| 1 | 約伯曰、 | And Job answered and said, |
| 2 | 爾曹爲民、無疑也、智慧將與爾偕亡、 | No doubt but ye are the people, and wisdom shall die with you. |
| 3 | 然我亦有聰明、不亞於爾、所言之事、誰不知之、 | But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you: yea, who knoweth not such things as these? |
| 4 | 我籲上帝、蒙其俞允、而貽笑於鄰里、義人完人、乃爲笑柄、 | I am as one mocked of his neighbour, who calleth upon God, and he answereth him: the just upright man is laughed to scorn. |
| 5 | 安居者中存輕視患難之意、足躓者則遇之、 | He that is ready to slip with his feet is as a lamp despised in the thought of him that is at ease. |
| 6 | 寇賊之幕、乃獲亨通、以己手爲神、激上帝怒者、竟享穩固、 | The tabernacles of robbers prosper, and they that provoke God are secure; into whose hand God bringeth abundantly. |
| 7 | 試問走獸、彼必訓爾、試問飛鳥、亦必告爾、 | But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee: |
| 8 | 與地言之、彼必誨爾、海中鱗族、亦必語爾、 | Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee: and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee. |
| 9 | 凡此、誰不知乃耶和華所爲、 | Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the Lord hath wrought this? |
| 10 | 動物之生、世人之氣、悉在其手、 | In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind. |
| 11 | 耳豈非辨言、如口之嘗食乎、 | Doth not the ear try words? and the mouth taste his meat? |
| 12 | 年老者有智慧、壽高者有聰明、 | With the ancient is wisdom; and in length of days understanding. |
| 13 | 在上帝有智慧能力、亦有謀畧聰明、 | With him is wisdom and strength, he hath counsel and understanding. |
| 14 | 毀之不得復建、錮人莫之能釋、 | Behold, he breaketh down, and it cannot be built again: he shutteth up a man, and there can be no opening. |
| 15 | 止水則水涸、出之則地淹、 | Behold, he withholdeth the waters, and they dry up: also he sendeth them out, and they overturn the earth. |
| 16 | 在彼具能力、有智慧、受惑與惑人者、皆其所轄、 | With him is strength and wisdom: the deceived and the deceiver are his. |
| 17 | 褫謀夫、攜之去、使士師爲愚、 | He leadeth counsellors away spoiled, and maketh the judges fools. |
| 18 | 釋君王之所繫、轉以索繫其腰、 | He looseth the bond of kings, and girdeth their loins with a girdle. |
| 19 | 褫祭司、攜之去、使強者傾覆、 | He leadeth princes away spoiled, and overthroweth the mighty. |
| 20 | 廢忠誠者之才辯、奪年老者之知識、 | He removeth away the speech of the trusty, and taketh away the understanding of the aged. |
| 21 | 被王侯以羞恥、釋倔強者之帶、 | He poureth contempt upon princes, and weakeneth the strength of the mighty. |
| 22 | 自暗中顯彼隱祕、俾陰翳著於光明、 | He discovereth deep things out of darkness, and bringeth out to light the shadow of death. |
| 23 | 使列邦時興時滅、或廓之、或虜之、 | He increaseth the nations, and destroyeth them: he enlargeth the nations, and straiteneth them again. |
| 24 | 奪諸國民長之聰明、使其流離於無路之荒野、 | He taketh away the heart of the chief of the people of the earth, and causeth them to wander in a wilderness where there is no way. |
| 25 | 若輩無光、暗中摸索、以致蹁躚若醉、 | They grope in the dark without light, and he maketh them to stagger like a drunken man. |
