1 那時，天下 人的口音、言語 都是一樣。 And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.
2 他們往東邊 遷移的時候，在示拿 地 遇見 一片平原，就住 在那裡。 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.
3 他們彼此 商量說：「來吧！我們要做 磚，把磚燒 透了。」他們就拿 磚 當石頭，又拿 石漆 當 灰泥。 And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.
4 他們說：「來吧！我們 要建造 一座城 和一座塔，塔頂 通天，為要傳揚 我們的 名，免得 我們分散 在 全 地 上。」 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
5 耶和華 降臨，要看看 世人 所 建造的 城和 塔。 And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.
6 耶和華 說：「看哪，他們成為一樣的 人民，都是 一樣的 言語，如今既做 起 這事來，以後 他們 所 要 做 的事就沒有不 成就的了。 And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.
7 我們下 去，在那裡 變亂 他們的口音，使 他們的言語 彼此 不 通。」 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.
8 於是耶和華 使他們 從那裡 分散 在 全 地 上；他們就停工，不造 那城了。 So the Lord scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.
9 因為 耶和華 在那裡 變亂 天下 人的言語， 使眾人分散 在 全 地 上，所以 那城名 叫 巴別。 Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the Lord did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the Lord scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
10 閃 的後代 記在下面。洪水 以後 二年，閃 一百 歲 生了 亞法撒。 These are the generations of Shem: Shem was an hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood:
11 閃 生 亞法撒 之後 又活了 五 百 年，並且生 兒 養女。 And Shem lived after he begat Arphaxad five hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.
12 亞法撒 活到 三十 五 歲，生了 沙拉。 And Arphaxad lived five and thirty years, and begat Salah:
13 亞法撒 生 沙拉 之後 又活 了四 百 零三 年，並且生 兒 養女。 And Arphaxad lived after he begat Salah four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.
14 沙拉 活到 三十 歲，生了 希伯。 And Salah lived thirty years, and begat Eber:
15 沙拉 生 希伯 之後 又活 了四 百 零三 年，並且生 兒 養女。 And Salah lived after he begat Eber four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.
16 希伯 活 到三十 四 歲，生了 法勒。 And Eber lived four and thirty years, and begat Peleg:
17 希伯 生 法勒 之後 又活了 四 百 三十 年，並且生 兒 養女。 And Eber lived after he begat Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters.
18 法勒 活 到三十 歲，生了 拉吳。 And Peleg lived thirty years, and begat Reu:
19 法勒 生 拉吳 之後 又活了 二百 零九 年，並且生 兒 養女。 And Peleg lived after he begat Reu two hundred and nine years, and begat sons and daughters.
20 拉吳 活 到三十 二 歲，生了 西鹿。 And Reu lived two and thirty years, and begat Serug:
21 拉吳 生 西鹿 之後 又活了 二百 零七 年，並且生 兒 養女。 And Reu lived after he begat Serug two hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters.
22 西鹿 活 到三十 歲，生了 拿鶴。 And Serug lived thirty years, and begat Nahor:
23 西鹿 生 拿鶴 之後 又活了 二百 年，並且生 兒 養女。 And Serug lived after he begat Nahor two hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.
24 拿鶴 活 到二十 九 歲，生了 他拉。 And Nahor lived nine and twenty years, and begat Terah:
25 拿鶴 生 他拉 之後 又活了 一百 一十九 年，並且生 兒 養女。 And Nahor lived after he begat Terah an hundred and nineteen years, and begat sons and daughters.
26 他拉 活 到七十 歲，生了 亞伯蘭、 拿鶴、 哈蘭。 And Terah lived seventy years, and begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran.
27 他拉 的後代 記在下面。他拉 生 亞伯蘭、 拿鶴、 哈蘭；哈蘭 生 羅得。 Now these are the generations of Terah: Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begat Lot.
28 哈蘭 死 在他的本 地 迦勒底 的吾珥，在他父親 他拉 之先。 And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees.
29 亞伯蘭、拿鶴 各 娶了 妻：亞伯蘭 的妻子 名 叫撒萊；拿鶴 的妻子 名 叫密迦，是哈蘭 的女兒；哈蘭 是密迦 和亦迦 的父親。 And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram’s wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor’s wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.
30 撒萊 不生育，沒有 孩子。 But Sarai was barren; she had no child.
31 他拉 帶著 他兒子 亞伯蘭 和他孫子 哈蘭 的兒子 羅得，並他兒婦 亞伯蘭 的妻子 撒萊， 出了 迦勒底 的吾珥，要往 迦南 地去；他們走 到 哈蘭，就住 在那裡。 And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son’s son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram’s wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.
32 他拉 共活了 二百 零五 歲，就死 在哈蘭。 And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran.
