| 1 | 我的 弟兄們，不 要 多人 作師傅，因為曉得 我們要受 更重的 判斷。 | My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation. |
| 2 | 原來 我們在許多事上 都有 過失；若 有人 在話語 上 沒有 過失，他就是 完全 人，也 能 勒住 自己的全 身。 | For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body. |
| 3 | 我們若把嚼環 放 在馬 嘴 裡，叫 牠 順服， 就能調動 牠的 全 身。 | Behold, we put bits in the horses’ mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body. |
| 4 | 看哪， 船隻 雖然 甚大，又 被 大 風 催逼，只用 小小的 舵，就隨著 掌舵的 意思 轉動。 | Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth. |
| 5 | 這樣，舌頭 在百體 裡也是 最小的，卻 能說大話。看哪，最小的 火 能點著 最大的 樹林。 | Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! |
| 6 | 舌頭 就是火，在我們 百體 中，舌頭 是 個罪惡 的世界，能污穢 全 身，也能 把生命的 輪子 點起來，並且 是從地獄 裡 點著的。 | And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. |
| 7 | 各 類 的走獸、 飛禽、 昆蟲、 水族，本來都可以制伏，也 已經被人 制伏了； | For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: |
| 8 | 惟獨 舌頭 沒有 人 能 制伏，是不止息的 惡物，滿了 害死人 的毒氣。 | But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. |
| 9 | 我們用 舌頭 頌讚 那為主、 為父的，又 用 舌頭 咒詛 那 照著 神 形像 被造 的人。 | Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. |
| 10 | 頌讚 和 咒詛 從 一個 口 裡出來！我的 弟兄們，這 是 不 應當的！ | Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. |
| 11 | 泉源 從 一個 眼 裡能發出 甜 苦兩樣的水嗎？ | Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? |
| 12 | 我的 弟兄們， 無花果樹 能 生 橄欖嗎？ 葡萄樹 能結無花果嗎？鹹 水 裡也不能 發出 甜水來。 | Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh. |
| 13 | 你們 中間 誰 是有智慧 有見識的呢？他 就當在智慧的 溫柔 上 顯出 他的善 行來。 | Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. |
| 14 | 你們 心 裡 若 懷著 苦毒的 嫉妒 和 紛爭，就不可 自誇，也 不可說謊話 抵擋 真道。 | But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. |
| 15 | 這樣的 智慧 不 是 從上頭 來的，乃是 屬地的，屬情慾的，屬鬼魔的。 | This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. |
| 16 | 在何處 有嫉妒、 紛爭，就在何處 有擾亂 和 各樣的 壞 事。 | For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. |
| 17 | 惟獨 從上頭來的 智慧，先 是 清潔，後是 和平，溫良 柔順，滿有 憐憫，多結善 果，沒有偏見， 沒有假冒。 | But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. |
| 18 | 並且 使人 和平的，是用 和平 所栽種 的義 果。 | And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace. |
