| 1 | 詣上帝室、愼爾步履、蓋前而聽、愈於愚人獻祭、以其不知所行乃惡也、 | Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil. |
| 2 | 爾於上帝前、勿造次啟口、勿心急出言、緣上帝在天、爾在地、故宜寡言、 | Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing before God: for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few. |
| 3 | 多事致夢、多言致愚、 | For a dream cometh through the multitude of business; and a fool’s voice is known by multitude of words. |
| 4 | 許願於上帝、宜償之勿緩、蓋彼不悅愚者、所許者必償之、 | When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed. |
| 5 | 許願不償、寧不許願、 | Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay. |
| 6 | 勿縱爾口陷身於罪、勿於使者前曰、乃錯誤也、曷使上帝聞爾聲而怒、敗爾手之所爲、 | Suffer not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to sin; neither say thou before the angel, that it was an error: wherefore should God be angry at thy voice, and destroy the work of thine hands? |
| 7 | 夢多詞繁、內有虛空、惟當寅畏上帝、○ | For in the multitude of dreams and many words there are also divers vanities: but fear thou God. |
| 8 | 若在州中見貧者受虐、或見強者奪公義、勿以爲異、蓋有居位較高者鑒之、又有更高者在焉、 | If thou seest the oppression of the poor, and violent perverting of judgment and justice in a province, marvel not at the matter: for he that is higher than the highest regardeth; and there be higher than they. |
| 9 | 且地利屬衆庶、卽王亦受田疇之供、○ | Moreover the profit of the earth is for all: the king himself is served by the field. |
| 10 | 好金者、得金而不知足、好富者、獲利而不知饜、斯亦虛空、 | He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity. |
| 11 | 貨財增、食之者亦增、其主有何益哉、惟目覩之而已、 | When goods increase, they are increased that eat them: and what good is there to the owners thereof, saving the beholding of them with their eyes? |
| 12 | 工人食無多寡、俱得安眠、富者以其豐裕、不得寢睡、○ | The sleep of a labouring man is sweet, whether he eat little or much: but the abundance of the rich will not suffer him to sleep. |
| 13 | 我於日下見有大患、乃人存積貨財、反自害也、 | There is a sore evil which I have seen under the sun, namely, riches kept for the owners thereof to their hurt. |
| 14 | 猝遭禍患、貨財俱亡、如其生子、手無所有、 | But those riches perish by evil travail: and he begetteth a son, and there is nothing in his hand. |
| 15 | 其出母胎、裸體而來、亦必如是而逝、勞而得者、手無可攜、 | As he came forth of his mother’s womb, naked shall he return to go as he came, and shall take nothing of his labour, which he may carry away in his hand. |
| 16 | 若何而來、亦若何而去、斯爲大患、勞而捕風、有何益哉、 | And this also is a sore evil, that in all points as he came, so shall he go: and what profit hath he that hath laboured for the wind? |
| 17 | 畢生飲食於暗、且多煩惱、遘疾逢怒、○ | All his days also he eateth in darkness, and he hath much sorrow and wrath with his sickness. |
| 18 | 我所見爲善爲美者、人在上帝所賜有生之期、飲食而享於日下勞而得者、此乃其值也、 | Behold that which I have seen: it is good and comely for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labour that he taketh under the sun all the days of his life, which God giveth him: for it is his portion. |
| 19 | 凡蒙上帝賜以資財富有、俾能享受、而取其值、樂其所勞、此乃上帝之賜也、 | Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labour; this is the gift of God. |
| 20 | 彼不多念其在世之日、蓋上帝應其中心之樂也、 | For he shall not much remember the days of his life; because God answereth him in the joy of his heart. |
