1 維時、天下音一語同、 And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.
2 東徙、遇平原於示拿、遂居焉、 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.
3 彼此互議曰、我其作甎、爇以成之、於是以甎代石、石漆代泥、 And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.
4 又曰、我其築城與臺、臺頂及天、以揚我名、庶免散於四方、 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
5 耶和華臨格、欲觀世人所築之城與臺、 And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.
6 曰、斯民爲一、言語亦同、今興是役、後之所謀、末由遏止、 And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.
7 我儕臨格、淆其言語、使彼此不通、 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.
8 於是耶和華散之四方、遂罷築城之役、 So the Lord scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.
9 其城名曰巴別、因耶和華在彼淆億兆之言語、散之四方故也、○ Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the Lord did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the Lord scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
10 閃之裔如左、洪水後二年、閃百歲、生亞法撒、 These are the generations of Shem: Shem was an hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood:
11 後歷五百年、猶生子女、 And Shem lived after he begat Arphaxad five hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.
12 亞法撒三十五歲生沙拉、 And Arphaxad lived five and thirty years, and begat Salah:
13 後歷四百有三年、猶生子女、 And Arphaxad lived after he begat Salah four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.
14 沙拉三十歲生希伯、 And Salah lived thirty years, and begat Eber:
15 後歷四百有三年、猶生子女、 And Salah lived after he begat Eber four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.
16 希伯三十四歲生法勒、 And Eber lived four and thirty years, and begat Peleg:
17 後歷四百三十年、猶生子女、 And Eber lived after he begat Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters.
18 法勒三十歲生拉吳、 And Peleg lived thirty years, and begat Reu:
19 後歷二百有九年、猶生子女、 And Peleg lived after he begat Reu two hundred and nine years, and begat sons and daughters.
20 拉吳三十二歲生西鹿、 And Reu lived two and thirty years, and begat Serug:
21 後歷二百有七年、猶生子女、 And Reu lived after he begat Serug two hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters.
22 西鹿三十歲生拿鶴、 And Serug lived thirty years, and begat Nahor:
23 後歷二百年、猶生子女、 And Serug lived after he begat Nahor two hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.
24 拿鶴二十九歲生他拉、 And Nahor lived nine and twenty years, and begat Terah:
25 後歷一百十九年、猶生子女、 And Nahor lived after he begat Terah an hundred and nineteen years, and begat sons and daughters.
26 他拉七十歲生亞伯蘭、拿鶴、哈蘭、○ And Terah lived seventy years, and begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran.
27 他拉之裔如左、他拉生亞伯蘭、拿鶴、哈蘭、哈蘭生羅得、 Now these are the generations of Terah: Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begat Lot.
28 哈蘭先其父死於故土、迦勒底之吾珥、 And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees.
29 亞伯蘭拿鶴皆娶室、亞伯蘭妻名撒萊、拿鶴妻名密迦、密迦曁亦迦、俱哈蘭之女、 And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram’s wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor’s wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.
30 撒萊不姙、無子、 But Sarai was barren; she had no child.
31 他拉挈子亞伯蘭、及孫、卽哈蘭子羅得、並子婦撒萊、卽亞伯蘭妻、咸出迦勒底之吾珥、欲往迦南、至於哈蘭居焉、 And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son’s son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram’s wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.
32 他拉享壽二百有五歲、終於哈蘭、 And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran.
