1 羅波安 來到 耶路撒冷，招聚 猶大 家 和便雅憫家，共十八萬人，都是挑選 的戰 士，要與 以色列人 爭戰，好將 國 奪回 再歸自己。 And when Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he gathered of the house of Judah and Benjamin an hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men, which were warriors, to fight against Israel, that he might bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam.
2 但耶和華 的話 臨 到 神 人 示瑪雅 說： But the word of the Lord came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,
3 「你去告訴 所羅門 的兒子 猶大 王 羅波安 和 住猶大、便雅憫 的以色列 眾人 說， Speak unto Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,
4 耶和華 如此 說：『你們不可 上去 與 你們的弟兄 爭戰，各 歸 各家去吧！因為 這 事 出於我。』」眾人就聽從 耶和華 的話 歸回，不去 與 耶羅波安爭戰。 Thus saith the Lord, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren: return every man to his house: for this thing is done of me. And they obeyed the words of the Lord, and returned from going against Jeroboam.
5 羅波安 住 在耶路撒冷，在猶大 地修築 城邑， And Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities for defence in Judah.
6 為保障 修築 伯利恆、 以坦、 提哥亞、 He built even Beth–lehem, and Etam, and Tekoa,
7 伯‧夙、 梭哥、 亞杜蘭、 And Beth–zur, and Shoco, and Adullam,
8 迦特、 瑪利沙、 西弗、 And Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph,
9 亞多萊音、 拉吉、 亞西加、 And Adoraim, and Lachish, and Azekah,
10 瑣拉、 亞雅崙、 希伯崙。這 都是猶大 和便雅憫 的堅固 城。 And Zorah, and Aijalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and in Benjamin fenced cities.
11 羅波安又堅固 各處的保障，在其中 安置 軍長，又預備下 糧食、油、酒。 And he fortified the strong holds, and put captains in them, and store of victual, and of oil and wine.
12 他在各 城 裡預備盾牌 和槍，且使城極 其堅固。猶大 和便雅憫 都歸了 他。 And in every several city he put shields and spears, and made them exceeding strong, having Judah and Benjamin on his side.
13 以色列 全 地 的 祭司 和利未人 都從四 方 來 歸羅波安。 And the priests and the Levites that were in all Israel resorted to him out of all their coasts.
14 利未人 撇下 他們的郊野 和產業，來到 猶大 與耶路撒冷，是因 耶羅波安 和他的兒子 拒絕他們，不許他們供祭司職分 事奉耶和華。 For the Levites left their suburbs and their possession, and came to Judah and Jerusalem: for Jeroboam and his sons had cast them off from executing the priest’s office unto the Lord:
15 耶羅波安為邱壇、為鬼魔（原文是公山羊）、為自己 所 鑄造 的牛犢 設立 祭司。 And he ordained him priests for the high places, and for the devils, and for the calves which he had made.
16 以色列 各 支派中，凡立定 心意 尋求 耶和華─以色列 神的，都隨從利未人，來到 耶路撒冷 祭祀 耶和華─他們列祖的 神。 And after them out of all the tribes of Israel such as set their hearts to seek the Lord God of Israel came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice unto the Lord God of their fathers.
17 這樣，就堅固 猶大 國，使 所羅門 的兒子 羅波安 強盛 三 年，因為 他們三 年 遵行 大衛 和所羅門 的道。 So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong, three years: for three years they walked in the way of David and Solomon.
18 羅波安 娶 大衛 兒子 耶利摩 的女兒 瑪哈拉 為妻，又娶耶西 兒子 以利押 的女兒 亞比孩為妻。 And Rehoboam took him Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David to wife, and Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse;
19 從她生了 幾個兒子，就是 耶烏施、 示瑪利雅、 撒罕。 Which bare him children; Jeush, and Shamariah, and Zaham.
20 後來 又娶 押沙龍 的女兒 瑪迦（十三章二節是烏列的女兒米該亞），從她生了 亞比雅、 亞太、 細撒、 示羅密。 And after her he took Maachah the daughter of Absalom; which bare him Abijah, and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith.
21 羅波安 娶 十 八 個妻，立六十個 妾，生 二十 八 個兒子，六十個 女兒；他卻愛 押沙龍 的女兒 瑪迦，比愛別的 妻 妾更甚。 And Rehoboam loved Maachah the daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his concubines: (for he took eighteen wives, and threescore concubines; and begat twenty and eight sons, and threescore daughters.)
22 羅波安 立 瑪迦 的兒子 亞比雅 作太子，在他弟兄 中為首，因為 想要立他接續作王。 And Rehoboam made Abijah the son of Maachah the chief, to be ruler among his brethren: for he thought to make him king.
23 羅波安辦事精明，使他眾 子 分散 在猶大 和便雅憫 全 地 各 堅固 城裡，又賜 他們 許多 糧食，為他們多 尋 妻子。 And he dealt wisely, and dispersed of all his children throughout all the countries of Judah and Benjamin, unto every fenced city: and he gave them victual in abundance. And he desired many wives.
