| 1 | 當下，全 會眾大 聲 喧嚷；那 夜 百姓 都哭號。 | And all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night. |
| 2 | 以色列 眾 人 向 摩西、 亞倫 發怨言；全 會眾 對他們 說：「巴不得 我們早死 在埃及 地，或 是 死 在這 曠野。 | And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said unto them, Would God that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would God we had died in this wilderness! |
| 3 | 耶和華 為甚麼 把我們 領 到 那 地，使我們倒 在刀下呢？我們的妻子 和孩子 必 被擄掠。我們 回 埃及 去豈不 好嗎？」 | And wherefore hath the Lord brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? were it not better for us to return into Egypt? |
| 4 | 眾人彼此 說：「我們不如立 一個首領 回 埃及去吧！」 | And they said one to another, Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt. |
| 5 | 摩西、亞倫 就俯伏 在 以色列 全 會 眾 面前。 | Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel. |
| 6 | 窺探 地 的人中，嫩 的兒子 約書亞 和耶孚尼 的兒子 迦勒 撕裂 衣服， | And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of them that searched the land, rent their clothes: |
| 7 | 對 以色列 全 會眾 說：「我們所 窺探、經過 之地 是極 美 之地。 | And they spake unto all the company of the children of Israel, saying, The land, which we passed through to search it, is an exceeding good land. |
| 8 | 耶和華 若 喜悅 我們，就必將我們 領 進 那 地，把地賜 給我們；那地 原 是 流 奶 與蜜之地。 | If the Lord delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which floweth with milk and honey. |
| 9 | 但 你們 不可 背叛 耶和華，也不要 怕 那地 的居民；因為 他們 是我們的食物，並且蔭庇 他們的已經離開 他們。有耶和華 與我們同在，不要 怕他們！」 | Only rebel not ye against the Lord, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defence is departed from them, and the Lord is with us: fear them not. |
| 10 | 但全 會眾 說：「拿石頭 打死 他們二人。」忽然，耶和華 的榮光 在會 幕 中向 以色列 眾 人 顯現。 | But all the congregation bade stone them with stones. And the glory of the Lord appeared in the tabernacle of the congregation before all the children of Israel. |
| 11 | 耶和華 對 摩西 說：「這 百姓 藐視我 要到 幾時呢？我在他們中間 行了 這 一切 神蹟，他們還不 信 我 要到 幾時呢？ | And the Lord said unto Moses, How long will this people provoke me? and how long will it be ere they believe me, for all the signs which I have shewed among them? |
| 12 | 我要用瘟疫 擊殺他們，使他們不得承受那地，叫 你 的後裔成為大 國，比他們 強勝。」 | I will smite them with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and will make of thee a greater nation and mightier than they. |
| 13 | 摩西 對 耶和華 說：「埃及人 必聽見這事；因為 你曾施展大能，將 這 百姓 從他們中間 領上來。 | And Moses said unto the Lord, Then the Egyptians shall hear it, (for thou broughtest up this people in thy might from among them;) |
| 14 | 埃及人要將這事傳 給 迦南 地 的居民；那民已經聽見 你─耶和華 是在這 百姓 中間；因為 你 面 對面 被人看見，有你的雲彩 停 在他們以上。你 日間 在雲 柱中，夜間 在火 柱中，在他們前面 行。 | And they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land: for they have heard that thou Lord art among this people, that thou Lord art seen face to face, and that thy cloud standeth over them, and that thou goest before them, by day time in a pillar of a cloud, and in a pillar of fire by night. |
| 15 | 如今你若把 這 百姓 殺了，如殺一 人，那些 聽見 你名聲 的列邦 必議論 說： | Now if thou shalt kill all this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of thee will speak, saying, |
| 16 | 『耶和華 因為不 能 把 這 百姓 領 進 他向他們 起誓 應許之 地，所以在曠野 把他們殺了。』 | Because the Lord was not able to bring this people into the land which he sware unto them, therefore he hath slain them in the wilderness. |
| 17 | 現在 求 主 大顯 能力，照你所 說過 的話說： | And now, I beseech thee, let the power of my Lord be great, according as thou hast spoken, saying, |
| 18 | 『耶和華 不輕易 發怒，並有豐盛 的慈愛，赦免 罪孽 和過犯；萬 不 以有罪的為無罪，必追討 他的罪，自父 及 子，直到 三、 四代。』 | The Lord is longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation. |
| 19 | 求 你照你的大 慈愛 赦免 這 百姓 的罪孽，好像 你從埃及 到 如今 常赦免 他們一樣。」 | Pardon, I beseech thee, the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of thy mercy, and as thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now. |
| 20 | 耶和華 說：「我照著你的話 赦免了他們。 | And the Lord said, I have pardoned according to thy word: |
| 21 | 然 我指著我 的永生起誓， 遍 地 要被我 的榮耀 充滿。 | But as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the Lord. |
| 22 | 這些 人 雖看 見 我的榮耀 和我在埃及 與曠野 所 行 的神蹟，仍然試探 我 這 十 次，不 聽從 我的話， | Because all those men which have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice; |
