| 1 | 亞捫人 的王拿轄 上來，對著基列．雅比 安營。雅比 眾 人 對 拿轄 說：「你與我們 立 約，我們就服事你。」 | Then Nahash the Ammonite came up, and encamped against Jabesh–gilead: and all the men of Jabesh said unto Nahash, Make a covenant with us, and we will serve thee. |
| 2 | 亞捫人 拿轄 說：「你們 若 由我剜出 你們各人 的右 眼，以此 凌 辱 以色列 眾人，我就與你們 立約。」 | And Nahash the Ammonite answered them, On this condition will I make a covenant with you, that I may thrust out all your right eyes, and lay it for a reproach upon all Israel. |

| 5 | 掃羅 正 從 田間 趕 牛 回來， 問說：「百姓 為甚麼 哭呢？」眾人將 雅比 人 的話 告訴 他。 | And, behold, Saul came after the herd out of the field; and Saul said, What aileth the people that they weep? And they told him the tidings of the men of Jabesh. |
| 6 | 掃羅 聽見 這 話，就被 神 的靈 大大感動，甚是 發 怒。 | And the Spirit of God came upon Saul when he heard those tidings, and his anger was kindled greatly. |
| 7 | 他將 一對 牛 切成塊子，託付 使者 傳送 以色列 的全 境，說：「凡 不 出來 跟隨 掃羅 和 撒母耳的，也必這樣 切開 他的牛。」於是耶和華 使 百姓 懼怕，他們就都出來，如同一 人。 | And he took a yoke of oxen, and hewed them in pieces, and sent them throughout all the coasts of Israel by the hands of messengers, saying, Whosoever cometh not forth after Saul and after Samuel, so shall it be done unto his oxen. And the fear of the Lord fell on the people, and they came out with one consent. |

| 9 | 眾人對那 使者 說：「你們要回覆基列．雅比 人 說，明日 太陽 近午的時候，你們 必得 解救。」使者 回去 告訴 雅比 人，他們就歡喜了。 | And they said unto the messengers that came, Thus shall ye say unto the men of Jabesh–gilead, To morrow, by that time the sun be hot, ye shall have help. And the messengers came and shewed it to the men of Jabesh; and they were glad. |
| 10 | 於是雅比 人 對亞捫人說：「明日 我們出來 歸順你們，你們可以隨 意 待 我們。」 | Therefore the men of Jabesh said, To morrow we will come out unto you, and ye shall do with us all that seemeth good unto you. |
| 11 | 第二日，掃羅 將 百姓 分為 三 隊，在晨 更的時候 入了 亞捫人的 營，擊殺 他們 直到 太陽 近午， 剩下的人 都逃散，沒有 二人 同 在一處 的。 | And it was so on the morrow, that Saul put the people in three companies; and they came into the midst of the host in the morning watch, and slew the Ammonites until the heat of the day: and it came to pass, that they which remained were scattered, so that two of them were not left together. |
| 12 | 百姓 對 撒母耳 說：「那說『掃羅 豈能管理 我們』的是誰呢？可以將他 交出來，我們好殺死他。」 | And the people said unto Samuel, Who is he that said, Shall Saul reign over us? bring the men, that we may put them to death. |
| 13 | 掃羅 說：「今 日 耶和華 在以色列中 施行 拯救， 所以不可 殺 人。」 | And Saul said, There shall not a man be put to death this day: for to day the Lord hath wrought salvation in Israel. |
| 14 | 撒母耳 對 百姓 說：「 我們要往吉甲 去，在那裡 立 國。」 | Then said Samuel to the people, Come, and let us go to Gilgal, and renew the kingdom there. |
| 15 | 眾 百姓 就到了 吉甲 那裡，在 耶和華 面前 立 掃羅 為王，又在耶和華 面前 獻 平安 祭。 掃羅 和以色列 眾 人 大大 歡喜。 | And all the people went to Gilgal; and there they made Saul king before the Lord in Gilgal; and there they sacrificed sacrifices of peace offerings before the Lord; and there Saul and all the men of Israel rejoiced greatly. |
