1 耶穌言竟、偕門徒出、越汲淪溪、有一園、入焉、 When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples.
2 賣耶穌之猶大、亦識其處、因耶穌偕門徒屢集於彼也、 And Judas also, which betrayed him, knew the place: for Jesus ofttimes resorted thither with his disciples.
3 猶大率卒一隊、與祭司諸長法利賽人之隸、以炬、以燈、以械而至、 Judas then, having received a band of men and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weapons.
4 耶穌知事將及己、出而問曰、爾誰尋耶、 Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek ye?
5 曰、拿撒勒人耶穌、耶穌曰、我是也、賣之之猶大、亦偕衆而立、 They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them.
6 耶穌一言我是、衆退卻而仆地、 As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground.
7 耶穌復問曰、爾誰尋耶、曰、拿撒勒人耶穌、 Then asked he them again, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth.
8 耶穌曰、已告爾我是矣、若尋我、則容斯衆去、 Jesus answered, I have told you that I am he: if therefore ye seek me, let these go their way:
9 是爲驗其前言云、爾予我者、未亡其一也、 That the saying might be fulfilled, which he spake, Of them which thou gavest me have I lost none.
10 西門彼得拔佩刀、擊大祭司之僕、削其右耳、僕名馬勒古、 Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and smote the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus.
11 耶穌語彼得曰、韜爾刀、父予我之杯、我不飲乎、○ Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?
12 於是隊卒與千夫長、及猶太人之隸、執耶穌繫之、 Then the band and the captain and officers of the Jews took Jesus, and bound him,
13 先曳至亞那乃是歲大祭司該亞法之妻父也、 And led him away to Annas first; for he was father in law to Caiaphas, which was the high priest that same year.
14 該亞法者、卽曾與猶太人議云、一人代民死、乃有益者也、○ Now Caiaphas was he, which gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.
15 西門彼得從耶穌、又一門徒從之、乃素爲大祭司所識者、同入大祭司院、 And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple: that disciple was known unto the high priest, and went in with Jesus into the palace of the high priest.
16 彼得立於門外、大祭司所識之門徒、出語司門之婢、引彼得入、 But Peter stood at the door without. Then went out that other disciple, which was known unto the high priest, and spake unto her that kept the door, and brought in Peter.
17 婢謂彼得曰、爾亦斯人之徒乎、曰、非也、 Then saith the damsel that kept the door unto Peter, Art not thou also one of this man’s disciples? He saith, I am not.
18 衆僕與隸、因寒熾炭、立而向火、彼得亦偕之向火、○ And the servants and officers stood there, who had made a fire of coals; for it was cold: and they warmed themselves: and Peter stood with them, and warmed himself.
19 大祭司以其門徒與訓誨詰耶穌、 The high priest then asked Jesus of his disciples, and of his doctrine.
20 耶穌曰、我明言於世、恆訓於會堂及殿、卽猶太人恆集之處、隱中則無所言、 Jesus answered him, I spake openly to the world; I ever taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, whither the Jews always resort; and in secret have I said nothing.
21 胡爲問我、可問聞於我者、我與之言何、彼皆知也、 Why askest thou me? ask them which heard me, what I have said unto them: behold, they know what I said.
22 耶穌言此、旁立一隸批之、曰、爾若是對大祭司乎、 And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers which stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so?
23 耶穌曰、我言若非、可證其非、若是、何批我耶、 Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil: but if well, why smitest thou me?
24 亞那解之至大祭司該亞法、仍繫焉、○ Now Annas had sent him bound unto Caiaphas the high priest.
25 西門彼得立而向火、或謂之曰、爾亦其徒乎、彼得弗承、曰、非也、 And Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. They said therefore unto him, Art not thou also one of his disciples? He denied it, and said, I am not.
26 有大祭司之僕、卽彼得削其耳者之戚屬、曰、我非見爾偕彼於園乎、 One of the servants of the high priest, being his kinsman whose ear Peter cut off, saith, Did not I see thee in the garden with him?
27 彼得復不承、鷄卽鳴矣、○ Peter then denied again: and immediately the cock crew.
28 平旦、衆曳耶穌、自該亞法至公廨、衆弗入、以免受汚、不得食逾越節筵也、 Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the passover.
29 彼拉多出、謂衆曰、以何事訟斯人乎、 Pilate then went out unto them, and said, What accusation bring ye against this man?
30 對曰、彼若非行惡者、我儕則不付於爾矣、 They answered and said unto him, If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up unto thee.
31 彼拉多曰、爾自取之、依爾律鞫之、猶太人曰、我儕殺人、不合於律、 Then said Pilate unto them, Take ye him, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death:
32 此乃驗耶穌所言、示其將如何而死也、○ That the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spake, signifying what death he should die.
33 彼拉多復入公廨、召耶穌語之曰、爾乃猶太人王乎、 Then Pilate entered into the judgment hall again, and called Jesus, and said unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews?
34 耶穌曰、爾此言由己歟、抑他人告爾歟、 Jesus answered him, Sayest thou this thing of thyself, or did others tell it thee of me?
35 彼拉多曰、我豈猶太人乎、爾民與祭司諸長付爾於我、爾所爲者何也、 Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thine own nation and the chief priests have delivered thee unto me: what hast thou done?
36 耶穌曰、我國非屬斯世、若然、則我之臣必戰、免我見付於猶太人、但今我國非由斯世耳、 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.
37 彼拉多曰、然則爾爲王乎、曰、爾言我爲王、我爲此而生、爲此臨世、以證眞理、屬眞理者、悉聽我言、彼拉多曰、眞理維何、○ Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.
38 言竟、復出謂猶太人曰、我不見其有何辜也、 Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all.
39 但爾有例、至逾越節爲爾釋一囚、爾欲我釋猶太人王乎、 But ye have a custom, that I should release unto you one at the passover: will ye therefore that I release unto you the King of the Jews?
40 衆復呼曰、非斯人、巴拉巴耳、巴拉巴者、盜也、 Then cried they all again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.
