1 大衛對 掃羅 說 完了話，約拿單 的心 與大衛 的心 深相契合。約拿單 愛大衛，如同愛自己的性命。 And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.
2 那 日 掃羅 留住大衛，不 容他 再回 父 家。 And Saul took him that day, and would let him go no more home to his father’s house.
3 約拿單 愛 大衛 如同愛自己的性命，就與他 結 盟。 Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.
4 約拿單 從身上 脫下 外袍，給了 大衛，又將戰衣、 刀、 弓、 腰帶都給了他。 And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle.
5 掃羅 無論差遣 大衛 往何處 去，他都做事精明。掃羅 就立 他作 戰 士長，眾 百姓 和 掃羅 的臣僕 無不喜悅。 And David went out whithersoever Saul sent him, and behaved himself wisely: and Saul set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul’s servants.
6 大衛 打死了 那 非利士人，同眾人回來的時候，婦女們 從以色列 各 城 裡出來，歡歡喜喜，打鼓 擊磬，歌唱 跳舞，迎接 掃羅 王。 And it came to pass as they came, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, that the women came out of all cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, with tabrets, with joy, and with instruments of musick.
7 眾婦女 舞蹈 唱和，說：「掃羅 殺死 千千，大衛 殺死萬萬。」 And the women answered one another as they played, and said, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands.
8 掃羅 甚 發怒，不喜悅 這 話，就說：「將萬萬 歸 大衛，千千 歸 我，只 剩下 王位 沒有給他了。」 And Saul was very wroth, and the saying displeased him; and he said, They have ascribed unto David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed but thousands: and what can he have more but the kingdom?
9 從這 日 起，掃羅 就怒視 大衛。 And Saul eyed David from that day and forward.
10 次日，從 神 那裡來的惡 魔 大大降 在 掃羅身上，他就在 家 中胡言亂語。大衛 照 常 彈琴，掃羅 手裡 拿著槍。 And it came to pass on the morrow, that the evil spirit from God came upon Saul, and he prophesied in the midst of the house: and David played with his hand, as at other times: and there was a javelin in Saul’s hand.
11 掃羅 把 槍 一掄，心裡說，我要將大衛 刺透，釘在牆上。大衛 躲避 他 兩次。 And Saul cast the javelin; for he said, I will smite David even to the wall with it. And David avoided out of his presence twice.
12 掃羅 懼怕 大衛；因為 耶和華 離開 自己， 與大衛同在。 And Saul was afraid of David, because the Lord was with him, and was departed from Saul.
13 所以掃羅 使大衛離開 自己，立他 為 千夫 長，他就領 兵 出 入。 Therefore Saul removed him from him, and made him his captain over a thousand; and he went out and came in before the people.
14 大衛 做事 無不 精明，耶和華 也與他同在。 And David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and the Lord was with him.
15 掃羅 見 大衛 做事精明，就甚怕 他。 Wherefore when Saul saw that he behaved himself very wisely, he was afraid of him.
16 但以色列 和猶大 眾人 都愛 大衛，因為 他 領他們 出 入。 But all Israel and Judah loved David, because he went out and came in before them.
17 掃羅 對 大衛 說：「 我將 大 女兒 米拉 給 你 為妻，只要你 為我 奮勇，為耶和華 爭戰。」掃羅 心裡說：「我不好 親手 害他，要 藉非利士人 的手 害他。」 And Saul said to David, Behold my elder daughter Merab, her will I give thee to wife: only be thou valiant for me, and fight the Lord’s battles. For Saul said, Let not mine hand be upon him, but let the hand of the Philistines be upon him.
18 大衛 對 掃羅 說：「我是 誰，我是甚麼 出身，我父 家 在以色列中是何等的家，豈敢 作 王的 女婿呢？」 And David said unto Saul, Who am I? and what is my life, or my father’s family in Israel, that I should be son in law to the king?
19 掃羅 的女兒 米拉 到了 當給 大衛 的時候，掃羅卻 給了 米何拉人 亞得列 為妻。 But it came to pass at the time when Merab Saul’s daughter should have been given to David, that she was given unto Adriel the Meholathite to wife.
20 掃羅 的次女 米甲 愛 大衛。有人告訴 掃羅，掃羅 就喜悅。 And Michal Saul’s daughter loved David: and they told Saul, and the thing pleased him.
21 掃羅 心裡說：「我將這女兒給 大衛，作 他的 網羅， 好藉非利士人 的手 害他。」所以掃羅 對 大衛 說：「你今日 可以第二次 作我的 女婿。」 And Saul said, I will give him her, that she may be a snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him. Wherefore Saul said to David, Thou shalt this day be my son in law in the one of the twain.
22 掃羅 吩咐 臣僕說：「你們暗中 對 大衛 說：『 王 喜悅 你，王的臣僕 也都 喜愛你，所以你當 作王的 女婿。』」 And Saul commanded his servants, saying, Commune with David secretly, and say, Behold, the king hath delight in thee, and all his servants love thee: now therefore be the king’s son in law.
23 掃羅 的臣僕 就照 這 話 說 給大衛 聽。大衛 說：「你們以為 作王的 女婿 是一件小事嗎？我是 貧窮 卑微 的人。」 And Saul’s servants spake those words in the ears of David. And David said, Seemeth it to you a light thing to be a king’s son in law, seeing that I am a poor man, and lightly esteemed?
24 掃羅 的臣僕 回奏 說，大衛 所說的 如此如此。 And the servants of Saul told him, saying, On this manner spake David.
25 掃羅 說：「你們要對大衛 這樣 說：『王 不 要 甚麼聘禮，只要 一百 非利士人 的陽皮，好在王 的仇敵 身上報仇。』」掃羅 的意思 要使 大衛 喪 在非利士人 的手裡。 And Saul said, Thus shall ye say to David, The king desireth not any dowry, but an hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to be avenged of the king’s enemies. But Saul thought to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines.
26 掃羅的臣僕 將 這 話 告訴 大衛，大衛 就歡喜 作王 的女婿。日期 還沒有 到， And when his servants told David these words, it pleased David well to be the king’s son in law: and the days were not expired.
27 大衛 和跟隨他的人 起身 前往，殺了 二百 非利士人， 將 陽皮 滿數 交 給王，為要作王的 女婿。於是掃羅 將 女兒 米甲 給 大衛 為妻。 Wherefore David arose and went, he and his men, and slew of the Philistines two hundred men; and David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full tale to the king, that he might be the king’s son in law. And Saul gave him Michal his daughter to wife.
28 掃羅 見 耶和華 與 大衛同在，又知道 女兒 米甲 愛大衛， And Saul saw and knew that the Lord was with David, and that Michal Saul’s daughter loved him.
29 就 更 怕 大衛， 常 作 大衛 的仇敵。 And Saul was yet the more afraid of David; and Saul became David’s enemy continually.
30 每逢 非利士 軍長 出來打仗，大衛 比 掃羅 的臣僕 做事精明，因此他的名 被人尊重。 Then the princes of the Philistines went forth: and it came to pass, after they went forth, that David behaved himself more wisely than all the servants of Saul; so that his name was much set by.