| 23 | 他們斷不得 看見 我向他們的祖宗 所 起誓 應許之地。凡 藐視我的，一個也不 得看見； | Surely they shall not see the land which I sware unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked me see it: |
| 24 | 惟獨我的僕人 迦勒，因 他另 有 一個心志，專一 跟從我，我就把他領 進 他所 去過 的那地；他的後裔 也必得那地為業。 | But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it. |
| 25 | 亞瑪力人 和迦南人 住 在谷中，明天 你們要轉回，從紅 海 的路 往曠野 去。」 | (Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites dwelt in the valley.) To morrow turn you, and get you into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea. |
| 26 | 耶和華 對 摩西、 亞倫 說： | And the Lord spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, |
| 27 | 「這 惡 會眾 向我 發怨言，我忍耐他們要到 幾時呢？以色列 人 向我 所 發的 怨言，我都聽見了。 | How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, which murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me. |
| 28 | 你們告訴 他們，耶和華 說：『我 指著我的永生起誓，我必要 照 你們達到我耳中 的話 待 你們。 | Say unto them, As truly as I live, saith the Lord, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you: |
| 29 | 你們的屍首 必倒 在這 曠野，並且 你們中間 凡 被數點、從 二十 歲 以外、 向我 發怨言的， | Your carcases shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, which have murmured against me, |
| 30 | 必不 得進 我起 誓 應許叫你們 住 的 那地；惟有 耶孚尼 的兒子 迦勒 和嫩 的兒子 約書亞才能進去。 | Doubtless ye shall not come into the land, concerning which I sware to make you dwell therein, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun. |
| 31 | 但你們的婦人孩子，就是 你們所說、要 被擄掠的，我必把他們 領進去，他們就得知 你們所 厭棄 的那地。 | But your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, them will I bring in, and they shall know the land which ye have despised. |
| 32 | 至於你們，你們的屍首 必倒 在這 曠野； | But as for you, your carcases, they shall fall in this wilderness. |
| 33 | 你們的兒女 必 在曠野 飄流 四十 年，擔當 你們淫行的罪，直到 你們的屍首 在曠野 消滅。 | And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcases be wasted in the wilderness. |
| 34 | 按 你們窺探 那地 的四十 日， 一年 頂一日，你們要擔當 罪孽 四十 年，就知道 我與你們疏遠了， | After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my breach of promise. |
| 35 | 我─耶和華 說過，我總要 這樣 待 這 一切 聚集 敵我 的惡 會眾；他們必在這 曠野 消滅，在這裡 死亡。』」 | I the Lord have said, I will surely do it unto all this evil congregation, that are gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die. |
| 36 | 摩西 所 打發、窺探 那地 的人 回來，報 那地 的惡信，叫 全 會眾 向摩西 發怨言， | And the men, which Moses sent to search the land, who returned, and made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up a slander upon the land, |
| 37 | 這些 報 惡 信 的人 都遭瘟疫，死 在耶和華 面前。 | Even those men that did bring up the evil report upon the land, died by the plague before the Lord. |
| 38 | 其中 惟有嫩 的兒子 約書亞 和耶孚尼 的兒子 迦勒 仍然存活。 | But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of the men that went to search the land, lived still. |
| 39 | 摩西 將 這些 話 告訴 以色列 眾 人，他們 就甚 悲哀。 | And Moses told these sayings unto all the children of Israel: and the people mourned greatly. |
| 40 | 清早 起來，上 山 頂 去，說：「我們在這裡， 我們有罪了；情願上 耶和華 所 應許 的地方 去。」 | And they rose up early in the morning, and gat them up into the top of the mountain, saying, Lo, we be here, and will go up unto the place which the Lord hath promised: for we have sinned. |
| 41 | 摩西 說：「你們 為何 違背 耶和華 的命令呢？這事 不能 順利了。 | And Moses said, Wherefore now do ye transgress the commandment of the Lord? but it shall not prosper. |
| 42 | 不要 上去；因為 耶和華 不 在你們中間，恐怕 你們被仇敵 殺敗了。 | Go not up, for the Lord is not among you; that ye be not smitten before your enemies. |
| 43 | 亞瑪力人 和迦南人都在 你們面前，你們必倒 在刀下；因 你們退回 不跟從 耶和華，所以他 必 不 與你們同在。」 | For the Amalekites and the Canaanites are there before you, and ye shall fall by the sword: because ye are turned away from the Lord, therefore the Lord will not be with you. |
| 44 | 他們卻擅敢 上 山 頂 去，然而耶和華 的約 櫃 和摩西 沒有 出 營。 | But they presumed to go up unto the hill top: nevertheless the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and Moses, departed not out of the camp. |
| 45 | 於是亞瑪力人 和住 在那 山上 的迦南人 都下來 擊打他們，把他們殺退了，直到 何珥瑪。 | Then the Amalekites came down, and the Canaanites which dwelt in that hill, and smote them, and discomfited them, even unto Hormah. |
