1 提阿非羅 大人哪， 有好些人 提筆 作書，述說 在 我們 中間所成就 的事， 是 照 傳道 的人 從 起初 親眼看見 又 傳 給我們的。 Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us,
2 a Even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word;
3 這些事 我既 從起頭 都詳細 考察了，就定意 要按著次序 寫 給你， It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus,
4 使 你知道 所學 之道 都是確實的。 That thou mightest know the certainty of those things, wherein thou hast been instructed.
5 當 猶太 王 希律 的時候，亞比雅 班 裡 有 一個 祭司，名叫 撒迦利亞； 他 妻子 是 亞倫 的後人， 名叫 伊利莎白。 There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth.
6 他們二人在 神 面前 都是 義人，遵行 主 的一切 誡命 禮儀，沒有可指摘的， And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.
7 只是 沒 有 孩子；因為 伊利莎白 不生育， 兩個 人又 年紀 老邁了。 And they had no child, because that Elisabeth was barren, and they both were now well stricken in years.
8 撒迦利亞 按 班 次在 神 面前 供祭司的職分， And it came to pass, that while he executed the priest’s office before God in the order of his course,
9 照 祭司 的規矩 掣籤，得進 主 殿 燒香。 According to the custom of the priest’s office, his lot was to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord.
10 燒香 的時候，眾 百姓 在外面 禱告。 And the whole multitude of the people were praying without at the time of incense.
11 有主 的使者 站 在 香 壇 的右邊，向他 顯現。 And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense.
12 撒迦利亞 看見，就驚慌 害怕。 And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him.
13 天使 對 他 說：「撒迦利亞，不要 害怕，因為 你 的祈禱 已經被聽見了。 你 的妻子 伊利莎白 要給你 生 一個兒子， 你要給他 起名 叫 約翰。 But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.
14 你 必 歡喜 快樂； 有許多人 因 他 出世，也必喜樂。 And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth.
15 他在主 面前 將要為 大， 淡酒 濃酒 都不 喝， 從 母 腹 裡就 被聖 靈 充滿了。 For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother’s womb.
16 他要使許多 以色列 人 回轉，歸於 主─他們的 神。 And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God.
17 他 必有 以利亞 的心志 能力，行 在主 的前面，叫為父 的心 轉 向 兒女， 叫悖逆的人 轉從 義人 的智慧，又為主 預備 合用 的百姓。」 And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.
18 撒迦利亞 對 天使 說：「我憑著 甚麼 可知道 這事呢？ 我 已經 老了，我 的妻子 也 年紀 老邁了。」 And Zacharias said unto the angel, Whereby shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife well stricken in years.
19 天使 回答 說：「我 是 站在 神 面前 的加百列， 奉差 而來對 你 說話， 將這 好信息報 給你。 And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God; and am sent to speak unto thee, and to shew thee these glad tidings.
20 到了 時候，這話 必然應驗；只因 你不 信， 你必 啞巴， 不 能 說話，直到 這事 成就 的 日子。」 And, behold, thou shalt be dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou believest not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season.
21 百姓 等候 撒迦利亞， 詫異 他 許久 在 殿裡。 And the people waited for Zacharias, and marvelled that he tarried so long in the temple.
22 及至 他出來，不 能 和他們 說話， 他們就知道 他在 殿 裡見 了異象；因為 他 直向他們 打手式，竟 成了 啞巴。 And when he came out, he could not speak unto them: and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple: for he beckoned unto them, and remained speechless.
23 他 供職 的日子 已滿，就回 家去了。 And it came to pass, that, as soon as the days of his ministration were accomplished, he departed to his own house.
24 這些 日子 以後，他的 妻子 伊利莎白 懷了孕，就 隱藏了 五個 月， And after those days his wife Elisabeth conceived, and hid herself five months, saying,
25 說：「 主 在 眷顧 我的日子，這樣 看待 我，要把我 在 人間 的羞恥 除掉。」 Thus hath the Lord dealt with me in the days wherein he looked on me, to take away my reproach among men.
26 到了 第六個 月，天使 加百列 奉 神 的差遣 往 加利利 的一座城去（這城名叫 拿撒勒）， And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,
27 到 一個童女那裡，是已經許配 大衛 家 的一個人， 名 叫約瑟。 童女 的名字 叫馬利亞； To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.
28 天使進去，對 她 說：「蒙大恩的女子，我問你安，主 和你 同在了！」 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.
29 馬利亞因 這話 就很驚慌，又 反覆思想 這樣 問安 是 甚麼意思。 And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.
30 天使 對她 說：「馬利亞，不要 怕！你在 神 面前 已經蒙恩了。 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.
31 你 要懷孕 生 子， 可以給他 起名 叫 耶穌。 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.
32 他要為 大， 稱為 至高者 的兒子； 主 神 要把他 祖 大衛 的位 給 他。 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
33 他要作 雅各 家的王，直到 永遠；他 的國 也 沒 有 窮盡。」 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
34 馬利亞 對 天使 說：「 我沒有 出嫁，怎麼 有 這事呢？」 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
35 天使 回答 說：「聖 靈 要臨 到 你身上， 至高者 的能力 要蔭庇 你，因此 所要生的 聖者 必稱為 神 的兒子（或譯：所要生的，必稱為聖，稱為 神的兒子）。 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
36 況且 你 的親戚 伊利莎白， 在 年老 的時候也 懷了 男胎，就是那 素來稱為 不生育的， 現在 有 孕六個 月了。 And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren.
