料 餵 驢，才看見 自己的銀子仍在 口 袋裡， | And as one of them opened his sack to give his ass provender in the inn, he espied his money; for, behold, it was in his sack’s mouth. |
| 28 | 就對 弟兄們 說：「我的銀子 歸還了，看哪，仍 在我口袋裡！」他們就提心吊膽，戰戰兢兢地 彼此 說：「這是 神 向我們 做 甚麼呢？」 | And he said unto his brethren, My money is restored; and, lo, it is even in my sack: and their heart failed them, and they were afraid, saying one to another, What is this that God hath done unto us? |
| 29 | 他們來 到 迦南 地、他們的父親 雅各那裡，將 所遭遇的事 都 告訴 他，說： | And they came unto Jacob their father unto the land of Canaan, and told him all that befell unto them; saying, |
| 30 | 「 那地 的主 對我們 說 嚴厲的話，把我們 當作窺探 那地 的奸細。 | The man, who is the lord of the land, spake roughly to us, and took us for spies of the country. |
| 31 | 我們對他 說：『我們是 誠實人，並不 是 奸細。 | And we said unto him, We are true men; we are no spies: |
| 32 | 我們 本是弟兄 十二人，都是一個父親 的兒子，有一個 沒有了，頂小的 如今 同 我們的父親 在迦南 地。』 | We be twelve brethren, sons of our father; one is not, and the youngest is this day with our father in the land of Canaan. |
| 33 | 那地 的主 對我們 說：『若要 我知道 你們是 誠實人，可以留下 你們 中間的一個人 在我這裡，你們可以帶著 糧食回去，救 你們家裡 的饑荒。 | And the man, the lord of the country, said unto us, Hereby shall I know that ye are true men; leave one of your brethren here with me, and take food for the famine of your households, and be gone: |
| 34 | 把 你們的小 兄弟 帶 到我這裡來，我便知道 你們 不是 奸細，乃是 誠實人。這樣，我就把你們的弟兄 交 給你們，你們也可以在 這地 做買賣。』」 | And bring your youngest brother unto me: then shall I know that ye are no spies, but that ye are true men: so will I deliver you your brother, and ye shall traffick in the land. |
| 35 | 後來 他們 倒 口袋，不料，各人 的銀 包 都在口袋裡；他們 和父親 看見 銀 包 就都害怕。 | And it came to pass as they emptied their sacks, that, behold, every man’s bundle of money was in his sack: and when both they and their father saw the bundles of money, they were afraid. |
| 36 | 他們的父親 雅各 對他們 說：「你們使我 喪失我的兒子：「約瑟 沒有了，西緬 也沒有了，你們又要將 便雅憫 帶去；這些事都 歸 到我身上了。」 | And Jacob their father said unto them, Me have ye bereaved of my children: Joseph is not, and Simeon is not, and ye will take Benjamin away: all these things are against me. |
| 37 | 流便 對 他父親 說：「我若 不 帶他 回來交給你，你可以殺 我的兩個 兒子。只管把他 交 在 我手裡，我 必帶他回來 交給你。」 | And Reuben spake unto his father, saying, Slay my two sons, if I bring him not to thee: deliver him into my hand, and I will bring him to thee again. |
| 38 | 雅各說：「我的兒子 不可 與你們一同 下去； 他哥哥 死了，只 剩下 他，他若在你們 所 行的 路上 遭 害，那便是你們使 我白髮蒼蒼、悲悲慘慘地 下 陰間去了。」 | And he said, My son shall not go down with you; for his brother is dead, and he is left alone: if mischief befall him by the way in the which ye go, then shall ye bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to the grave. |