37 因為， 出於 神 的話，沒有 一句不帶能力的。」 For with God nothing shall be impossible.
38 馬利亞 說：「 我是主 的使女，情願照 你 的話 成就 在我身上。」天使 就 離開 她去了。 And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.
39 那 時候，馬利亞 起身，急忙 往 山地 裡去，來到 猶大 的一座城； And Mary arose in those days, and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Juda;
40 進了 撒迦利亞 的家， 問 伊利莎白安。 And entered into the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elisabeth.
41 伊利莎白 一聽 馬利亞 問安，所懷的胎 就在 腹 裡跳動。伊利莎白 且 被聖 靈 充滿， And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:
42 高 聲 喊著 說：「你 在婦女 中 是有福的！你 所懷的胎 也 是有福的！ And she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.
43 我 主 的母 到 我 這裡來，這 是從哪裡得的呢？ And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
44 因為 你 問安 的聲音 一入 我 耳， 我 腹 裡的胎 就 歡喜 跳動。 For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.
45 這相信 的女子是有福的！因為 主 對她 所說 的話都要 應驗。」 And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.
46 馬利亞 說：我 心 尊 主為大； And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord,
47 我 靈 以 神 我 的救主 為樂； And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
48 因為 他顧念 他 使女 的卑微； 從 今以後，萬 代 要稱我 有福。 For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
49 那有權能的，為我 成就 了大事； 他 的名 為聖。 For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name.
50 他 憐憫 敬畏 他的人，直到 世世代代。 And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation.
51 他 用 膀臂 施展 大能；那狂傲 的人正 心 裡妄想 就被他趕散了。 He hath shewed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
52 他叫有權柄的 失 位， 叫卑賤的 升高； He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree.
53 叫飢餓的 得飽 美食， 叫富足的 空手 回去。 He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away.
54 他扶助 了他的 僕人 以色列， He hath holpen his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy;
55 為要記念 亞伯拉罕 和 他的 後裔，施憐憫 直到 永遠，正如 從前對 我們 列祖 所說的話。 As he spake to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever.
56 馬利亞 和伊利莎白 同 住，約有 三 個月，就 回 家去了。 And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned to her own house.
57 伊利莎白 的產 期 到了，就 生 了一個兒子。 Now Elisabeth’s full time came that she should be delivered; and she brought forth a son.
58 鄰里 親族 聽見 主 向 她 大施 憐憫，就 和她 一同歡樂。 And her neighbours and her cousins heard how the Lord had shewed great mercy upon her; and they rejoiced with her.
59 到了 第八 日，他們來 要給孩子 行割禮，並 要照 他 父親 的名字 叫 他 撒迦利亞。 And it came to pass, that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; and they called him Zacharias, after the name of his father.
60 他 母親 說：「不可！ 要叫 他約翰。」 And his mother answered and said, Not so; but he shall be called John.
61 他們 說：「 你 親族 中 沒 有 叫 這 名字的。」 And they said unto her, There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name.
62 他們就 向他 父親 打手式，問他 要 叫 這孩子甚麼名字。 And they made signs to his father, how he would have him called.
63 他要了 一塊寫字的板，就寫上，說：「他 的名字 是 約翰。」 他們 便都希奇。 And he asked for a writing table, and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they marvelled all.
64 撒迦利亞 的口 立時 開了， 舌頭 也舒展了，就 說出話來，稱頌 神。 And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue loosed, and he spake, and praised God.
65 周圍居住 的人都 懼怕；這 一切 的事 就 傳 遍 了猶太 的山地。 And fear came on all that dwelt round about them: and all these sayings were noised abroad throughout all the hill country of Judea.
66 凡 聽見的人 都將這事放 在 心裡，說：「這個 孩子 將來 怎麼樣呢？ 因為 有 主 與 他同在。」 And all they that heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, What manner of child shall this be! And the hand of the Lord was with him.
67 他 父親 撒迦利亞 被聖 靈 充滿了，就 預言 說： And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying,
68 主─以色列的 神 是應當稱頌的！因 他眷顧 他 的百姓， 為他們施行 救贖， Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people,
69 在 他 僕人 大衛 家中，為我們 興起了 拯救 的角， And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David;
70 正如 主藉著 從 創世 以來 聖 先知 的口 所說的話， As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began:
71 拯救 我們 脫離 仇敵 和 一切 恨 我們 之人的手， That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us;
72 向 我們 列祖 施 憐憫， 記念 他 的聖 約─ To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant;
73 就是 他對 我們 祖宗 亞伯拉罕 所起 的誓─ The oath which he sware to our father Abraham,
74 叫 我們 既從 仇敵 手 中被救出來， That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear,
75 就可以 終身 在他 面前，坦然無懼地 用 聖潔、 公義 事奉 他。 In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.
76 孩子啊！ 你 要稱為 至高者 的先知；因為 你要行 在主 的前面，預備 他 的道路， And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;
77 叫 他 的百姓 因 罪 得赦，就知道 救恩。 To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins,
78 因 我們 神 憐憫 的心腸， 叫清晨的日光 從 高天 臨到 我們， Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us,
79 要照亮 坐 在 黑暗 中 死 蔭裡的人，把我們 的腳 引 到 平安 的路上。 To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
80 那孩子 漸漸長大， 心靈 強健， 住 在 曠野，直到 他 顯明 在 以色列人 面前的日子。 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his shewing unto Israel.
